Welcome I’m delighted to welcome you to our second Arts Festival, sponsored by Bilborough councillors. The idea for a whole week’s festival came two years ago when we organised an exhibition of artwork from Bilborough schools and local artists in Bilborough Library. The success of this led us to get a group of residents together to organise a week of events in July 2017.

Bilborough Library and Community Centre is our main venue for Bilborough Arts Festival (BArts2018). This is where you’ll find an exhibition of local Artists’ work and a range of ‘havea-go’ workshops throughout the week; including free family workshops from 4pm - 6pm, from Monday -Thursday. Other venues taking part can be found on the map on pp16 - 17. Bilborough Library is behind the Pelican pub on Bracebridge Drive.

Just think...

...everything we pick up and use, sit on, watch, listen to, purchase, travel in or on, live in, cook, and eat with, has had the touch of an artist, writer, designer, engineer or architect along the way. Pete Mosley

We wanted to show that ‘arts’ included such a wide range of activities that there would be something for everyone. So there was a fantastic exhibition in Bilborough library featuring paintings, drawings, photographs and sculptures by local artists. In other venues there was music – rock and jazz, drumming, dancing, clowning, creative workshops for toddlers up to over-60s, films, a craft fair, a heritage walk, Tai Chi, knitting and crochet, storytelling, a word fest and much more. We involved schools, churches, independent living schemes and lots of local residents.

This year’s festival has the theme ‘celebrating local creativity’. As you’ll see from the programme there are events for all ages from toddlers to our older residents. We’re delighted that seven schools are taking part this year as well as Hanover Court and Lincoln Court. One of our aims is to bring younger and older people together, which benefits both groups. We hope you enjoy our Festival. We’re always looking for more volunteers so please get in touch if you’d like to be involved in planning next year’s festival.
