STAINLESS STEEL WORLD AMERICAS CONFERENCE & EXHIBITION November 9th to 10th, 2016

GEORGE R. BROWN CONVENTION CENTER HOUSTON, TX, USA A word from the Chairman… It is my pleasure to be the incoming Chairman of the 2016 Stainless Steel World Americas Conference and Exhibition. The Stainless Steel World Americas Conference is an important event for people across a variety of industries including oil & gas, chemical & petrochemical and power generation to network, share knowledge and learn something new. From my professional perspective the Stainless Steel World Americas Conference is an excellent opportunity to discover the latest findings in metallurgy, joining, new materials and efficiency in the designing and fabrication of stainless projects. I have attended the conference several times in the past, and have always found it to be a great learning and networking experience. In our present society there is a constant demand for more and more energy, which has caused the operational and producing companies to move into more difficult surroundings in order to search for oil and gas. For example, surroundings with high corrosion factors, extreme temperatures (either cold or high) and lower depths. This move to increasingly demanding environments highlights the need for stainless steels and corrosion resistant alloys that can withstand these severe applications. This is why it is more important than ever to bring together the community of end-users, EPCs, consultants and metal manufacturers and fabricators to discuss and learn about the latest news regarding material selection and development. Along with the 2016 Stainless Steel World Americas Steering Committee, I look forward to presenting you with an informative yet practical conference program that will challenge you to learn more about the importance of stainless steels and corrosion resistant alloys. I am looking forward to a fantastic conference and I am honored to have the opportunity to serve as your Chairman. See you at the 2016 Stainless Steel World Americas Conference and Exhibition! Sincerely, Fred Schweighardt, International Expert, Air Liquide Chairman of the 2016 Stainless Steel World Americas Conference

STAINLESS STEEL WORLD AMERICAS CONFERENCE & EXHIBITION November 9th to 10th, 2016

GEORGE R. BROWN CONVENTION CENTER HOUSTON, TX, USA

Be part of the 2016 Stainless Steel World Americas Conference!

The 2016 Stainless Steel World Americas Conference Steering Committee encourages presentations to be made at the event on a wide variety of topics related to stainless steels and other corrosion resistant alloys (CRAs). Experts from all aspects of the manufacture, specification and application of stainless steels and CRAs are invited to submit an abstract for either a paper or a detailed presentation that the Chairman and Steering Committee Members will review and consider for acceptance.

Present a paper or presentation

Stainless steel and corrosion resistant alloy experts are invited to submit an abstract for either a formal paper or a detailed PowerPoint presentation that they would like to present during the conference. Speakers will be allocated approximately 25 minutes (this includes five minutes for questions) for their presentations. Moderators will ensure speakers keep to their allocated time and direct questions to the speaker. If you would like to present a paper or presentation during the conference, you must submit your 300-500 word abstract outlining the topic and material to Candace Allison ([email protected]) by May 31st, 2016 Your submission will be reviewed by the Chairman and Steering Committee and you will receive an email confirmation by June 30th, 2016 if it has been accepted.

Discussion-based workshops

If you would feel more comfortable being part of a group for your presentation, you could join a panel of experts in one of our discussion-based workshops. (Each workshop will be centered around one theme or topic.) If you’ve attended one of the previous Stainless Steel World Americas Conferences, you know that discussions and the free exchange of ideas and experiences are an integral part of the conference experience. Participants are strongly encouraged to bring their ideas, experiences and stainless steel or CRA-related questions to the panel of industry experts. While panelists are not required to prepare a full formal paper, you must submit a 300-500 word abstract outlining the material you would like to cover during your portion of the workshop to Candace Allison ([email protected]) by May 31st, 2016. The abstract will be reviewed by the Chairman and Steering Committee and you will receive an email confirmation by June 30th, 2016 if it has been accepted.

Plenary presentation

Plenary presentations are generally technical presentations covering practical applications of stainless steel/CRAs or addressing overall issues that affect the industry. End-users are particularly encouraged to come forward to give plenary presentations. If you are interested in presenting a plenary presentation during the 2016 Stainless Steel World Americas Conference, please submit your 300-500 word abstract/outline of your presentation to Candace Allison ([email protected]) by May 31st, 2016. Your outline will then be reviewed by the Chairman and Steering Committee and you will receive an email confirmation by June 30th, 2016 if it has been accepted.

Dates to Remember Abstract submission deadline: May 31st, 2016 Notification of acceptance: June 30th, 2016 Deadline for final papers or PowerPoint presentations: September 9th, 2016

GEORGE R. BROWN CONVENTION CENTER HOUSTON, TX, USA

Helpful hints for a fantastic PowerPoint presentation Minimize the number slides This helps present a clear message and keeps your audience attentive and interested.

Choose an appropriate font style and size It’s important to ensure your audience can read the text from a distance. Select an easy-to-read font style such as Helvetica or Arial. Also, using dark text on a light background works best.

Keep your text simple Use bullet points or short sentences and try to keep each to one line. This way your audience will listen to your presentation rather than read your PowerPoint slide. Think of your slides as reinforcing what you are saying.

Have a hook Just like your English high school teacher always said, the best writing, and in this case, the best presentations, catch their audiences’ attention early and reel them in. Open your presentation with something surprising or intriguing that will get your audience to sit up and take notice.

Write a script The purpose of your slides is to illustrate and expand what you are going to say. It’s always a good idea to write out, or at least prepare an outline, of your presentation before putting together your slides.

Face your audience Ensure that you aren’t standing with your back to your audience and reading directly from the screen. If you do, your audience may become bored and stop listening to what you are trying to say.

Ask questions Questions are a good way of arousing interest, piquing curiosity and engaging audiences. Build tension by asking a question and letting your audience think about it for a minute, before you move onto your next slide (which will probably contain the answer). Engage in a little question-and-answer with your audience with you asking the questions. Interaction is key to a great presentation!

Possible presentation topics The 2016 Stainless Steel World Americas Conference aims to cover a wide variety of applications for the specification, manufacturer and use of stainless steels and CRAs.
