John DiBlasi, former Justice, New York State Supreme Court, holds an AV Preeminent peer rating from MartindaleHubbell in the fields of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) and Litigation - a distinction given to those who possess the highest ethical standards and professional ability. Welcome to The 2010 New York Law Journal Rankings Dear Law Journal Community, Welcome to the First Annual New York Law Journal Rankings, a new program, designed to let you, the New York legal community, tell us which vendors are the best to work with. We want to know which products and services are most helpful in grappling with your daily challenges. Whether its preparing for a trial, running your firm or managing your money, the vendors listed in this report are the companies who you told us were the best. In some cases firms set themselves apart by producing a great product, while in others, it was superior customer service that helped them win the day. The Rankings are not a scientific survey of the marketplace but rather purely democratic. We asked you to vote for your favorites – and did you ever. With over 2,000 votes, the response exceeded our expectations. The voting was conducted via online ballot, compiled by the sales and marketing teams of the New York Law Journal. Readers were notified of the ballot through direct emails and online advertisements linking to the ballot across ALM’s network of websites. The ballot consisted of 42 categories encompassing the areas of Technology, Research, Accounting, Insurance, Financial Services, Litigation Support, Education Recruiting and Staffing. In total, over 350 firms were listed on the official online ballot and voters were also given the option of writing in any firms not see listed; almost 400 firms received votes via the write-in option. Ultimately, our goal was to make the voting as inclusive as possible. For the most part we succeeded, however a few rookie mistakes did occur. In the Best Court Reporting & Deposition Service category we missed Veritext LLC who you wrote-in in such large numbers that they were able to rank in the Top Three – a definite oversight on our part. In the Best ADR category we had a significant error in that a major player in the space, National Arbitration and Mediation (NAM) was left off the ballot. This was not discovered until less than two weeks prior to the close of voting. The good folks at NAM graciously accepted our offer to include them at that late date, but unfortunately, because of our mistake, there is no way of knowing what could have been. In a condensed period they finished an impressive second place, I would like to note that the Individual Mediator category did not include a simple online ballot, but rather, all candidates relied on write-in votes. In that category, NAM mediators accounted for five of the Top Ten slots as voted by you. Impressive indeed. We therefore congratulate JAMS on their impressive win for Best ADR and we also salute NAM for their overwhelming success in the Individual Mediator category. Given that you voted in the ADR categories more than any other we know how important these firms are to your success and we look forward to an even more inclusive ballot next year. Please note that we only allowed legitimate end users to vote. We took great pains to ensure the voting was fair. Any nonattorney or legal professionals (or anyone who we could not validate was a legitimate end user) vote was disqualified. Thank you for sharing your voice and your votes. Your opinions are reflected on the pages that follow. If you do not see your favorite firm there this year please make sure to vote next year.
