We might consider them the most
basic of blessings: having clean clothes and food on our tables, living in a safe place with heat and water, sending our children to school, sharing time with loved ones, and worshipping our Savior, Jesus Christ, without fear. But there are some…there are children…without these blessings. These children are orphans in Mali, cared for by a sweet woman known as “Bibi.” Often, Bibi sleeps only a few hours each night because so many children need her attention. She is a Christian—but in her own family and throughout Mali, she is in the minority. More than 95% of this struggling African country is Muslim.

Redeemer’s members first met Bibi when she visited Sioux City in Summer 2013. We heard of political unrest and violence tearing her country apart—often leading mothers to leave their children on the orphanage doorsteps in hopes of a better life for these innocent youth. We learned of Bibi’s orphans and their needs…and we wanted to help.

Redeemer has forged a connection with Bibi’s orphanage in Mali. Today we want to provide these children with the most basic of blessings: food, shelter, clothing, and education. In doing so, we are sharing the Good News of Jesus and giving them what they need most of all: HOPE.
