You want someone who has a track record for spiritual growth. Someone who has walked the road before. A Coach: coming along side of you and encouraging you. Paul, someone whose life is worth imitating, 1 Thess 2:11, exhort, urge comfort and care, who is further down the road. A Friend: Philippians 2:22, Apahroditus (peer) lock arms with and count on them. Prov 27:17 Someone to sharpen us and vice versa. A Disciple: someone we are pouring into. Like Paul did with Timothy (Phill 2:22) Key thoughts on Accountability: It’s not about a ritual, it’s about a relationship. Not about them giving us a check list. Accountability is not about legalism. In scripture it’s a relationship not a ritual, it’s about my relationship with Jesus Christ. 2 Timothy 2:2- we take what we know (the gospel, the truth). Teaching it to others (who are faithful) and them sharing it with someone else. Reproducing reproducers. It starts with a relationship with God and then we export it to others.
