Holiday details During the first part of the trip, we will discover the hidden corners of the province of Granada. Our accommodation we will be in the town of Huétor Tájar, in the comfortable Hotel Cortijo de Tájar. Huétor Tájar is the second home of our guide, so he knows where to find the birds in the rich farmland that surrounds the town. At this time of year, we should find wintering flocks of Stone Curlews, sometimes 400 strong! Besides, there are Little Bustard, Azure-winged Magpie and Bluethroat. The following day we shall be taken by 4x4 to the surrounding mountains where we expect to find Ring Ouzels, Alpine Accentor, Red-billed Chough, Black Wheatear and with a bit of luck even raptors such Griffon’s, Golden Eagle and Bonelli’s Eagles among other species. The following day should we spent birding in Málaga before reaching Doñana National Park in the evening. Some of our targets for today will be 10’s of Common Cranes, Black-winged Kite, Hen Harrier and 100’s of Greater Flamingos.

The following days we will explore the world-famous Doñana National Park. This extraordinary reserve of 108,086 ha is considered one of the most important bird sanctuaries of all Europe. It holds millions of wintering birds and we will be there to see them! Our accommodation in Doñana will be the hospitable Hotel Toruño in the stunning and quaint village of El Rocio. Walking around El Rocio is like being back in Spain in the 1960’s, there are nearly more horses than cars! We will spend two days visiting different habitats on search of Black Storks, Spanish Imperial Eagle, Vultures, Owls, Waders and a reach variety of bird life. On the day before departure, we shall visit Odiel Marshes, a tidal mudflat where we will hope to add gulls such as Audouin’s gull and a large variety of waders. Join us in this unforgettable birding trip!
