FACULTY
SCHOLARSHIP
 
 
 PURPOSE:

 This
award
is
offered
to
enhance
the
quality
of
the
academic
and
intellectual
experience
of
Faculty
Scholars
 by
encouraging
enrichment
opportunities
such
as
research,
independent
study,
career‐related
internship,
 and
service
learning
or
community
engagement.


 


AWARD:

 Bowdoin
College
will
award
$3,000
to
Faculty
Scholars
to
help
fund
enrichment
opportunities
during
the
 course
of
their
tenure
in
the
College.
The
stipend
may
also
be
used
to
pay
expenses
and/or
cover
foregone earnings
during
the
experience.
The
stipend
can
be
used
at
any
time
between
first
year
matriculation
and
 graduation
if
the
student
is
enrolled
and
in
“good
standing.”
Students
receiving
financial
aid
may
request
a
 waiver
of
the
summer
earnings
expectation
for
one
summer
if
they
are
pursuing
an
enrichment
project.
 Enrichment
opportunities
cannot
receive
Bowdoin
credit.
 


REQUIREMENTS: The enrichment proposals and stipend request must be made in writing to the program administrator, Elizabeth H Palmer. Students may apply to draw from their stipend at different periods during their tenure. The total support may not exceed $3,000, and must include the following documents: 1. Proposal:
The
proposal
will
contain
explicit
information
about
how
this
academic
and
intellectual
 experience
will
enhance
the
student’s
educational
goals
at
Bowdoin
College.

 



 


2. Budget:
Provide
an
itemized
budget
that
explains
how
the
funds
will
be
utilized
to
enhance
the
 educational
experience.
Travel
expenses
may
be
included.


PROCESS:
 


1. Payment:
The
funds
will
be
disbursed
in
one
installment.
The
check
can
be
in
the
form
of
a
direct
 deposit
or
mailed
directly
to
an
address
provided
by
the
Faculty
Scholar.
Please
indicate
whether
 the
check
will
be
direct
deposited
or
sent
by
mail.
 






2. Deadline:
Proposals
must
be
submitted
to
the
Office
of
Special
Academic
Programs
for
approval
at
 least
six
weeks
before
the
start
date
of
the
experience.
 3. Approval:
The
Office
of
Special
Academic
Programs
must
approve
each
Faculty
Scholar’s
proposal
 prior
to
embarking
on
the
educational
experience.



Reflection
Essay:
At
the
completion
of
the
project
all
Faculty
Scholars
are
required
to
write
a
one‐page
 reflection
essay
about
their
experience.
