This year we are delighted to offer package tours with Cork City Gaol and Lifetime lab.
Introduction We offer children a unique school tour experience
introducing children to different activities delivered in a fun and stimulating manner by our enthusiastic staff. We carefully research activities and source equipment offering inclusivity for all abilities and tailor activities to cater for the developmental needs of the group with an emphasis on fun and involvement for all.

Our programme consists of age appropriate inclusive activities for all classes and a schedule specially designed to suit Infants, Junior and Senior class. We aim to provide a comprehensive tour experience which will be enjoyable for all participants. Please Note: Tours are extremely limited for Week 1: 8th - 12th May 2017

At the Mardyke we understand that this may be some children’s first tour and as such a big adventure for all involved. We offer a friendly and welcoming environment with staff that have experience in working with younger children. All the activities available to the infant groups are chosen to stimulate the children in a positive way and help develop key movement skills while maintaining high levels of fun and enjoyment throughout the experience.
Children who experience our junior tour program experience a program which is focused on involvement and fun for all rather than competition. The aim of the program is to promote fun and enjoyment for all participants and this is done by primarily adopting a games based approach to all activities. Leaders promote involvement for all children in the games through a variety of methods such as ensuring all participants have a role to fulfil in the activity even if they do not wish to play an active role in the game.
Our mission for all our tours is to provide students a positive and memorable experience of their visit to the Mardyke Arena. This particularly relevant to this age group as many students it maybe their last school tour with their class mates. As a result of the emphasis for this age category is still fun and enjoyment for all and the ethos of participation for all is built upon in this age category also. A games based approach is adopted for all activities in this tour category with the emphasis being placed on fun and enjoyment.

Junior and Senior Infants
All activities will last 25-35 minutes in duration with a ‘double class’ of 1 hour allocated to Swimming. This will ensure adequate changing and play time in the pool.
Structure of the day
Infants will get a 15 minute break during a 3 hour tour and a second 20 minute break during a 4/5 hour tour.
1st - 3rd class
Arrival in the Arena
Classes are advised to arrive in the Arena at least 15 minutes before the scheduled tour start. We advise teachers to carefully plan their departure from the school to co-ordinate with this request. Schools that arrive late for a tour may miss their first activity as we cannot amend the daily schedule or extend the tour times. A staff member will meet and greet the tour at the main gates and escort the children and teachers to their assembly in the Mardyke Arena. Classes will then be split into smaller groups in specific group sizes as per the schedule of activities. In order to accelerate this process we appreciate if teachers could divide the groups in advance of arrival or alternatively provide assistance to our staff on the day of the tour. Staff will note attendance and update the medical log for each group. A staff member will address the groups and outline some important policies before the commencement of the activities.

Lunch Breaks
3 Hour Tours - Infants, Junior and Senior classes are allocated a 15 minute break mid way through the tour programme. 4/5 Hour Tours - Infants, juniors and seniors have mid-morning 15 minute break and an afternoon 20 minute. Teachers may request additional break for infants when completing the booking form and prior to receipt of tour schedule. Teachers are required to supervise their classes during break times. Please note we can’t accommodate a break at the end of the booked school tour slot.

Café Atrium is situated in the foyer of the Mardyke Arena UCC, they offer a special packed lunch deal to all visiting school children for €5. Contact the Café at
