PETERSBURG WILL BE CONSECRATED TO THE IMMACULATE HEART OF MARY ON MAY 6TH In an effort to lead all people closer to the Heart of Jesus, Bishop Gregory Parkes has announced that he will consecrate the parishes, schools, charities, ministries and all people who live in the five counties of the Diocese to the Immaculate Heart of Mary on May 6. There are many ways for the faithful to prepare for and participate in this celebration that is part of our 50th Anniversary Jubilee. PETERSBURG As a continuation of the listening sessions that Bishop Gregory Parkes conducted in 2017, he is currently working with a team to develop a mutually shared vision for the Diocese of St. Petersburg. The team is taking into account feedback that has been received from parishioners, staff, priests and religious, as well as insights from the National Convocation of Catholic Leaders that focused on missionary discipleship and the vision of Pope Francis shared in “The Joy of the Gospel.” The Catholic Leadership Institute is facilitating the process to develop a vision, which is expected to be completed by this summer. Also, scientific research on the brain reveals exposure to pornography has long-term, harmful effects through abuse, broken families and damaged relationships. SAFE ENVIRONMENT POLICY – REVISION – FEBRUARY 2018 Bishop Parkes has granted approval to a further revision to the updated Policy for the Protection of Children and Vulnerable Adults for the Diocese of St. Petersburg, which was previously approved on January 5, 2018. In order to provide clarity regarding lay presenters providing ministry in our diocese for 30 days or less, minor changes have been made to the next-to-final paragraph in Section J of the policy.
