THE PURPOSE OF FAITH LUTHERAN CHURCH In the power, guidance, and strength of the Holy Spirit, we seek God’s presence in worship to open our hearts and minds that He may be glorified and we may be empowered to love and serve all people, that souls may be won for Jesus Christ.

The Twenty-Third Sunday after Pentecost

November 12, 2017

Prayer upon Entering Church: God of love, through Your Son You have commanded us to love one another. By the guidance of Your Word and Spirit, deliver us from impenitence and teach us the truth that we might confess our sins, receive Your forgiveness, and be reconciled to one another; through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen. T Guests: We welcome you in the name of our Savior and invite you to worship with us regularly. If you do not have a church home, why not make ours yours? If you have a spiritual concern, or would like to know more about our church, please consult with Pastor Winterstein. Holy Communion: The practice of the Lutheran church is to receive Holy Communion with members of churches with whom we are in fellowship. If you are not a member of The Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod, The Lutheran Church-Canada, or The American Association of Lutheran Churches, please speak to the pastor before communing. If you have not been baptized and instructed in what we teach and confess, you are welcome to come forward for a blessing. You may indicate this by crossing your arms over your chest. The individual cups in the middle of the trays contain grape juice with a minimal amount of wine in them. If you have questions or concerns about receiving the Sacrament of the Altar here at Faith, please speak to Pr. Winterstein. Parish Nurse: Carol Trunzo is available by appointment at 509 393-9938 or [email protected]. Nursery: We encourage all children to be in worship, but, at times, for you and those around you, you may consider using our nursery for your children age 3 and younger. We have helpers for our nursery so that you are able to stay and worship. Prayer Requests: We encourage everyone to fill out the prayer cards located in the pew racks for any prayer request that you may have. Please hand the cards to the ushers at the time of the offering. The Rite of Friendship: There is a red vinyl pad on the aisle side of the pew. During the offering please record your first and last name and, if you are a guest, please put your mailing address. This information helps us with ministering to the needs of guests and members. Members, please record address and phone number changes, as well as your current email address, if you would like to receive a weekly update from the church. visit our website at www.faithlutheranwen.com

The Twenty-Third Sunday after Pentecost Prelude Children’s Sermon Opening Hymn

“God's Word Is Our Great Heritage”

LSB 582

At each T, one may make the sign of the cross in remembrance of their Baptism. At each  one may bow in reverence.

P C P P C P C

In the name of the Father and of the T Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. Beloved in the Lord! Let us draw near with a true heart and confess our sins unto God our Father, beseeching Him in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to grant us forgiveness. Our help is in the name of the Lord, who made heaven and earth. I said, I will confess my transgressions unto the Lord, and You forgave the iniquity of my sin. 1

Silence for reflection on God's Word and for self-examination.

O almighty God, merciful Father, I, a poor, miserable sinner, confess unto You all my sins and iniquities with which I have ever offended You and justly deserved Your temporal and eternal punishment. But I am heartily sorry for them and sincerely repent of them, and I pray You of Your boundless mercy and for the sake of the holy, innocent, bitter sufferings and death of Your beloved Son, Jesus Christ, to be gracious and merciful to me, a poor, sinful being. Upon this your confession, I, by virtue of my office, as a called and ordained servant of the Word, announce the grace of God unto all of you, and in the stead and by the command of my Lord Jesus Christ I forgive you all your sins in the name of the Father and of the T Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Psalm 84:1, 9–12; antiphon: Psalm 84:3 Even the sparrow finds a home, and the swallow a nest for herself, where she may lay her young, at your altars, O Lord of hosts, my King and my God. How lovely is your dwelling place, O Lord of hosts! Behold our shield, O God; look on the face of your anointed! For a day in your courts is better than a thousand elsewhere. I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of wickedness. For the Lord God is a sun and shield; the Lord bestows favor and honor. No good thing does he withhold from those who walk uprightly. O Lord of hosts, blessèd is the one who trusts in you!  Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit; as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be forever. Amen. Even the sparrow finds a home, and the swallow a nest for herself, where she may lay her young, at your altars, O Lord of hosts, my King and my God.

Nicene Creed C

I believe in one God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth and of all things visible and invisible. And in one Lord  Jesus Christ, the only-begotten Son of God, begotten of His Father before all worlds, God of God, Light of Light, very God of very God, begotten, not made, being of one substance with the Father, by whom all things were made; who for us men and for our salvation came down from heaven  and was incarnate by the Holy Spirit of the virgin Mary and was made man; and was crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate. He suffered and was buried. And the third day He rose again according to the Scriptures and ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of the Father. And He will come again with glory to judge both the living and the dead, whose kingdom will have no end. And I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord and giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son together is  worshiped and glorified, who spoke by the prophets. And I believe in one holy Christian and apostolic Church, I acknowledge one Baptism for the remission of sins, and I look for the resurrection of the dead and the life T of the world to come. Amen.

Lord's Prayer C

Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven; give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us T from evil. For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen.

The Words of Our Lord P

P

Our Lord Jesus Christ, on the night when He was betrayed, took bread, and when He had given thanks, He broke it and gave it to the disciples and said: “Take, eat; this is My T body, which is given for you. This do in remembrance of Me.” In the same way also He took the cup after supper, and when He had given thanks, He gave it to them, saying: “Drink of it, all of you; this cup is the new testament in My T blood, which is shed for you for the forgiveness of sins. This do, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me.”

Pax Domini P C

The peace of the Lord be with you always. Amen.

FAITH’S FOOD CUPBOARD What is Faith’s Food Cupboard?  An outreach ministry to those in urgent need of food  Hosted by the Evangelism Board  Coordinator: Carol Trunzo As we continue this ministry, we need to stock the food cupboard. We make food bags for each family that contains the same food items for each household. This helps to keep our food cupboard stocked in a balanced manner with each food item. If you are interested in helping with this ministry, we are asking for donations in the following way:  A family or families can go together to prepare a food bag and drop it off in the Food Cupboard by the kitchen. Each food bag costs approximately $20 - $25 to purchase, depending on where you shop.  If you prefer to donate money, then our Food Cupboard Coordinator will purchase the items for each bag. Each time an individual comes to Faith’s Food Cupboard (up to two visits per month), a bag with all of the food items will be given to them. On the other side is a list of the items needed for each bag. We have brown bags with the church address and information to distribute the food items. If you would like to know more about this ministry, there is a Food Cupboard Ministry brochure in the Old Narthex, or talk to the Food Cupboard Coordinator.
