SEO NINJA CHEATSHEET Choosing A Domain Name Google goes through phases of loving then hating exact match domains (EMDs) where the primary money term is contained exactly in the domain name. Even at the best of times, EMDs expose you to over optimization penalties. It’s highly recommended that you choose an LSI (thematically related term) that does not contain the exact form of your primary money term as the seed for your domain name. SEO Ninja Secret Trick: - use the “Jimmy Kelley’s Domain Name Finder” filter in Network Empire’s Killer Keyword Tool to easily spot perfect domain names that match this criteria.

On-Site 2. The Semantic Web Structured data markup (aka schema markup) for your site content is becoming a more important factor in ranking every month. A complete reference for the current markup for your site can be found on schema.org with local business markup information to be found here. Also you can test your markup using this tool. SEO Ninja Secret Trick: Two easy things you can do to implement schema right now: breadcrumbs and business mark up both contained in the Video Silo Plugin from Network Empire.

SEO NINJA CHEATSHEET On-Site Continued 2b. Duplicate Content Duplicate content onsite is a ranking killer. It needs to be avoided at all cost. For wordpress, noindex the tag and author/member pages to help avoid the duplicate content issue. This can be done with a plugin like yoast-seo. If you suspect duplicate content issues on your site, or of you are having problems getting onto page 1 of google serps, run a screaming frog report and check the hash column to know for sure. Content on your site that is duplicated on other sites is not a problem so long as it doesn’t exceed more than about 5% of your total site content. If all of your content is generated from product feeds which are used by many sites, the sites with the strongest link profile tend to get indexed and the weaker ones do not. To check if someone has copied your entire site (it happens) use copyscape.

2c. On Page Meta Title This must be a title, not just a keyword. It MUST contain the exact primary keyword if it’s not in the URL; otherwise us an LSI (synonym) of the primary keyword. SEO Ninja Secret Trick: use the “Jimmy’s Supporting Keywords” filter in Network Empire’s Killer Keyword Tool to easily spot perfect keywords that match this criteria. SEO NINJA CHEATSHEET 2c. On Page - Continued H1 Tag The title of your page usually contains a variation of your primary keyword (different word order) – MUST be unique for each page SEO Ninja Secret Trick: Use screaming frog on existing sites that are having ranking problems to make sure the H1 tags are all unique.

Targeting Multiple Keywords Per Page Rather than have just one keyword that you are targeting on a page, it’s ideal to have a handful of related terms. These terms, taken together, should indicate the story you are telling on the page. It’s important to use a couple of terms that are specific to the topic of the page and infrequently used in other markets - we call these Statistically Improbable Phrases (SIPs). Use these terms to add diversity to your inbound link anchor text portfolio, when link building. SEO Ninja Secret Trick: - use the “Highly Relevant” or “Golden Niches” AND the “Statistically Improbable Phrase (SIP) filter in Network Empire’s Killer Keyword Tool™ to easily spot related keywords that match this criteria.

SEO NINJA CHEATSHEET 3. Inbound Links Profile The key to avoiding Google penalties (especially Penguin) is a natural looking link profile. ●

And a site with a too many links from any one source (even guest posts) isn't natural.

A site that builds links too fast isn't natural

contextual link has 5-10x more ranking power than the author bio link.

Link Relevancy One of Google’s top concerns today is Linking Domain Relevancy (LDR). LDR simply means: “Is a site that links to you in a similar niche?” NO-FOLLOW Anchor Text Caution: Google has in the past redefined how it interprets no-follow links, however … At this time google gives a reasonable degree of importance for no-follow links, while not using them to assess penalties. And you can use this to your advantage, using them to create links that have an exact anchor text of all of the target keywords for a page. DO FOLLOW Anchor Text Diversity You already know that diversifying your anchor text is a must. Remember to use all of the keywords that you targeted for a specific page, but also vary the keyword order and use LSIs for each term.

SEO NINJA CHEATSHEET Anchor Text Link Diversity A real link profile has a large diversity of inbound link anchor texts. There’s no magic anchor test ratio, but the following should give you an idea of what your anchor text distribution should include:

Branded This tends to be the majority, where the anchor text is the brand - caution has to be used if the money term is in the domain name ●

SEO NINJA CHEATSHEET Anchor Text Link Diversity - Continued Money keyword These anchor texts should be few and far between, you need at least one, preferably one of the strongest link you are going to build, but most of the links that make up this segment should be a variety of the following: long tails variations of the original terms; plurals, with prefix and suffixes, different forms of the words thematically related (LSIs) versions of the money term SEO Ninja Secret Trick: use the “Jimmy’s Supporting Keywords” filter in Network Empire’s Killer Keyword Tool to easily spot perfect keywords that match this criteria.

4. Sitemaps It’s important to submit a sitemap to google and bing to get it indexed. A sitemap file must be smaller than 50MB in size and < 50k URLS For many reasons I prefer to submit the sitemap to Google via webmaster tools - it allows me to check back and see when it got spidered and see how many pages were read vs. indexed. You can submit your sitemap to Bing here. SEO Ninja Secret Trick: Screaming frog can create a sitemap with nested maps where needed: https://www.screamingfrog.co.uk/xml-sitemap-generator/ SEO Ninja Cheatsheet Copyright © 2016 Network Empire LLC, All Rights Reserved www.networkempire.com
