Building Hours
Membership includes use of all recreation facilities during scheduled hours, participation in instructional, intramural, or club programs at reduced rates, rental of equipment from the Outdoor Recreation Resource Centre and eligibility to purchase Fitness/Weight Centre membership, as well as free admission to regular season home varsity games.
In most cases, your Athletics & Recreation fees were included in your tuition fee payment. Please check your fee statement.

REFUND POLICIES There are no refunds for any course/program/league unless canceled by Vikes Recreation. Consideration will be given to those providing a medical certificate or academic certificate indicating timetable changes. All refunds are subject to a $10 administration fee. All refund requests must be received within 30 days of date of purchase. Credits on account are good for one year from date issued. A $25 fee will be charged for NSF cheques.
Recreation membership is required for students to access the Athletics and Recreation facilities. Your validated student card is your membership. If recreation fees were not charged with your tuition fees, you may purchase your membership directly from Vikes Recreation.
LEISURE ASSISTANT PASS Athletics and Recreation works cooperatively with Recreation Integration Victoria to facilitate active lifestyles for people with disabilities. The Leisure Assistant Pass provides free access to a person accompanying a student with disabilities as a oneon-one assistant. Please call Recreation Integration Victoria at (250) 477–6314 to arrange for a pass.

The Outdoor Recreation Resource Centre (ORRC) is a Vikes Recreation service that provides camping and outdoor recreation equipment rentals to Vikes Recreation members. WHERE CARSA equipment desk Camping equipment is only available to members. RENTAL PROCESS To rent equipment from ORRC, you can either call and reserve equipment or visit us during office hours. A rental contract will be filled out by you and the ORRC staff member. A credit card number will be required in case of loss or damage to the equipment. EQUIPMENT LENDING
Court booking privileges are available starting the day before. Courts available after that time may be booked on a first-come first-served basis.
With a valid membership card, individuals may check out a variety of equipment. Equipment must be returned the same day before closing or a late fee will be assessed. Full replacement cost will be assessed for items lost, stolen or damaged. Equipment available for checkout includes: basketballs, volleyballs and soccer balls.

This orientation has been developed for youth ages 14-15 wishing to access the Fitness Weight Centre.
Each day we are exposed to toxins through the foods we eat, air we breathe, even thoughts and emotions, when negative or repressed, can be as unhealthy as a poor diet or sedentary lifestyle.
This orientation is designed to teach you how to use the equipment safely and effectively, along with providing you the Fitness Weight Centre guidelines and proper etiquette. You will be given a tour of the facility, and an overview of the equipment and services available. We will ensure that you have the knowledge and skills required to use the Fitness Weight Centre. Upon completion of this 2-hour orientation, participants ages 1415 will be permitted access to the Fitness Weight Centre without parental supervision. Without completion of this orientation, participants ages 14-15 will not gain access to the FWC.
This 2 hour all levels workshop will explore the use of breath, and postures to actively stimulate the vital organs, like the liver and kidneys. This intentional practice will increase blood and lymphatic flow, and eliminates toxic build up in the digestive tract. Through breath work, deep twists, and compression we will work to create space in the body, the breath and the mind. Be prepared to sweat!

“GETTING STARTED” PROGRAM PACKAGE (4 HOURS) This program is suited for those learning or reviewing the skills and techniques in any fitness program. Your personal trainer will work with you to outline a fitness program suited to your individual needs and will put this plan into action. You will learn safe and effective techniques over a few sessions to help promote the learning process. “ACHIEVING SUCCESS” PROGRAM PACKAGE (6 HOURS) It has been suggested that approximately 60% of people starting a new exercise regime will drop out after six months. Don’t let this happen to you! This package is suited for those who are challenged by making fitness a life long habit. You will not only receive a detailed program suited for your needs, you will learn strategies that may help you create a permanent lifestyle change. HEALTH & NUTRITION SERVICES Danielle Van Schaick, BASc, Registered Dietitian Danielle is a private practice dietitian with a strong background in health, nutrition and fitness. She holds an Applied Human Nutrition Degree from the University of Guelph and successfully completed a Dietetic Internship with Vancouver Island Health Authority (VIHA). Registered as a Dietitian (RD), Danielle has studied the human body and is considered one of Canada’s leading experts in food and nutrition. She offers one-on-one nutrition counseling to individuals, families, and groups. Danielle is a Certified Fitness Trainer through the internationally recognized American Council on Exercise (ACE), and an active member of Dietitians of Canada and the College of Dietitians of British Columbia. SERVICES In this one-hour nutrition counseling session, we will review your current diet and give specific recommendations on how to meet your health goals. We specialize in weight loss, sports nutrition, specific diets (vegetarian, food allergies, gluten-free, etc) and various medical conditions. Member 1 hour for $51 | Non-Member 1 hour for $62 Please visit the CARSA Membership Services desk to pay for this service, Monday through Friday, 8:30am – 4:30pm with a lunch closure between 12:00-1:00pm. Intramurals provide the opportunity to participate in team and individual activities through a variety of leagues and tournaments. The program is operated by Vikes Recreation student employees whose intent is to provide activity opportunities and enjoyment to their fellow students. All students are encouraged to participate in intramural activities. Participants have the opportunity to create their own team of friends, classmates, etc. If you do not have enough players to create a team, register as an individual and we will place you on a team. Register early as most leagues fill before the deadline date!
SKILL LEVELS AND TIERING SYSTEM
Competition is divided into divisions: true seed, open, coed, men and women. The Intramural Activities Program offers two skill levels of competition: competitive and recreational. Each player or team is encouraged to consider the level that best suits their ability.

PARTICIPATION FEES AND REFUNDS
A playing fee is required to register for all intramural activities and must be paid at the time the registration is made. There are no refunds for any course/program/ league unless cancelled by Vikes Recreation. Consideration will be given to those providing a medical certificate or academic certificate indicating timetable changes. All refunds are subject to a $10 administration fee. All refund requests must be received within 30 days of date of purchase. Credits on account are good for one year from date issued. A $25 fee will be charged for NSF cheques. Failure to field a team, show up, failure of opponents to show up; or otherwise dropping out of the league are not acceptable reasons for a refund.

Vikes Nation Basketball presents a 3-day specialized program with a focus on shooting and court competition. Instruction will educate players on the proper mechanics of shooting, one of the most important skills in basketball. The first half of the session will focus on solid shooting habits while the second half will include a heavy dose of competitive drills such as how to play 1 vs 1, 2 vs 2, 3 vs 3, and odd man transition breaks and rushes. Introduces the skills of the three competitive strokes as well as the beginnings of turns and dives. Swimmers will become proficient kickers and efficient movement through the water. Prerequisite: Lightning Fast 2 or Red Cross Swim Kids 4.

ADULT INTERMEDIATE Develop the basics of front crawl and back crawl including breathing techniques for front crawl. Gain comfort with deep water skills like diving.

Wear swim suit or workout clothes in a similar fabric (light colour, non-cotton is best).
