Duty Station: Cairo, Egypt Type of contract: Internship Title: Communications Intern -‐ Innovation for Development Project Languages required: English and Arabic Starting Date: April 2016 Duration of the assignment: 3 months 1. Background: The United Nations Development Programme, Innovation for Development Team (I4D) is working to provide innovative solutions to development challenges with the aim of supporting youth and empowering local communities. The Innovation for Development Team has launched an Innovation Lab in 2014 which implements various initiatives and projects mainly focused on social innovation and entrepreneurship. The Innovation for Development Lab utilizes innovative approaches to development such as human centered design, innovation camps, games for social change, the use of big data and open data in addition to foresighting. Furthermore, several other programmes target illiteracy eradication, e-‐health and socio-‐ economic empowerment of women in rural areas and people with disabilities in Egypt. We continuously work with various actors ranging from public and private sector, civil society organizations and citizens. Under the guidance and direct supervision of Innovation for Development Team, particularly the Digital Communications and Design Specialist, an Intern will support the implementation of the team’s online and offline communications and advocacy strategies. The Innovation for Development Team is looking for an enthusiastic and motivated intern to support with communications mainly for the “Information and Communication Technology for Comprehensive Community Development” project.
2. Scope of Work and Tasks: The intern will specifically undertake the following tasks: • • • • •
Logistical support to the organization of visibility/outreach events, campaigns and promotional opportunities. Collection of information and preparation of content for social media in Arabic and English Design visual content for the project’s website, social media accounts and offline activities Contribute in Arabic-‐English as well as English-‐Arabic translation of relevant documents as requested Draft articles, press releases and blogs to capture the work of the I4D projects, identify target audiences and develop and implement strategies for engaging them
Perform other duties as they arise 3. Competences: • Excellent command of Arabic and English • Excellent translation skills; both Arabic-‐English and English-‐Arabic • Excellent organizational; time management; interpersonal skills • Excellent writing and communications skills • Familiarity with Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and Indesign • Previous experience in the marketing and/or communications field or with marketing campaigns would be an asset •

Qualifications: Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communications or Design, or any related field Enrollment in a Masters Program would be an asset Fluency in written and spoken English as well as Arabic 5. Duration of contract: 3 months. The starting date will be determined based on agreement between the Innovation for Development team and the Intern. 6.
