Call for Papers The Journals of Gerontology Series A : Biological Sciences and Medical Sciences® Impact Factor: 5.957 5-Year Impact Factor: 5.783 The biological underpinnings of successful aging and aging frailty are of intense interest to the gerontology community. Among the areas of active investigation are the role and biology of adult stem and precursor cells. Understanding the age-related changes that occur in these cells has the potential to lead to a potential therapeutic target. Given the lack of pharmacologic interventions for aging related conditions, defining the biology of stem cells as a therapeutic target has crucial therapeutic implications. To address this the Journals of Gerontology Series A: Biological Sciences and Medical Sciences is planning a special joint issue dedicated to this area of investigation. Dr. Joshua Hare (Medical Sciences) and Dr. Isabel Beerman (Biological Sciences) will serve as the guest editors for this special issue. We invite investigators to submit primary research papers for the special issue entitled Biology and Clinical Relevance of Age Related Changes in Stem Cells. Topics that will be considered include, but are not limited to, the following: • The biology of aging in stem and precursor cells • The role of stem cells in tissue regeneration and rejuvenation throughout mammalian life • Translational research in activating endogenous stem cells or using exogenous stem cells as a therapeutic intervention for aging related conditions • The role of stem cell depletion in aging frailty and neurocognitive decline • Stem cells and the immune system • The role of precursor cells in immunosenescence • Stem cells and nutritional interventions/microbiome Manuscripts must be submitted via the SCHOLARONE website mc.manuscriptcentral.com/jgms and/or mc.manuscriptcentral.com/jgbs by JANUARY 15TH, 2018. Authors are advised to carefully read and follow formatting instructions detailed in the Authors Guidelines located at academic.oup.com/biomedgerontology/pages/General_ Instructions_1 for Biological Sciences and academic.oup.com/biomedgerontology/pages/General_Instructions_2 for Medical Sciences. Manuscript submission deadline: JANUARY 15, 2018 Articles will be available in Advance Access shortly after final acceptance with anticipated print publication in early 2019.
