Call to Artists Are you passionate about the process of making art? Do you want people to think ‘outside the box’ about issues of immigration, settlement and cultural diversity?

Call for: On-site installation/project as part of Nocturne: Art at Night 2015 Event Date: Saturday, October 17, 2015 Event time: 6 p.m. to 12 a.m. Set up time: 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.

About Nocturne: Art at Night is an annual independent festival bringing art and energy to the streets of Halifax and Dartmouth. The festival provides the opportunity to visit the area’s most vibrant art galleries, museums, and cultural organizations for its 30,000 attendees. 2015 will mark the eighth edition of the festival. The Canadian Museum of Immigration at Pier 21 explores the theme of immigration to Canada in order to enhance public understanding of the experiences of immigrants as they arrived in Canada, of the vital role immigration has played in the building of Canada and of the contributions of immigrants to Canada’s culture, economy and way of life.

Call to Artists The Canadian Museum of Immigration at Pier 21 is planning to participate in Nocturne: Art at Night 2015 with a significant installation/project. We are actively seeking artists to create a site-specific installation/project to be experienced by Museum visitors from 6 p.m. to 12 a.m. on Saturday, October 17, 2015. The Museum is accepting proposals for installations/projects in the following spaces:

  



Visual projections on the pedway which connects the Museum at 1055 Marginal Road and the Immigration Annex building at 1099 Marginal Road (set up cannot start before 4 p.m. and must be completed by 6 p.m.)

Outdoor project/installation on the sidewalk near the Museum (set up cannot start before 4 p.m. and must be completed by 6 p.m.)

  

Hall of Tribute at the Museum

Selected artists will create/perform for the agreed amount of time, provide all materials needed for their creation/performance and retain ownership of work they produce. The Museum will contribute a maximum of $5 000 for the project. The project must relate to the Museum’s mandate to explore the theme of immigration to Canada in order to enhance public understanding of the experience of immigrants as they arrived to Canada, of the vital role immigration has played in the building of Canada and of the contributions of immigrants to Canada's culture, economy and way of life.

Bilingual project content is considered an asset

 

Submission Guidelines Submission Deadline: Sunday, May 24, 2015 at 11:59 p.m. Late submissions will not be considered. The following information is required: 1. Contact information: artist’s full name, e-mail address, mailing address and telephone number 2. Artist’s biography, maximum 100 words (should be press ready - may be posted during the event to promote the artist) 3. Artist statement and resume 4. Project description (1 page or less) 5. Proposed project budget including planned revenues (please list any sponsorship or grants) and planned expenses (please be as precise as possible, include quotes if relevant) 6. Proposed request for funds from the Museum to support the project, to a maximum of $5,000 7. Submit 3 to 5 images including titles of recent works, named as such: Firstname_Lastname_Titleofproject_1 and should include one press ready image (at least 300 dpi) Firstname_Lastname_Titleofproject_PressReady_1
