Camp St. Cecilia is a summer program designed to give

girls ages 4-17 an opportunity to have summer fun while learning. Campers experience St. Cecilia Academy’s academics, athletics, and fine arts programs and have the chance to interact with faculty, students, coaches, alumnae, and parents.

The camps offer excellent instruction for girls with experienced instructors. Each girl attending Camp St. Cecilia will be exposed to skills in a variety of areas to further develop her curricular and extracurricular interests. CAMP HOURS: All camps are half-day unless otherwise noted, either from 9 a.m.-noon or 1-4 p.m. Girls attending both sessions may stay all day, bring a lunch, and eat in the cafeteria with other campers and Camp St. Cecilia staff members.

BEFORE AND AFTER-CARE: Camp St. Cecilia is happy to

offer before and after-care from 7:30-8:45 a.m. and 4-5:30 p.m. Girls will enjoy a snack, play games, and participate in other

DROP OFF/PICK UP: Drop-off and pick-up will be in

Alumnae Hall at the front entrance of St. Cecilia. Please bring your daughter into Alumnae Hall the first day of camp to verify necessary information before camp begins. Check-in will begin at 8:30 a.m. the first day of each camp week for the morning session and 12:30 p.m. for the afternoon session. After the first day, drop-off will begin at 8:45 a.m. for morning sessions and 12:45 p.m. for afternoon sessions. Campers dropped off before 8:30 a.m. will be report to before-care at the $10 per day drop in rate. Campers not picked up by 4:15 p.m. will go to after-care at the $10 per day drop in rate.

JUNE 5-9, 9 A.M.-12 P.M. Imaginative Art & Illustration: Grades K-2

Cost: $130 Campers will read and explore the stories and illustrative techniques of some favorite authors like Eric Carle, Leo Lionni, and Lois Ehlert and will learn how to use some of those techniques to develop and create their own original works of art. The week will conclude with a gallery showing. Instructors Joan Coode and Beverly Hays have taught together for 16 years at Westminster School for Young Children and will teach this camp.

Around the World in Five Days: Grades K-3

Cost: $150 Girls will take a trip of a lifetime in this camp! Each day, campers will be world travelers and visit a different country. They will experience the culture through music, dance, play, food, games, crafts, and more. No passport needed! SCA alumna Shelly Gaughan will teach this camp along with her sister Lissa Gaughan.

Tennis FUNdamentals: Grades 1-4

Cost: $130 This camp offers girls a basic understanding of the game of tennis with an emphasis on the fundamentals and match

play. Each camper will learn the five basic shots in tennis and also learn to keep score and court position. This camp will be coached by Lisa Fielding, who has coached tennis at all age levels and has been involved in tennis for over 30 years. She emphasizes fun, hard work, and a healthy competitive spirit while maintaining a high level of sportsmanship.

Dessert Wars: Grades 5-8

Cost: $170 Designed with a little friendly competition in mind, campers will battle it out to see which team finishes the week as the Dessert Wars Champions. Campers will be divided into teams and face daily challenges, tackling treats such as cookie cakes, dessert bars, cupcakes, and more. This is a great camp to enroll a large group of friends in or come on your own! This popular camp is taught by Kathleen Urciuoli, SCA dining hall manager, who has over 20 years experience as a professional baker. Please note: Eggs, dairy, tree-nuts, peanuts, and gluten will be used and may present a challenge for food allergies.

Finding Your Voice: Grades 7-9

Cost: $150 Most of us want to sing but lack confidence. This camp will explore the beauty of the solo voice through exercises and the repertoire of Broadway music. Campers will learn to choose from a palette of vocal colors in a supportive and friendly environment, and become more familiar with reading and singing from the musical page. SCA choral director Stephanie Hahn Nolan will teach this camp. She is a vocal soloist who has taught private and group voice to children, teens, and adults.

Mixed Media and Collage Art: Grades 5-8 Splish, Splash: Grades PreK-2

Cost: $140 Campers will explore the wonderful world of water with SCA alumna and history teacher Sara Strobel. Each day will incorporate an H20 theme with story time, crafts, snacks, activities and games, and actual water play. Bring your bathing suit and splish, splash the summer days away!

Storybook Camp: Grades 1-2

Cost: $130 Join us for a magical storybook adventure! We’ll read some of the most beloved works of children’s literature and participate in activities that bring the books and characters to life. Join Madeline, Chrysanthemum, and Elephant & Piggie for crafts, music, play acting, reading and more! SCA alumna Helen Gomez will teach this camp. Note: Overbrook 1st and 2nd graders will complete all summer reading assignments during this week.

Camp Gymboree: Grades 3-8

Cost: $120 Stay active this summer by playing games, exercising, and learning about various team and individual sports, games and more in this camp. The camp will include: parachute, different tag games, capture the flag, relay races, wiffle ball, basketball,

JUNE 5-8, 6-8 P.M. Volleyball Setter/Hitter Camp: Grades 7-9

Cost: $120 (must have experience) This camp is geared toward volleyball players with experience

setting or hitting who want to develop these specific skills for high school play. SCA head volleyball coach Maggie Kuyper will coach this camp.

JUNE 12-16, 9 A.M.-12 P.M. Fairy Tale Dramatics: Grades PreK-2

Cost: $130 Some favorite fairy tales will be presented in their original form as well as with some new and surprising twists. Early primary age girls will design the set and make costumes to act out the well-beloved story of the little red hen. Parents will be invited on the last day of camp for a lively performance. Instructors Joan Coode and Beverly Hays have taught together for 16 years at Westminster School for Young Children.

Around the World Cooking and Crafts: Grades 2-5

Cost: $140 Come learn about a new country each day with St. Henry Spanish teacher Maria Nicholson. Each day campers will explore diverse cultures through the most famous foods, games and fun crafts from France, India, Mexico, Poland, and Brazil.

Mad Scientist Science Camp: Grades 3-5

Cost: $150 Learn about science through interactive and hands-on activities and experiments. Become a junior scientist and

explore the wonders of chemical reactions, bubbling potions, and explosions. SCA alumna and St. Henry 5th grade teacher Robyn Biga will lead girls in this exciting camp.

Middle School Tennis: Grades 4-8

Cost: $130 Girls will learn to develop plots and bring characters to life in this camp through writing their own short stories and poetry. Through observation, reflection, and fun, campers bring their creativity and imagination to life as they discover the power of the pen. SCA mom and homeschooling instructor Margaret Smith, a former Air Force jet pilot, will teach this camp.

Girls in Leadership: Grades 6-8

Cost: $140 In this camp young ladies will learn about building confidence, self-esteem, and how to embrace and love themselves. Campers will learn about health, wellness, friendship, peer pressure, making a difference, and

leadership development. The week will end with a “Girls Day Out” celebrating strength, uniqueness, and going forth as great leaders. Amber Williams coaches volleyball at SCA and looks forward to mentoring girls on this journey!

JUNE 12-16, 1-4 P.M. American Girl Camp: Grades 1-3

Cost: $160 Pack your American Girl Doll for a week of fun-filled American Girl adventure! This camp will explore the experiences of American girls from colonial times to the present through crafting, games, story time, and much more. Margaret Pyburn, director of student activities and SCA alumna, will teach this camp.

Brownies, Cookies, and Cakes, Oh My: Grades 1-4

Cost: $160 Girls will learn the secrets of baking everything from muffins to cakes and will be ready to dazzle their friends and families with new desserts! Donna Nunan, former SCA mom, will be teaching this popular camp again this year. The campers will bake tasty treats for a reception with parents at the end of the week.

Study Skills & Organization: Grades 4-6

Cost: $165 This camp will help your daughter learn some time-tested study

skills and organizational hints as she prepares to head into the middle school and junior high school years. Designed to give your daughter a head start on the school year, this camp will help students with time management, ideas for keeping track of all the different subjects, homework and projects, as well as providing tips on how to study for tests. SCA parent and Overbrook teacher Christina Cathey will teach this camp.

Intro to Spanish Language & Culture: Grades 4-6

Cost: $140 This camp will give an introduction into Spanish culture through language, dance, music, and food. Traditions and celebrations will also be incorporated into the camp. Amber Williams coaches volleyball at SCA and will bring her love of Spanish to teaching this camp!

Adventures in Clay: Grades 5-8

Cost: $160 Girls will learn the basics of hand building, clay construction, and applying color to clay, expressing creativity through working with their hands. In this camp, girls will experience the joy of creating textured plaques, animal creatures, coiled pots, and so much more. This camp will be taught by art instructor Libby Goldammer, who teaches art for the home school tutorial at St. Philip Catholic Church.

Simply Songwriting: Grades 7-9

Cost: $160 Write songs with a Nashville songwriter! In this camp you will learn what makes a song catchy, how to properly structure a hit

song, and what it looks like to co-write a song with someone. At the end of five days you will have an acoustic version of a “radio ready” song and walk away with your own CD of what you write in class. It is helpful if you play an instrument, but not necessary. SCA alumna Betsy Brewer, a current singer and songwriter, will teach this camp.

JUNE 19-23, 9 A.M.-12 P.M. Dancing Princesses: Grades PreK-K

Cost: $130 Each day of this camp will focus on a different princess as girls aged 4-5 learn different creative movements. SCA alumna Jennifer Harwell will introduce girls to the world of dance in a fun and nurturing environment. Jennifer is the owner of Tennessee Arts Conservatory and brings her experience of dance and choreography to this camp. The camp will end with a performance for parents and families. No experience necessary.

Loving Me with Confidence-Girls Rock: Grades K-4

Cost: $140 In this camp girls will dedicate the week to building confidence and self-esteem. Workshops will include being brave, celebrating diversity, and being your own unique self. The week will conclude with a “Girls Day Out” full of pampering and fun. Amber Williams coaches volleyball at SCA and looks

This camp will build confidence in girls as they learn various techniques and give a performance at the end of the week. This forensics camp will be led by SCA alumna and Overbrook forensics coach Diane Meier.

Nashville Community Service Camp: Grades 7-12

Cost: $120 In this camp, girls will learn how to plug into Nashville’s vast volunteer programs by visiting and working at five area locations that offer person-to-person service and hands-on experiences. Past camps have worked with Fannie Battle, Room in the Inn, Mary, Queen of Angels, Second Harvest, KIPP Academy, and the Nashville Food Project. Deanna Kendall, SCA history teacher, will lead campers on this year’s journey of service.

JUNE 19-23, 1-4 P.M. Fun with Art: Grades PreK-1

Cost: $150 This camp is geared for younger girls and features a fun week of exploring art through experimentation with various media. Campers will create many artworks that will premiere at an art show at the end of the week. Science of Fairy Tales: Grades 1-3

Cost: $150 Can you build a house that the big bad wolf can’t blow down? In Science of Fairy Tales, we will use science to help our favorite characters. Girls will be lead in their problem solving by Meghan Nicholson, SCA alumna and teacher at Christ the King School.

Math Boot Camp: Grades 3-5

Cost: $140 This camp meets girls where they are with their math skills and bumps them up to a new level. The camp will spend time working with multiplication, division, word problems, and fractions. Girls will also work with logic and reasoning skills. But never fear! There will be a lot of fun making games out of mathematical concepts, including an ice cream party at the end of the week. SCA parent and Overbrook School teacher

Christina Cathey will teach this camp.

Camp JOY: Grades 5-8

Cost: $75 Getting to know Jesus, Others, and Yourself leads to true JOY in the Christian life! Join the Dominican Sisters for a week of faith and fun, as together we grow in our friendship with Jesus through daily theme-based activities that incorporate the Scriptures, the saints, and various virtues. We will make new friends and have a lot of fun through a mix of age-appropriate games, activities, and crafts that help us discover more about God, ourselves, and the fascinating treasures of our Catholic faith.

Baking Camp Fun: Grades 1-4

Cost: $160 We all love baking! In this popular camp, students will learn the secrets of baking in the kitchen-measuring, mixing and creating scrumptious baked treats. Guaranteed to be a week of fun, girls will enjoy baking from scratch & following recipes to make everything from cookies and cakes to brownies, muffins and breads. Each day the girls will take home delicious desserts they’ve made, and there will be a reception with parents at the end of the week. SCA parent and St. Henry teacher Janie Sizemore will teach this camp. Join us for a baking adventure!

Middle School Cheerleading: Grades 5-8

Cost: $140 This camp offers an exciting and challenging week full of cheers, chants, motions and dances. There will be a performance for parents at the end of the week. This camp will be led by former UT cheerleader Katie Barksdale and current SCA students who cheer for MBA.

Cost: $170 Come have fun exploring the use of mixed media in art! Campers will learn to create works of art in the style of Andy Warhol, Jim Dine, and Wayne Thiebaud. Girls will be introduced to a wide variety of artist materials. There will be a celebration of art in the SCA gallery on the final day of camp. Babysitter Boot Camp: Grades 6-8 (June 26-28, 9 a.m.-1 p.m.) Cost: $140 The American Red Cross will train campers for a successful babysitting business. Topics will include providing care for infants and children, choosing activities, handling emergencies, and recognizing behaviors. Girls will also be trained for first aid, infant and child CPR, and using an AED.

The week focuses on having fun being a GIRL! Jada Edmondson, SCA alumna and Overbrook teacher, teaches this camp and is assisted by current SCA students.

Elementary Cheerleading: Grades 1-4

Cost: $140 This camp offers an exciting and challenging week full of cheers, chants, motions and dances. There will be a performance for parents at the end of the week. Divided into teams, girls will work together to create scrumptious baked treats from scratch. Each day, the girls will take home delicious desserts they’ve made, and there will be a reception with parents at the end of the week. Movie Magic: Grades 5-8

Cost: $140 Girls will experience the magic of movie making when they join a creative team to write, produce, shoot, edit, and act in their own movies. John and Jami Francescon, owners of ScreenPop, will teach this camp, bringing their combined experience of creating videos for major TV networks and feature films.

Once Upon a Musical: Grades 4-8

Cost: $160 Do you love musical theatre? Join us for a week of performing various scenes, songs, and dances from beloved musicals such as The Sound of Music and Seussical, which will be rehearsed during the week and performed in a showcase the last day of camp. This camp will be directed by SCA alumna Ellie Vaughn, who starred as Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz. Current and alumnae members of the SCA theatre program will assist Miss Vaughn in the camp.

Advanced Volleyball Camp: Grades 8-9

Cost: $130 This camp is geared toward experienced volleyball players looking to develop their skills for middle school varsity and high school teams. SCA head volleyball coach Maggie Kuyper will coach this camp.

Cost: $160 Join SCA alumnae Jada Edmondson and Helen Gomez for a week of etiquette fun! Girls will be introduced to and practice manners necessary for little young ladies of today. The camp is complete with tea parties, dances, a princess day, arts and crafts, guest speakers, and much more.

Interpretive Dance: Grades 3-5

Cost: $120 This camp is for girls with a flair for the theatrical. Girls will use inspirational music to set to a drama that will build throughout the week leading to a performance for parents at the end of the week. Girls of all level of experience in dance and drama are welcome to bring their talent to this camp. SCA parent and Overbrook School teacher Christina Cathey will teach this camp.

Jennifer is the owner of Tennessee Arts Conservatory and brings her experience of dance and choreography to this camp. The camp will end with a performance for parents and families. No experience necessary.

Baking for Beginners: Grades 1-4

Cost: $160 Let’s learn to bake! Campers will learn kitchen safety and

basic kitchen and baking skills such as using a mixer, kneading, rolling, and following a recipe. We will make things such as cake pops, decorated cupcakes, ice cream in a bag, drop biscuits, and baked mac n’ cheese. Melody Clarke, SCA alumna and teacher at St. Bernard Academy, will teach this camp.

Junior Scarabs: Grades 1-4

Cost: $150 Do you know what a Scarab is? Want to know what it’s like to be a St. Cecilia girl? This week will be full of the inside secrets and traditions that are dear to all who walk the halls of this special place. Former SCA Spirit Queen Maddie Clarke will transform girls into Scarabs during this camp.

All-Skills Volleyball Camp: Grades 5-7

Cost: $120 This camp will teach the fundamental skills of volleyball; passing, setting, hitting, serving, and footwork. Each day, the drills will build on these fundamentals, leading up to a final day of competitive situations. SCA freshman volleyball coach Amber Williams as well as SCA volleyball athletes will coach this camp.

Discovering Algebra: Grades 7-9

Cost: $135 SCA chemistry and biology teacher Charles Martinez will teach campers algebraic concepts in a fun and hands-on way that will bring new life to the study of math. Girls will learn how to approach math logically and strengthen their understanding of

algebra with creativity, scientific reasoning, and even through friendly debates! Each day will feature engaging labs and experiments. This is a great refresher in math before the start of the new school year.

JULY 17-21, 1-4 P.M. American Girl Camp: Grades 1-3

Cost: $160 Pack your American Girl Doll for a week of fun-filled American Girl adventure! This camp will explore the experiences of American girls from colonial times to the present through crafting, games, story time, and much more. Margaret Pyburn, director of student activities and SCA alumna, will teach this camp.

Introduction to Robotics: Grades 4-6

Cost: $120 Create robots from your own imagination and watch them come to life in this camp! The robots will spin, pick up things, make sounds, and more by programming a simple app on the iPad. Girls only need to bring their imagination to the robotics playing field—no experience necessary. At the end of the week, girls will have their robots compete against other robots for best design and ability to complete various obstacles in the arena. Ashley George teaches physics and is the coach of the SCA robotics team and she will teach this camp.

Study Skills & Organization: Grades 7-8

Cost: $165 This camp will help your daughter learn some time-tested study skills and organizational hints as she prepares to head into the junior high and high school years. Designed to give your daughter a head start on the school year, this camp will help students with time management, ideas for keeping track of all the different subjects, homework and projects, as well as providing tips on how to study for tests. SCA parent and Overbrook teacher Christina Cathey will teach this camp.
