WELCOME Dear Fellow Adventurer, I began Arctic Kingdom with a dream: diving the Arctic Ocean, seeing the incredible, unique wildlife and meeting wonderful people of the North. Bitten by the “Arctic bug”, I dreamed about how to share and make the Arctic more accessible, so more people could experience this very special place on our planet. Working with the people, I wanted to make a difference for the North. This dream has taken me on an incredible journey over the years. As a pioneer in Arctic travel, Arctic Kingdom has had the privilege to welcome thousands of people and share the very best of the beautiful Canadian Arctic. Many adventurers can only dream of the intimate wildlife encounters and raw, pristine wilderness as it become increasingly rare to experience. We at Arctic Kingdom want to help you realize your Arctic dreams. Safely viewing polar bears on the land and sea, spotting narwhal, diving under icebergs and seeing the Northern Lights are bucket list experiences we are thrilled to help you check off. We have been making the Arctic accessible for more than 15 years. We collaborate extensively with Inuit – the indigenous people who have called the Arctic their home for

2

thousands of years – and follow nature’s rhythms to provide you the best Arctic incredible experience, at the optimal times of the year. Our trips are determined by the cycle of life; the migration of narwhal, birds and polar bears, along with natural phenomena, the Northern Lights or the Midnight Sun. We pioneered the Arctic Safari: mobile, landbased experiences that, like in Africa, bring you uniquely close to wildlife. Our Ultimate trips provide private experiences, and our custom-designed private journeys continue to make Arctic dreams a reality. Imagine walking with polar bears, capturing that rare photo of a breaching whale, kayaking amongst centuries-old glaciers and spotting pods of narwhals from the floe edge. Dreams realized. I invite you to experience one of the last great wildernesses on the Earth in 2017.

THE ARCTIC KINGDOM EXPERIENCE Dedicated to creating authentic and awe-inspiring travel experiences for you. Arctic Kingdom is the global leader in land-based travel, custom experiences and getaways in the High Arctic. There is an Inuit belief that everything in nature is infused with the spirit of life. At Arctic Kingdom, we strive to create journeys that invigorate the spirit of life in each of our guests. From snorkeling with the elusive narwhal, to hot air ballooning over glaciers and even photographing newborn polar bear cubs emerging from their dens for the first time; if you can dream it we can make it happen.

6

SMALL GROUPS Inuit believe that people travelling in large groups will not see animals. Travelling in small groups from four to 16 people lets you truly embrace the Arctic wilderness. It also allows for more personalized attention from our staff and guides, allowing you to have the adventure of your dreams.

BRINGING YOU THE BEST OF THE ARCTIC We have been crafting legendary Arctic adventures for more than 15 years. Our unparalleled expertise in Arctic wildlife and habitat, and unmatched access, built through years of experience and deep-rooted relationships with local Inuit communities, allow us to provide you with the most incredible Arctic experiences in safety and comfort.

RESPONSIBLE TOURISM Preserving the Arctic is important to us. Respecting local cultures, empowering communities and leaving wildlife untouched is the only way to be able to provide authentic experiences for years to come. Everything, from the way we plan and operate our trips to our business practices, is geared toward making a positive impact on the regions we visit. To ensure our trips economically benefit the local communities we hire local guides and drivers, buy local produce (whenever possible), eat local food, and use local services. By continually reassessing our trips, we ensure that they are socially, economically, and environmentally sound. Arctic Kingdom strictly adheres and supports the Wildlife Policy for the Territory of Nunavut. Photo Credit: Françoise Gervais

ACCOMMODATIONS

Safari Camps, Lodges & Cabins

Keeping you warm, safe and dry. Our comfortable accommodations allow you to enjoy your Arctic adventures in style.

SAFARI CAMPS Our camps are inspired by the traditional camps of Inuit, polar expeditions, and African-style mobile tented safaris. Pioneers of the Arctic Safari, we have weaved together traditional and modern technology to provide the best, authentic Arctic experience. Positioned on land or on the sea ice, our Premium Safari Camps and Tented Safari Camps are set up seasonally, prior to your arrival. At the end of the short season, we dismantle and sent them back to our local community storage facility, leaving only footprints behind.

Tented Safari Camp While they may appear like a tented camp from the outside, our Tented Safari Camp continually surprises and delights all guests with its roomy and warm interior. The sleep tents are large and spacious at just over 2m (6’9”) tall and an interior of 8m² (90 sq feet), they include a large entrance vestibule, ample standing room and space for all your cameras and luggage. All sleep tents contain two beds with mattresses, duvets, comforters, and full-size pillows.

Trips • Kings of the Arctic (pg 28) • Spring Polar Bears and Glaciers of Baffin (pg 18)

Inspired by African mobile safari camps, our Premium Safari Camp brings elegance and comfort to the Arctic. The modern, specially designed Arctic yurtstyle safari camp structures provide a warm and inviting home-away-from-home in one of the world’s most remote, yet breathtaking places. Sleep quarters are spacious and warm, are 4.8m (16’) in diameter, with over 3m (10’) cathedral ceilings. They have double walls with insulation and are entered via a lockable door. Configurations with either two twin beds or one king size bed are available. Each bed is complete with mattress duvets, pillows, and a warm comforter. No detail has been overlooked – from large windows, to coat hooks and heaters for those that would like it a little toastier.

LODGES & CABINS Mother & Newborn Polar Bear Cub Lodge Features

A beautifully refurbished naval communications base, the Newborn Polar Bear Cub Lodge stands 300 feet on top of an old beach ridge, located just south of Churchill, MB, Canada. Isolated in the middle of the tundra, with the nearest neighbor being 64km (40 miles) away, the lodge is as self-sufficient as it is “off the grid”. This rustic lodge provides some of the world’s best access to mother and newborn polar bear cubs.

46

• Accommodates up to 20 guests. • Some single rooms available, but most are shared by up to four people with bunk beds. • Wood burning fireplace in the central lounge. • A sauna is available, but a shower is not. • Power provided by onsite generators. • Internet is available.

Polar Bear Cabins Features • Accommodates 8 guests. • En suite washrooms with private showers. • Non-obstructive electric fence surrounding the compound provides unparalleled photo opportunities. • Power provided by onsite generators. Photo Credit: David Briggs

Rustic, remote and accessible by air, our Polar Bear Cabins rest on the shores of Hudson Bay. These simple, polar bear-proof buildings surrounded by an electric fence, offer a comfortable and safe home in the heart of polar bear country. The complex consists of four guest cabins and a central dining/lounge kitchen cabin. Allowing for a maximum of eight guests, the Polar Bear Cabins create a private and intimate polar bear viewing experience. Each guest cabin has an entryway for storing camera gear and tripods, and a main room featuring two beds, a small laptop computer table and adequate space for the rest of your gear and clothing. The cabins come complete with linens, duvet comforter and pillows, and have their own washroom with a flushable toilet with propane-heated shower.

Bathurst Inlet Lodge

With all the charm of a B&B and nearly 50 years of hospitality, Bathurst Inlet Lodge welcomes families, birders, and students of Arctic history and Inuit culture. Just north of the Arctic Circle in Nunavut, this lodge is located among spectacular landscapes with incredible opportunities for wildlife viewings.

While single accommodations are sometimes available, the comfortable rooms are based on double occupancy and typically hold two twin beds per room and wonderful views. Some are in historic buildings and others are cabins or houses built specially for guests. Some rooms have private bathrooms, others feature a washroom in the room and shared bath or shower house. There is hot and cold running water and propane, electric, or oil heaters in all guest accommodations.

Trip • Bathurst Inlet Lodge (pg 36)

Northern Lights Fly-in Lodge

Get as close to the Northern Lights as any earthbound spectator can in the Northern Lights Fly-in Lodge. This charming and rustic lodge lies within the auroral oval, the enormous band of energy that circles the north magnetic pole. Located about 20-30 minutes by air from Yellowknife, NWT, in the rugged country north of Great Slave Lake’s East Arm, it’s the only facility on the 27km (17 mile) long lake, far from any light or noise pollution. The quiet and secluded location makes it an ideal spot for taking in the magnificence of the Canadian north and viewing the Aurora Borealis. Visitors in the summer and autumn can land on the lake in a float-equipped aircraft or on skis in winter.

48

The main lodge is a custom designed modern log structure perched on a rock knoll overlooking a tranquil lake. Since the resort opened in 1981, the lodge has taken great care to preserve the area’s land, water and natural resources. Together with five smaller log cabins, the lodge can accommodate up to 35 guests. Facilities include free wireless internet, hot tub, sauna, and an Aurora-Watch Wake-Up Service.

GOURMET MEALS in breathtaking places

We know that no amazing Arctic experience is complete without delicious food. What better way to end a day of wildlife sightings and activities than with mouth-watering appetizers and a gourmet meal? For most of our safaris and all of our custom journeys, our culinary team prepares menus that showcase the best the Arctic has to offer. A fusion of locally sourced delicacies such as Arctic char, turbot, caribou and musk ox, with specialty foods sourced “down south”, we consider or meals to be comfort gourmet food with a dash of panache. Bon Appétit!
