CANADIAN GLYCOMICS SYMPOSIUM MAY 10 - 12, 2017 BANFF, ALBERTA

2017

AN INVITATION TO SPONSORS

WHO WE ARE

The Canadian Glycomics Symposium will be jointly hosted by the Alberta Glycomics Centre and the Canadian Glycomics Network (GlycoNet).

The Canadian Glycomics Network (GlycoNet) is a pan-Canadian initiative connecting more than 100 researchers from 25 academic and research institutions, as well as numerous industry and international partners, who work together to develop solutions to unmet health needs through the study of glycomics. By bringing together all key Canadian glycomics researchers, GlycoNet will deliver novel solutions to important health issues. GlycoNet was announced in February 2015, and since that time we have released funding for two rounds of research projects, and anticipate the release of a third round of funding in the near future. We expect exciting things in the year ahead, including the Network’s Second Annual General Meeting and the 2017 Canadian Glycomics Symposium.

The Alberta Glycomics Centre (formerly known as Alberta Ingenuity Centre for Carbohydrate Science, AICCS) comprises a team of highly motivated individuals whose research interests span a multidisciplinary array of biological processes and technologies specific to carbohydrate research. The fields of chemistry, biology, medicine, and engineering are dynamically integrated as experts in areas such as carbohydrate synthesis, proteincarbohydrate interactions, glycoengineering, drug discovery, vaccine development, mass spectrometry, and X-ray crystallography work together to explore carbohydrate science. Currently, 10 principal investigators conduct their research as part of the Glycomics Centre.

Glycomics researchers analyze the many and varied roles of carbohydrates (sugars) in biological processes. Glycomics-based research has the potential to lead to the development of new drugs and vaccines for conditions such as influenza, genetic diseases and diabetes.

MEETING INFORMATION For over a decade, Canadian researchers in the field of glycomics have attended the National Carbohydrate Symposium, organized by the Alberta Glycomics Centre. Each year, the event attracted more than 150 participants from around the globe. With the creation of the Canadian Glycomics Network, the National Carbohydrate Symposium was transformed into the Canadian Glycomics Symposium, a premier North American meeting for researchers in the field of glycomics. Our 2017 Symposium will bring together Canadian glycomics researchers, as well as international scientists in the field. We expect to welcome more than 200 researchers, trainees and industry leaders in the fields of glycomics, biotechnology and pharmaceuticals. The Symposium will showcase some of the most notable voices in Canadian glycomics research and serve as an ideal occasion to share knowledge in the emerging field of glycomics. There will also be ample opportunity for professional development and networking. The Second Annual Canadian Glycomics Symposium will be held in Banff, Alberta at the Banff Park Lodge. Visitors from Canada and beyond will get the chance to experience one of Canada’s treasures: the splendid Canadian Rockies. We invite organizations and companies that share our goals of achieving groundbreaking research in health, who wish to establish a presence in this dynamic community of science, and who seek direct contact with pioneers in the field of glycomics to consider partnering with us.
