Introduction Once again, the Government of Catalonia attends Womex with 17 Catalan companies. The Government of Catalonia, through the Catalan Institute for the Cultural Companies (ICEC), has now attended Womex for many years, following the fair as it moved through cities such as Seville, Copenhagen, Thessaloniki, Cardiff, Budapest, Santiago de Compostela and, now, Katowice, as it’s one of the focal points of the music industry. Our main aim is to help raise the visibility of the music sector in Catalonia through several international actions. Womex has always been an important part on the international strategies for the promotion of the Catalan music industry and an excellent shop window for World Music bands from Catalonia, as well as for a great diversity of companies (management agencies, record labels, publishers, etc.) from our country. Seventeen Catalan companies and institutions are attending this edition of Womex to be held in Katowice. Most of them are co-exhibitors at the Catalan Arts - Government of Catalonia stand (number 57 – 62). We’d like also to recommend you the offWomex showcase that Txarango offers on October 28 (21:45h, International Congress Centre). Block-busting chart-toppers bringing their Barcelona Sound to the world, Txarango mix Latin grooves, reggae and dub in an energy-laden show that has positively uplifted audiences across four continents to date. On stage, their approach turns into pure feast and forcefulness. The message is clear: energy, joy and celebration. It has two main areas of focus: world music and popular culture. The fair has been held every year since 1998 and has become a setting for exchange professionals that sell and buy productions. Fira Mediterrània is an interdisciplinary event and the programme covers all artistic languages – music, visual arts, circus, dance, exhibitions, storytelling and theatre.
