CBS Course Medical Mycology in Guangzhou, China The internationally renowned CBS Course on Medical Mycology had its successful course in Guangzhou, China, November 19-29, 2013. The course was a joint effort of Chinese Dermatology Association (CDA) and the CBS-KNAW Fungal Biodiversity Centre. This international course has been held annually since 1989, and also held every two years in China since 2009. The course followed the previous trends, where renowned mycology experts at home and abroad were invited, totally 15 invited experts on selected topics, while Prof. G.S. de Hoog, the course founder and senior scientist at the CBS - KNAW Fungal Biodiversity Centre, gave all presentations on fungal biodiversity.

There were nearly 40 participants attended the course, who are mainly medical microbiologists, dermatology clinicians, laboratory technologists and students from different provinces of China, and from the Netherland, Turkey and Sudan. The book Atlas of Clinical Fungi was used as lab manual. The course was devoted to identification of pathogenic and opportunistic mould and yeasts. A large and representative set of organisms has been offered for practice work in the course. All of the participants passed the theoretical and practical examinations, and were provided with certificate of the CBS Medical Mycology Course. The next CBS Medical Mycology Courses will be in Utrecht, The Netherlands (November 2014) and Shanghai, China (January 2015).
