Cosmetology Program OVERVIEW Thank you for your interest in the Cosmetology Program. This course will prepare you for a career in cosmetology by providing you the skills to cut, color, perm, straighten, and braid hair along with other applications and techniques. In addition, you will also learn manicuring, pedicuring and skin care. Approximately 75% of the 1600 clocked hours is spent on performing hands-on applications. COLLEGE REQUIREMENT Effective Spring 2012, Cerritos College is moving toward mandatory Assessment, Orientation and Counseling for students new to college. CERTIFICATE AND DEGREES Upon successful completion of the cosmetology program, students can petition for a certificate of completion. Students may also qualify for an A.A. degree upon successful completion of additional coursework to complete the Cerritos College Graduation Requirements and achieve the minimum of 60 units. -Please refer to the schedule of classes and/or the college catalog for complete detailed information. PROGRAM HOURS & DURATION The cosmetology program offered during the day or in the evening. -DAY students attend class from 8:30am to 5:00pm Monday thru Friday. Students can complete the program over (1) two regular semesters and one eight-week summer session over a period of one academic calendar year or (2) three regular semesters over a period of one and one-half years. -EVENING students attend class 5:30pm to 10:30pm Monday thru Thursday. Students can complete the program over (1) four regular semester and two eight-week summer sessions over a period of two academic calendar years or (2) six regular semesters over a period of three academic calendar years. REGISTRATION During the fall & spring semesters, new students need to register in COS 60A: Introductory to Cosmetology I. During the summer, full-time day students need to register in COS 70A: Introductory Cosmetology. During the summer, part-time night students need to register in COS 71A: Introductory Cosmetology. -Please refer to the schedule of classes for appropriate class ticket numbers and section offerings/availability. This is subject to college and legislative changes.
