CHAPTER PRESIDENTS CORNER NCMA’s Chapter Relations Team is chatting with chapter presidents to learn more about what makes their chapters tick.

C HA R L E S TO N , S C SCOTT E. POOLE, CPCM, CFCM President, Charleston Chapter Charleston, SC

What is one quality of the Charleston Chapter that you are particularly proud of?

What is the most rewarding aspect of being a chapter president?

Teamwork! I am extremely proud of our ability to work together as a team. Our elected officers, appointees, and chapter members bring their individual thoughts and expertise in a collaborative effort to fulfill our chapter’s objectives.

The most rewarding aspect is the accomplishments achieved by our membership from the education and training we provide our members and potential new members throughout the year.

How is the Charleston Chapter attracting new members? Our chapter offers programs focusing on education and training. These programs are promoted on our website, e-mails, LinkedIn, and other social media. We encourage our membership to bring future members to our monthly meetings. Also, we make presentations about the Charleston Chapter to other organizations in our community. A few of our activities include: §§

Our certification program—Last year, we successfully presented the “CFCM Boot Camp.” We had three individuals sign up for this course and several that wanted to attend. We had one individual obtain certification and another is about to take the test. This year, we are adding the “CPCM Boot Camp.”

§§

Webinars—In the past, we’ve had much success with member turnout for these events. Our goal is to have three of them. The topics vary based on interest.

§§

World Congress—In the past, we’ve had members go to World Congress. The education and training provided is passed on to our members and potential new members who were unable to attend.

Contract Management | November 2015

What can we look forward to from the Charleston Chapter in the future? Our goal is to grow the membership by providing continued education and training for the Charleston, South Carolina, area contracting community.

When is the next event your chapter will be hosting? We will be hosting a lunch speaking event with Steve Harnig, head of contracts, SPAWAR Atlantic this month. Please visit our website (http://resources.ncmahq.org/chapters/charleston_sc/default. aspx) for more information.

If you could share one thought with other chapter leaders, what would it be? Lead by example. Show the excellence in everything you do so your elected officers, appointees, and members will reflect that excellence to the contract management community as a whole.
