The gradual pace of an APT journey allows you time to be enchanted by the ever-changing landscapes and immersed in the complexities of China and Japan's history and culture. One thing is certain: the memories you forge with APT are ones that will remain with you forever.

12 | THE APT DIFFERENCE

THE APT DIFFERENCE | 13

THE APT DIFFERENCE AUSTRALIAN & FAMILY-OWNED – ORIGINATING IN 1927 Australia’s leading travel company, APT is still owned and run by the McGeary family. With origins that date back to 1927, a special year of celebration awaits in 2017, and we’d love for you to join us.

Held by APT, this can be used for a new APT booking made within three years of original cancellation. Conditions apply, see pages 82-83.

AWARD-WINNING TOUR OPERATOR Among many other awards and accolades we've received, in 2015 APT was voted Australia’s Best River Cruise Operator, Best International Tour Operator and Best Domestic Tour Operator by the Australian Federation of Travel Agents (AFTA). It's further proof that when you choose to travel with APT, you're choosing to travel with the best.

NORTHCOTE TO BEIJING – IT’S BEEN QUITE A JOURNEY Since humble beginnings in a small Melbourne suburb, APT has pioneered the way we travel. It’s a fascinating story. When the trams stopped, opportunity knocked In the 1920s, the cable tram drivers in Melbourne’s northern suburbs went on an extended strike. While some saw inconvenience, a 24-year-old mechanic named Bill McGeary saw opportunity. Bill converted his truck into a makeshift bus

and began ferrying commuters from the tram-starved suburb of Northcote to the tram and train terminus in Clifton Hill.

On board with the times

As the 1960s rolled into the 1970s the company, having become Australian Pacific Coaches, was soon conducting day tours and themed weekends, including trips that took Victorians to Sydney to see the then-risqué musical, Hair. In the mid-70s the company made its first foray overseas, operating escorted journeys through New Zealand as Australian Pacific Tours (APT).

real bus in 1927,” recounts his son Geoff McGeary.

Following almost two decades of consistent growth, APT looked even further afield and started its Canada and Alaska program

“He soon sold his Northcote route to buy a bigger and busier route in the southern suburbs. Over the next 20 years he

in 1991. In doing so, the company moved beyond traditional coach touring to include journeys by luxury train and cruise ship.

bought more buses to cover more and more routes.”

Over the years, APT also built on its outback experience in the Northern Territory and introduced luxury wilderness adventures in Western Australia’s remote Kimberley region. For Geoff’s daughter Louise Tandy (née McGeary), also an APT director,

“Dad’s gamble really paid off – he was able to buy his first

the Kimberley set the scene for one of her fondest travel memories.

“He secured contracts for a number of school runs as well

“We were at APT’s lodge at Bell Gorge when local Indigenous children put on a corroboree for my son’s third birthday. It was

a really magical experience.”

But in the mid-1950s, Bill’s health began to fail and the

once-thriving business deteriorated. Determined to save it, a 19-year-old Geoff obtained a special under-age bus driver’s licence and took up the challenge of running McGeary’s Parlor Coaches.

Next stop: the Red Centre

As it turned out, Geoff not only possessed his father’s entrepreneurial spirit, but also his own insatiable appetite for discovering new destinations.

In 2005, Geoff saw an opportunity to introduce Australians and New Zealanders to a new style of travel and launched the company’s innovative European river cruising holidays. Since then, APT has continued to expand its range, which today covers more than 70 countries around the globe. On a personal note, Geoff’s services to Australian tourism

recalls Geoff’s son Robert McGeary, an APT director.

were acknowledged in 2014 when he was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia. More recently he was recognised as an Australian Tourism Legend at the 2015 Qantas Australian Tourism Awards. Geoff is characteristically modest about his achievements.

“It was about unique places where interesting things happened.”

“It’s not about what I’ve done, it’s about our people,” Geoff reflects.

Recognising Australia’s increasing enthusiasm for domestic tourism, Geoff became involved in pioneering camping holidays to Central Australia and Queensland.

“Our people are so passionate about dreaming up once-ina-lifetime travel experiences for our guests and making them possible. That makes me really proud.”

“We grew up hearing stories about a coach bogged in a riverbed, or new places dad was exploring,” Robert remembers.

2017 will mark 90 years since Bill McGeary purchased his first bus. It’s been an unforgettable journey so far – and we look forward to celebrating it with you.

“The dinner table conversation was never about football,”

to absorb the serenity of the river and take in the rich surrounding forest and towering rock formations. After lunch back on board, continue to the tranquil and spectacular Wu Gorge. Noted for its sheer peaks and towering cliff faces, the gorge is surrounded by the Wu Mountains and is the second of the Three Gorges system. Later, your ship will graciously glide between the majestic Chijia Mountain and Baiyan Mountain to enter Qutang Gorge, the shortest, narrowest and most dramatic of the Three Gorges. Also considered the most beautiful, the two peaks of Qutang Gorge rise up alongside the Yangtze River some 1,300 metres. As you cruise past the south bank, look out for the ancient inscriptions that are engraved into the white chalk cliff faces. In the afternoon, there is the opportunity to attend a fun hands-on arts and crafts demonstration on board. This evening, you can indulge in a delicious dinner with your fellow guests and APT Tour Director. BLD

Day 7. Fengdu or Relocation Tour. Rise early to participate in a tai chi class atop the ship’s Observation Deck for a relaxing start to your day. Following breakfast, disembark for a tour of Fengdu, a graceful little ‘Ghost City’ that lies in the foothills of the mountains by the river. Fengdu is noted for its bustling markets and the many Buddha and Tao temples gathered on Ming Mountain. Alternatively, you may choose to take a ‘Relocation Tour’, which will give you an insight into the impact of the Three Gorges Dam project on local farming communities and the surrounding area. In the afternoon, choose from a range of activities. Perhaps attend a Chinese brush painting and calligraphy demonstration, learn how to play the ancient game of Mahjong, learn a few words of Mandarin, or participate in a dumpling making session run by the ship’s talented chef. In the evening, enjoy the Emperor’s Farewell Dinner, a Chinese banquet feast. BLD

ANCIENT XI’AN & THE FAMOUS TERRACOTTA ARMY Day 8. Chongqing, Xi'an. Disembark your ship for the final time in Chongqing this morning. A strategic port since ancient times, Chongqing was established in the 11th century and has a dramatic history, having played a key role in World War II due to its mountainous landscape. Head to the Chongqing Zoo, where more than 200 varieties of wild and rare animals are on display, including the endangered Giant Pandas. This beautiful creature is fast replacing the dragon as China’s emblem and has been kept in zoos since the early Han Dynasty – over two thousand years ago. Later, visit a local restaurant for a hotpot lunch before transferring to the airport for your flight to Xi’an. This evening, choose from Thai, Cantonese or Western cuisine. Two Night Stay: Xi’an, Shangri-La Hotel. BLD

Twist and turn through the dramatic landscapes of the Three Gorges Region Day 9. Xi’an, Terracotta Army. Today you will discover the attractions of Xi’an, one of the oldest cities in China with more than 3,000 years of history. The city was one of China’s Four Great Capitals and is the eastern point of the famous Silk Road. Visit the ancient city wall, one of the largest military defensive systems in the world, constructed in the 14th century during the early Ming Dynasty. Afterwards, travel to a clay factory where impressive terracotta soldiers are still made today. Spend the afternoon at the Museum of Qin Terracotta Warriors and Horses and the Qin Shi Huang Mausoleum. Here lie the three excavation pits where the collection of terracotta sculptures depicting the warriors of Qin Shi Huang, the First Emperor of China, were first unearthed by farmers in 1974. Watch a panoramic movie telling the story of the warriors and enjoy time to visit the three excavation pits where over 8,000 terracotta soldiers, horses, chariots and weapons are arranged in vast columns. This evening, enjoy a Tang Dynasty cultural performance and feast on a local dumpling dinner. Alternatively, you may like to embark on a tour of the Muslim Quarter, followed by dinner at a local restaurant. BLD

THE COSMOPOLITAN CITY OF SHANGHAI Day 10. Xi’an, Shanghai. Transfer to the airport and fly to Shanghai. On arrival, ride the high-speed Maglev train and watch the kilometres race

towards an exhilarating 300 kilometres. Once predominantly a fishing and textiles town, rapid growth has seen Shanghai transform into a globally significant metropolis. Check in to your hotel overlooking the Huangpu River. Beyond the crisp cool veneer, Shanghai's architectural heritage is like nowhere else. From Jesuit cathedrals, Jewish synagogues and Buddhist temples to homegrown lòngtáng laneways and shíkùmén housing, lift the lid to a treasure chest of architectural style with time at leisure. In the evening, enjoy a delicious meal of Chinese cuisine at the Dragon Phoenix restaurant. Alternatively, you may wish to head to the Langham Xintiandi Hotel’s signature restaurant, Ming Court. Or enjoy an exotic fusion menu at Zen Restaurant. Three Night Stay: Shanghai, Fairmont Peace Hotel. BLD Day 11. Shanghai. This morning, be joined by a local guide for an orientation tour through downtown Shanghai. Stop at the Oriental Pearl Tower and take an elevator to the viewing deck, where you will delight in panoramic views of the city. Standing at 468 metres high, it is one of the city’s tallest buildings and is brightly lit in different LED sequences at night. After lunch visit an authentic local silk factory for an insight into the history of Chinese silk manufacturing. This evening, after dinner at your leisure, enjoy premium seating at a thrilling acrobatic show. BL

Day 12. Shanghai. Choose your activity this morning. Perhaps cruise the Huangpu River through the heart of the city, then explore Yu Garden and enjoy a traditional Chinese tea ceremony. Regarded as one of the most lavish gardens in China, Yu Garden was built over a period of 20 years by Pan Yunduan who wanted to impress his father, a high-ranking official in the Ming Dynasty. Following your tour, sit down to a dim sum lunch. Alternatively you may prefer to take part in a hands-on cooking class, during which you will learn how to make Shanghai dumplings. Your final option is a full day excursion to Jinxi, an ancient water town. Although only an hour from bustling Shanghai, Jinxi is worlds away in pace and serenity. Less developed than other nearby water towns and largely untouched by tourism, Jinxi’s romantic charm is best appreciated during a guided walking tour. Wandering through the covered corridors along the Jinxi River, you’ll discover ancient bridges arching over the town’s many water alleys. Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant and time at leisure before returning to the city. This evening, savour a special Farewell Dinner with new friends at The Cathay Room in the Fairmont Peace Hotel, overlooking both the Bund and Huangpu River. BLD Day 13. Depart Shanghai. After breakfast this morning, transfer to the airport for your flight home. B

ARRIVE & EXPLORE JAPAN'S VIBRANT CAPITAL Day 1. Arrive Tokyo. Be met at the airport and transferred to your hotel. The rest of the day is yours to spend at leisure. Tonight, meet your APT Tour Director and fellow travellers for a Welcome Reception at the hotel. Three Night Stay: Tokyo, Prince Sakura Tower or similar. Day 2. Tokyo. After breakfast, set out for a morning tour of Tokyo. Due to its destruction during the 20th Century, admire Tokyo’s overwhelmingly modern architecture. This current urban landscape is one of the most modern and contemporary of its kind, where older buildings are scarce if any. Afterwards, be further captivated by the Imperial Palace East Gardens. The former site of the residence of the Tokugawa shogun who ruled Japan from 1603 to 1867, take a tour within Edo Castle’s innermost circles of defence and wander around the moats, walls, entrance gates and several guardhouses that still exist today. Later, enjoy the atmosphere of the Tokyo of past decades in the Asakusa centre of the shitamachi district. Walk around Asakusa’s

historic surroundings including the main attraction of Sensoji, a popular Buddhist temple built in the 7th century which is approached via the oldest shopping street in Japan – Nakamise-dori Street. After some time to look around you will transfer to a local restaurant before meeting Grandma Hiroko, where you'll discuss and appreciate the Japan of yesteryear and try your hand at cooking traditional cuisine. This evening, BLD head out for a Welcome Dinner. Day 3. Mt. Fuji, Hakone, Tokyo. Today you will enjoy a full day tour of Mount Fuji and Hakone. At 3,776 meters, Mount Fuji is Japan’s highest mountain. Worshipped as a sacred mountain throughout the centuries, this perfectly shaped active volcano stands on the border between Yamanashi and Shizuoka Prefectures and can be seen from Tokyo and Yokohama on a clear day. The tour begins at the Fuji Subaru Line 5th Station, which lies approximately at the halfway point of the Yoshida Trail, which leads from Fujiyoshida Sengen Shrine at the mountain’s base to the summit of Mount Fiji. It is the most popular of the four 5th stations and also offers a commanding view of the Fuji Five Lakes area. Later, embark on a sightseeing cruise around Lake Ashinoko,

formed in the caldera of Mount Hakone after the volcano’s last eruption some 3,000 years ago, before climbing Mount Komagatake aboard the Komagatake Ropeway aerial lift line. Be transferred back to Tokyo this evening for your choice of dining. BLD Day 4. Tokyo, Kanazawa. Enjoy breakfast at your hotel before boarding the refurbished Kagayaki (bullet train) from Tokyo to Kanazawa. Upon arrival at ‘Little Kyoto’, enjoy time at leisure to explore the old castle town before your choice of dinner at your hotel. Two Night Stay: Kanazawa, BD Hotel Nikko (or similar). Day 5. the 11.4 hectare Japanese Kenrokuen Gardens, located on the central heights and next to the Kanazawa Castle. Known for its scale and beauty, it is regarded as one of the most beautiful feudal lords’ gardens in Japan. Within the gardens, a large artificial pond can be found, as hills and houses dot across the grounds. Whilst here, take a tour of the Seisonkaku Villa which was built within the gardens in 1863. Here, take time to understand and appreciate the fine techniques used when building. For example, the inner pillars and walls often included a wooden panel with openwork carvings of flowers and birds, as did the coffered ceiling for the guest chamber. Then be captivated by the new-style art found within the 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art. Offering a differing take on conventional museums, the other-worldly UFO-shaped building exhibits experiment-type contemporary arts that visitors can openly interact with. Later, drive past the former residence of the samurai and their families in the Nagamachi district

before finishing the day at Kazue-machi, an old geisha district. Delight in the picturesque atmosphere of the wooden lattice fronts of old Geisha houses and restaurants, before taking a brief stroll around the area. Here, savour the view of the area from Asanogawa Ohashi Bridge. Look out upon the rows of historic chaya houses, which have been designated as a national cultural assets since 2008. This evening, enjoy dinner at BLD a local restaurant. Day 6. Kanazawa, Kyoto. Board the Thunderbird train service this morning, from Kanazawa to Kyoto. The fastest transfer possible between both cities, this high-speed train is a very popular option for both business and leisure travellers across Japan. Upon arrival in the afternoon, take time to leisurely explore Kyoto. Vibrant and colourful, Kyoto served as Japan’s capital and the emperor’s residence from 794 until 1868. Nowadays it is the country’s seventh largest city with a growing population of 1.4

million people. Due to its great historic value, the city was dropped from the list of target cities for the atomic bomb and spared from air raids during World War II. Enjoy time to walk amongst the countless temples, shrines and other historically priceless structures scattered throughout the city. In the evening, enjoy a Chado/Sado (Tea Ceremony), performed by a local Maiko (apprentice Geiko) or Geiko (Geisha). Within a delicate tatami tearoom, accompanied by Englishspeaking Kimono-clad servers, enjoy a memorable interaction with a Maiko. Five Night Stay: Kyoto, BD Hotel Okura or similar. Day 7. Kyoto, Osaka. After breakfast, set out on a guided tour of Osaka Castle and its surroundings. The largest castle of its time, Osaka Castle was built to become the centre of a new, unified Japan under Toyotomi Hideyoshi’s rule. Housing an informative museum of the castle’s and Toyotomi’s history, your tour

Kyoto, Kurashiki, Hiroshima, Kyoto. After a delicious breakfast, be transferred to Kurashiki this morning via train. An important point along the distribution route of Japan’s most vital commodity, rice, Kurashiki was put under direct control of the shogunate. Built to allow boats and barges to navigate between the city’s storehouses and nearby port, take time to explore the city’s intricate canal system in the Bikan Historical Quarter. Look out for weeping willow trees here that line the stone bridges that cross over the water. Later, be guided through to Hiroshima. Widely considered at the time as the political and commercial heart of Japan, Hiroshima was chosen as an ideal target for an atomic attack. When the first atomic bomb was dropped on August 6, 1945, the destructive power obliterated nearly everything within a two kilometer radius. Destroyed monuments of historical heritage were eventually reconstructed and

in the center of the city a large park was built and given a name that would reflect the aspirations of the re-born city: Peace Memorial Park. Spend the afternoon at the Peace Memorial Park and Atomic Bomb Dome. Here at the museum, observe displays left by victims, photos and other materials that convey the horror before and after the event. Be met by local volunteers to listen of their stories of survival, before visiting Sadako’s memorial in which paper cranes are hand-made to contribute. BL Day 9. Kyoto, Nara. Enjoy a morning at leisure before being transferred to Nara, the capital of Japan’s Nara Prefecture. Stop to admire Japan’s most famous and historically significant temple, Todaiji, before making way to the Kasuga Taisha shrine. Known as the 'Great Eastern Temple', Todaiji was constructed in 752 as the head temple of all provincial Buddhist temples of Japan. It grew so powerful that the capital was once moved from Nara to Nagaoka in 784 in order to lower the temple's influence on government affairs. Located in Nara Park, which also features several World Heritage Sites, temples, shrines, gardens and museums, you may

even meet one of the 1,200 wild deer that freely roam the grounds. Afterwards, travel to Osaka, formerly known as Naniwa and first ever capital of Japan. The third largest city in the country, Osaka has been the economic powerhouse of the Kansai region for many centuries. This evening, enjoy the local flavours with a choice in where to dine. BLD Day 10. Kyoto. Today, discover the attractions of the cultural capital of Japan on a full day tour. An ancient city with 1,200-years of history, Kyoto has always adopted the most advanced standards of the times and often greatly contributed to the nation’s industrial, economic and cultural development as well as strength. Built in 1603 and the residence of the first shogun of the Edo Period – Tokugawa leyasu, the tour starts at Nijo Castle. This five-story Tenshukaku (Castle Keep) is still arguably the best surviving example of castle palace architecture of Japan’s feudal era. Afterwards, visit the Zen temple of Kinkakuji, whose top two floors are completely covered in gold leaf. Built to echo the extravagant Kitayama culture that developed in the wealthy aristocratic circles, each floor represents a different

Hotels Hotel rooms in China are often smaller than those in Australia. In more remote places, hotel standards may not be quite as high as in major centres. APT endeavours to utilise the most suitable accommodation available in each destination to ensure that passengers enjoy high levels of cleanliness, comfort and service. The hotels listed in this brochure will be used on almost all holiday packages, however, if a change is necessary for any reason, APT will endeavour to ensure that alternative accommodation is of an equivalent standard to the hotels shown. Hotel rooms are generally not available for check-in before 3.00 pm and require check-out by 10.00 am. Twin or Double Rooms Accommodation in all hotels, regardless of the rating, is in standard

rooms (sometimes named superior/deluxe) based on twins or doubles unless otherwise stated. Cruising – Cabin/Suite/Stateroom Selection On your Mekong Cruise, APT will make every effort to assign specific cabins, cabin numbers or locations on the ship if requested. If this is not possible, APT reserves the right to make changes to cabin assignment, within the category booked, without prior notice. Pre-allocated cabins are not available on the Sanctuary Yangzi Explorer cruise on the Yangtze River in China. Passengers Needing Special Assistance APT welcomes passengers with disabilities or special needs provided they are accompanied by a companion capable of providing all necessary assistance. Any disability or medical condition requiring special attention must be reported to APT at the time of booking. APT will make reasonable efforts to accommodate the special needs of disabled passengers, but is not responsible for any denial of services by carriers, hotels, trains, restaurants or other independent suppliers, or for any additional associated expenses. Coaches and minibuses are not equipped with wheelchair ramps. River ships routinely dock mid-stream and require the use of tenders to access the shore. The RV Amalotus does not have elevators between decks and there are multiple stairs to each level. Suite doors and restrooms on river cruise ships are not wide enough to allow access by standard wheelchairs. Wheelchairs and walkers cannot be carried on coaches, due to space limitations. For safety reasons, passengers in wheelchairs cannot be carried on ramps in ports where the river cruise ship is at anchor. APT is unable to provide individual assistance to any passenger for walking, dining, disembarking or embarking cruise ships and/or coaches or other transportation vehicles or other personal needs. Health & Fitness A good level of fitness and health is required to participate on APT’s holiday packages. In some destinations there are extensive sightseeing excursions by foot which includes the climbing of stairs. Mobility is needed boarding or alighting coaches, river cruise ships and trains. We recommend a visit to the doctor before travelling to overseas destinations and consult with them regarding any vaccinations which may be required. It is your responsibility to advise APT of any pre-existing medical conditions that may affect the normal conduct of a holiday package and the enjoyment of other passengers. A Health, Fitness & Mobility Questionnaire will be provided and requested to be completed at the time of booking if you advise of any health, fitness or mobility Issues. APT is not liable for any injury, illness, or loss of enjoyment which could have been reasonably p0revented had we been made aware of a pre-existing condition and been provided an opportunity to review it. We will not be responsible for any costs associated with cancellation penalties or the return of passengers from a tour, and a refund for lost touring cannot be claimed. Altitude Sickness Also known as acute mountain sickness (AMS), altitude sickness is a condition caused by ascending to high altitudes. Itineraries that travel in the Yunnan Province visit Lijiang (2,400 meters above sea level) and Shangri-la (3,300 meters above sea level). Some people can experience some effect from these high altitudes, and may suffer mildly from AMS. Symptoms can include: headache, lack of appetite, nausea, fatigue or weakness, dizziness or lightheadedness. Symptoms can be reduced by ascending to higher altitudes slowly, which is how we have planned each itinerary. Please consult your doctor before departure. Visa & Passports All passengers must have a valid passport that is valid for at least six months after the holiday package return date. Passengers must consult with the appropriate consulates to ensure that they have any applicable visas for countries included in the holiday package prior to departure. Passengers are solely responsible for meeting necessary passport and visa entry requirements and paying all associated costs. APT is not responsible for delays or missed portions of the holiday package resulting from incorrect travel documents or visas. At the time of printing, the following applies: Passengers travelling to China are required to obtain a visa prior to departure from Australia. Passengers travelling to Vietnam must obtain a visa prior to departure from Australia. Cambodia - Passengers entering Cambodia while cruising from Saigon to Siem Reap are able to obtain a single entry visa for Cambodia onboard the RV AMALOTUS. For passengers flying into Cambodia to start their tour, a single entry Cambodian visa can be obtained at the airport on arrival. All passengers must be carrying two passport size photographs to obtain this their Cambodian visa. For passengers travelling on the Diamond Princess Japan cruise there will be a stop in Korsakov, Russia – standard escorted shore excursions in Korsakov from the Diamond Princess will not require passengers to obtain a visa. Passengers who intend to participate in their own arrangements in Korsakov will be required to obtain a Russian visa prior to departure. Shore Excursions The timing of the shore excursions on all river cruise ship holiday packages may differ slightly for each package. The published times

are a guide only and are subject to change without notice. It is impossible for large coaches to be used for some city sightseeing excursions and many towns and cities will be visited by way of walking tours and/or ox carts or similar. For river cruising, clients must be able to climb ramps to embark or disembark river cruise ships. Depending on river levels, these may have a number of steep steps. Freedom of ChoiceTM & Signature Invitation Excursions Minimum and maximum group numbers apply on some Freedom of Choice or Signature Invitation excursions. If your first choice of Freedom of Choice or Signature Invitation excursion is unavailable you may be asked to choose an alternative. Public Holidays & Festivals Virtually all countries have public holidays, religious or otherwise. The festivities may temporarily disrupt your holiday and some religious holidays may result in a reduction of facilities and entertainment. Late Bookings & Special Offers Many of the hotels and holiday packages included in our late bookings promotions or special offers are also featured in APT’s other main brochures and on its website. Late booking promotions and special offers do not apply to existing bookings unless otherwise stated. BOOKING & PAYING FOR YOUR HOLIDAY Airfares Air travel is arranged with independent airlines. APT will arrange air travel as advertised in connection with your holiday package or as otherwise arranged with APT. All airfares are subject to flight and booking class availability. Airfares will be booked and ticketed upon receipt of your deposit to avoid price or tax increases. Airport taxes vary for each departure point and routing of airline. Airline schedules are subject to change without notice. Once air tickets are issued, airline amendment and/or cancellation fees apply and, in some cases, are non-refundable. Name changes and voluntary date and schedule changes will incur fees. APT is not liable for delays or disruptions of air travel. Once tickets are issued, APT will have no other liability and will not be responsible for refunding the cost of any services booked in conjunction with the flights. Flying outside of the tour date range or re-routing your flight itinerary may incur additional surcharges. Flights within Asia Economy flights within in Asia and airport taxes are included in the price. All internal flights must be booked by APT. Airport taxes vary for each departure point and routing of airline. Airline schedules and fares are subject to change without notice. Flights will be based on best fare available at the time of booking, however surcharges may apply. Once air tickets are issued, airline amendment and/or cancellation fees apply and in some cases are non-refundable. Deposits are considered as a guarantee of the invoiced flight arrangements and once deposit received, flights will be ticketed. Name changes and voluntary date and schedule changes will incur fees. Out of Date Range Flights If airlines have not published their schedule at the time that this brochure was printed, or at the time of booking, APT will estimate the cost of airfares connected with your holiday package. When the airline releases flight inventory and airfares, APT will confirm seats and pricing with you by sending you an updated invoice. Once flights have been confirmed by you and payment has been received, APT will issue your ticket/s. Deposit Cancellation Peace of Mind (Page 13) Applicable when an upfront fee of $75 per person is paid with your deposit. The holiday package can be cancelled prior to the final payment date and your deposit will be retained as an APT holding credit to be used for future bookings. If Deposit Cancellation Peace of Mind is claimed, monies held must be used on a future cruise or tour and cannot be redeemed against the original cruise or tour departure date. Deposit held in credit will exclude fees imposed by third parties, including but not limited to air travel, rail travel and hotels. When booking airfares through APT (including when taking advantage of a special offer that includes air travel), standard airline cancellation fees will apply. In some cases, airfares will be non-refundable. In the event of cancellation, these fees will be deducted from the deposit paid, and therefore the credit being held. APT Deposit Cancellation Peace of Mind applies to new bookings only and is only valid up until 100 days prior to travel. After three years, unused credit funds will incur the original cancellation conditions as per brochure. This does not replace travel insurance, which we strongly recommend at the time of booking. Travel Insurance Travel Insurance is not included in your holiday package. For your protection we strongly recommend that you purchase comprehensive travel insurance that includes (without limitation) coverage for medical expenses, loss of luggage, cruise and land content and airfare charges that may occur due to cancellation, disruption, loss of deposit or strikes. Travel Information & Documents After booking you will receive an invoice with all important information relevant to your holiday package. We strongly recommend you check the details carefully and read the included information. Please ensure that you check your flight timings carefully on your tickets, particularly early morning departures. Approximately 21 days before departure you will receive your eticket, together with your final itinerary. However, in the case of late bookings, charges or late payment, tickets may be emailed to you. Special Requests Where a special request (eg. diet, room location, twin or double bedded room, a particular facility at a hotel, flight seat requests and/or particular meals) is an important factor in your choice of holiday, you must advise us when your booking is made. APT will pass your request on to the hotel, airline or other supplier but cannot guarantee that it will be accommodated. APT will also pass on any dietary requests to the airline but we strongly recommend that you check directly with the airline once your tickets have been issued.

GENERAL INFORMATION & CONDITIONS | 83 The provision of any special request does not constitute a term of your contract with us. Confirmation that a special request has been noted or passed on to the supplier or the inclusion of the special request on your confirmation invoice or any other documentation is not confirmation that the request will be met. Unless and until specifically confirmed, all special requests are subject to availability. Credit Card Surcharges If you pay APT by credit card, a surcharge of between 1% and 3% will be added your tour price. IF YOU WANT TO CHANGE OR CANCEL YOUR HOLIDAY Changes or Additions to Your Holiday If you want to change any part of your holiday arrangements after the invoice has been issued, we will do our best to make the change, but it may not be possible. Any request for changes must be made in writing by the person who made the original booking, or his or her travel agent. If it is possible to make the change, it will be subject to an administration charge and payment of any further costs incurred as a result of the change. Cancellation Policy For all holiday packages in this brochure, the following APT cancellation fees apply: Days of Notice: Fee Per Person 100 days or more Loss of deposit 99-61 days 50% of holiday package price 60 days or less 100% of holiday package price All cancellations must be received in writing by APT and are not effective until this notification has been received. If your holiday has commenced, 100% of the full holiday package price is charged. There is no refund for unused services or if portions of the holiday package are missed. Additional cancellation fees may also be charged in respect to accommodation reserved outside the holiday package dates. These cancellation fees are in addition to any fees that may be levied by APT and your travel agent (if any). You acknowledge that the amounts estimated under the Cancellation Policy are reasonable and represent a genuine pre-estimate of APT’s loss. If you request changes after APT has issued your documents, APT may charge you a fee of $70 per person in addition to any applicable cancellation fees. Cancellation of Ticketed Airfares An APT cancellation fee of $50 per person applies for ticketed airfares, in addition to any airline cancellation fees that are applicable. Changes to Ticketed Airfares If you wish to amend the date or routing on your ticketed air booking, an APT amendment fee of $30 per person for the first change and $85 for any subsequent changes will be charged in addition to airline change fees and additional taxes that are applicable. If you wish to amend an already issued Singapore Stopover package, a $30 per person APT change fee will apply along with any applicable airline fees. If, for any reason, a name change to a ticketed Airfare is required, a $125 per person name change fee will apply for every change in addition to any applicable airline fees. IF WE NEED TO CHANGE OR CANCEL YOUR HOLIDAY If we change or cancel your holiday before your departure APT endeavours to provide you with all the services confirmed to you at the time of your booking. However, we plan arrangements a long time in advance of your departure date using independent suppliers such as airlines, hotels etc., over whom we have no direct control. On occasions changes do have to be made, and APT reserves the right to cancel or amend holiday packages/excursions accordingly. All tours and cruises require a minimum number of bookings in order for the tour to be financially viable and to have a pleasant group atmosphere. In the event that adequate numbers cannot be achieved, it may be necessary to cancel a scheduled departure and offer the nearest possible alternative date (or a full refund of monies paid for arrangements made by APT). Brochure Accuracy APT has endeavoured to ensure that the information given in this brochure about accommodation, itineraries etc., is correct to the best of its knowledge at the time of going to print. However, advertised descriptions, facilities and prices may change after publication. We recommend that you confirm the details of your chosen holiday package at the time of booking. Additionally, flight times, carriers and routes in the brochure are given for guidance only as there may be changes. Final details will be shown on your tickets. Holiday package or excursion itineraries may change or be different from those described in the brochure as a result of local conditions, weather conditions and annual events. APT will endeavour to notify you of any significant changes prior to your departure. APT does not advise the flight timings in the brochure nor do we provide this on your documentation, only the 'nonincluded' flights will appear on the itinerary. Flight Changes The flight timings shown in our brochure, on our website and detailed on your confirmation invoice are for guidance only and are subject to alteration and confirmation. Flight timings are set by airlines and affected by events outside our control. Scheduled and charter flight timings, and days of operation are also subject to change. APT will advise you of any significant changes as soon as it is informed by the airline. Minor timing changes will be shown on your flight tickets. Any change in the identity of the airline, flight timings or aircraft type (if advised) to APT will not entitle you to cancel or change to other arrangements without paying any applicable cancellation fees except where specified in these booking conditions. Force Majeure Force Majeure means the occurrence of an event that is beyond APT’s reasonable control and which could not have been reasonably prevented by APT, which includes, but is not limited to: (a) war, armed conflict, criminal damage, riot, civil strife, industrial dispute, terrorist activity or the threat of any such acts; (b) natural disaster (including but not limited to flooding, fire, earthquake, landslide), adverse weather conditions, high or low water levels; (c) nuclear or other industrial accident causing environmental pollution or contamination; or (d) change in law, meaning,

enactment, amendment (including repeal) in the law or administration of any law in Australia or any jurisdiction or territory relevant to the booking contract, which includes changes in statute, regulation, determination, by-law, declaration, licence and the common law as applicable from time to time. Termination of Booking Contract or Change of Travel Arrangements due to Force Majeure If APT, in its reasonable opinion, considers that any Force Majeure event prevents APT (whether directly or through its employees, contractors, subcontractors and agents) from lawfully or safely providing any products or services subject of the booking contract with you, APT may immediately by written notice: (a) terminate the booking contract (in whole or in part); or (b) change your travel arrangements as reasonably practicable to ensure your safety and invoice you for any additional costs. Limitation of Liability in the Event of Force Majeure In the event that APT cancels or changes your travel arrangements in any way due to a Force Majeure event, APT will not be liable to you in contract, tort, statute or restitution for any loss (including, but not limited to, loss of deposit or purchase price and loss of enjoyment), damage, costs, charges, expenses or injury resulting from or in connection with (whether directly or indirectly): (a) the cancellation or change to your travel arrangements; or (b) the Force Majeure event. APT is not liable to refund any part of the deposit or purchase price paid by you if APT subsequently changes or cancels your travel arrangements in connection with a Force Majeure event. Force Majeure events are unpredictable and beyond APT’s control. It is your responsibility to purchase travel insurance to adequately protect yourself against such risks. ON HOLIDAY Noise & Vibration APT takes reasonable steps to minimise noise and vibrations on its river cruise ships. You acknowledge and accept that some noise and vibration may be experienced on vessels and that APT is not liable to you for any such noise or vibration. Docking Position During port stops river cruise ships may dock side by side, obstructing views and requiring you to pass through other ships to embark or disembark. Mekong River ships will moor overnight midstream during most cruising times, rather than dock at a port. Local Purchases APT is not responsible for any items you may purchase locally i.e.: jewellery/furniture etc. You acknowledge that you are solely responsible for any import duty or freight costs. Personal Belongings & Lost Items For security reasons valuables should be kept to a minimum and packed in your hand luggage along with your medicines, camera, film, electrical or battery operated appliances, as well as basic essentials such as a change of clothing and toiletries. It is your responsibility to look after your property at all times and you must ensure you are adequately covered by comprehensive travel insurance in the event of any loss. Disruption to Cruising & Itinerary Arrangements Under normal operating conditions itineraries will be delivered as per the brochure. However, sometimes for reasons beyond our control, it may be necessary to make alterations to your itinerary. On occasion, significant flooding or low water levels do occur that can cause disruption to itineraries and may lead to early disembarkation. We recommend you take out comprehensive travel insurance that includes coverage of events such as these, as we will not be liable for any direct or indirect costs incurred as a result of such events or other factors beyond our control happening. Additionally, you are not entitled to any refund for any alterations to your itinerary that are caused or contributed to by any flood or water level events or other such events which are beyond our control. Mekong River Cruise: Low water in the Mekong River from mid June to mid August and December to April may cause disruptions to cruising. If the water level in Tonle Sap Lake is shallow at anytime, access is restricted. An alternative route operates from Prek K’dam to Siem Reap or vice -versa. Disembark at Prek K’dam and transfer to Siem Reap by coach (five hours), stopping at Kampong Thom. Low water in Cambodia in March and April may cause disruption to cruising. Due to climate & low water levels, visits to Kampong Chhnang may be replaced by a visit to Xeo Quyt. This change means an extra day in Vietnam, and thus a one-day reduction in the Cambodian cruise program. If there is a water level problem it may be necessary to operate part of the Itinerary by coach. A revised cruising itinerary and alternative sightseeing maybe required. Published itineraries are indicative only and subject to alterations and delays at short notice, though every effort will be made to ensure that the published itinerary is followed as closely as possible. The ship's manager and captain are jointly responsible for passengers' comfort and safety. Therefore, passengers must accept their decisions and instructions. APT will not be liable for any direct or indirect costs that you incur as a result of any event or other factor beyond our control which necessitates a change in your itinerary. Additionally, you are not entitled to any refund for any alterations to your itinerary that are caused or contributed to by any flood or water level events or such other events which are beyond our control. APT cannot guarantee exact arrival and departure times for carriers and operators used by APT and APT will not be liable for failure to make connections with any other services or attractions beyond its control. ON RETURN FROM YOUR HOLIDAY Data Protection Policy Any personal information (including sensitive information and health information) that APT obtains and retains from you or about you is necessary for our business purposes. Our Privacy Policy details why we collect this information, who we may disclose it to (including overseas recipients), and the main consequences if we do not collect it. Our Privacy Policy also contains information about how you may seek access to, or correction of, the personal

Harassment of any kind toward crew, contracted suppliers or other guests may result in immediate removal from the tour or cruise. APT is not liable to you for any costs associated with such decision and you will not be refunded for any part of the holiday package. 3. Your travel agent will forward deposits and other payments to us on your behalf, but your travel agent is not our agent for the purpose of receipt of monies. Receipt of deposits and subsequent payments by the travel agent does not constitute receipt of those monies by us and the travel agent has no authority expressed or implied to receive monies on our behalf. There is no liability on the part of APT in respect to any monies paid to your travel agent unless and until APT notifies you (by way of a booking confirmation advice or payment receipt advice) that monies have been received by APT.
