REACH NEW HEIGHTS: The walk over the rope bridges at the Penny Royal Adventure Park offers magnificent views over Launceston.

I

f you’re thinking about holidaying at home during the spring break Launceston’s Penny Royal Adventures is the perfect place to enjoy a funfilled day. Open seven days from 9am, the Penny Royal adventure park features everything from zip lines and gold panning and cliff walks, to the eerie Matthew Brady Dark Ride.

Also on the spooky side the park is currently celebrating Halloween until the end of October. To mark the celebration the park is currently home to a huge pumpkin jumping castle, scores of jack-o’-lanterns and several spooky rides. In addition, visitors of all ages can enjoy Halloween ‘heebie-jeebies’ fun, including spooky storytelling, pumpkin

carving as well as a doughnut eating competition. If that doesn’t take your fancy visitors can jump aboard the animatronic Mathew Brady Dark Ride and take a step back in time to the days of the daring escapades of the notorious bushrangers who roamed Tassie in the 1800s. The Penny Royal is the perfect place to spend a day learn-

ing about the colonial history of Van Diemen’s Land while enjoying great food, wine and the many cliff and park adventures on site. Visitors can also enjoy the cliff walk over a dozen rope bridges which feature magnificent views of the city of Launceston. Daredevils can then ride the zip lines that propel you

100m across the grounds or take a plunge from the 20m cliff jump for the ultimate adrenalin rush. Children and adults can also climb the outdoor cliffs using auto-belays while others watch on, enjoying a quiet lunch or glass of wine from the adjacent wine bar deck. There are a number of cafes, bars and restaurants on site as

acts. Over three nights, from October 11-13, Papillon will mesmerise and entertain with a fast-paced show of skills and humour. The performance includes balancing acts, trapeze and high-wire stunts, live music and songs, juggling, comedy and so much more. Perfect fun for the whole family, the show was created around classic archetypes of vintage circus, bringing timehonoured circus discipline into a sophisticated show for child-

ren and grown-ups alike. Papillon has made quite an impact on festivals and audiences nationwide, consistently surprising audiences with personal touches including funny, silly and absurd moments, combined with the beautiful and spectacular circus routines and unique bespoke music. With its delicate blend of acrobatics, sideshow, comedy and song, the performance exudes glamour from the outset with gorgeous costumes, slick production and beautiful rou-

tines. In 2014, Papillon was named winner of Best Circus & Physical Theatre Show at the Adelaide Fringe Weeklies. Papillon is a great school holiday treat, recommended for children 12 years and over. In Hobart for only three nights, don’t miss out on a chance to witness this special circus event at the Theatre Royal. Children’s tickets begin at $30 and adults from $40. Let the good times roll

W

ith school holidays just around the corner now is the time to start thinking about the many things you can do right here in Tassie to keep the kids entertained. A great way to explore or make your way to holiday activities is the bus. Kids can climb aboard a Metro bus with friends or family on the way to holiday fun and sit up high to watch the world wiz by. There’s so much to see from the big bus windows from fancy cars, and interesting people to local landmarks. Touch on with a Metro Greencard, find a comfy seat, keeping the seats for pregnant and elderly people clear, and keep an eye out for your stop. The destinations are endless when you take the bus. One place the bus might take you is Sandy Bay, where children aged 7-12 can join in the Royal Yacht Club of Tasmania’s Tackers One and Two learn to sail programs. Children don’t need any prior sailing experience or a

club membership to join in the fun. All equipment is provided so children can turn up, meet new friends and enjoy a day sailing on the River Derwent. The Tackers One program, from October 3-6, is designed for beginners to have fun as they sail in pairs. Tackers Two, is held from October 9-12, and is designed for children who are confident to sail a boat on their own under support and supervision. Takers Two is more suited to those with some sailing experience who wish to learn a few more advanced techniques and tricks. Learn to sail programs are $270 each and information and bookings are available at www.ryct.org.au/tackers. The yacht club is also running coaching sessions for children qualified to sail lasers and 29ers, from October 9-12. For more action-packed fun families can also take a drive down to Huonville and board a Huon Jet Boat for a thrilling 12km ride on the breathtaking Huon River.

Swim & Survive

The jet boat departs every hour between 9am and 4pm, seven days a week and tickets are for $58 for children and $80 for adults. Children will be thrilled by the high speed spins and tight turns, while mum and dad might have a greater appreciation for the natural beauty of
