Grants Awarded

License Plate Reader (LPR) Three LPR mobile automatic license plate recognition (ALPR) systems were funded through a grant from the Criminal Justice Division of the Office of the Governor (CJD) through the Houston-Galveston Area Council (H-GAC).

K9’s 4 Cops The Police Department was awarded a 3rd grant through K9’s 4 Cops. Officer Stephen Deliphose and his new partner, Samu, join the other two K-9s already obtained through K-9’s 4 Cops.

Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) The Police Department has been awarded the Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) in the amount of $50,000.00 dollars from the Office of the Governor for the purchase of a Mobile Surveillance Trailer.

Selective Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP)

The Police Department received approximately $45,000.00 from the Texas Department of Transportation to step up enforcement of traffic laws inside the city. The grant is part of a TxDOT program called STEP, or Selective Traffic Enforcement Program.

The Police Department was recently awarded a Department of Justice grant in the amount of $14,794. This grant helps agencies to offset the cost of purchasing bulletproof vests for their officers.

Department of Justice Grant

The Police Department, recently received a grant for $13,165.00 for rifle resistant body armor. These funds will Office be used to replace SWAT vests that are due to expire this of the Governor year. This grant is funded through the state by the Office of the Governor. The Police Department was recently awarded a grant of $5,000 from the Texas Department of Transportation to increase occupant restraint use in all passenger vehicles and trucks. This grant is part of a TxDOT program called CIOT, or Click It or Ticket.
