GENERAL SESSIONS with Heidi St. John

Themes we’ll be exploring through various workshops and breakout sessions as we Come Away this weekend… The Secret in the Sunset - Come Away and learn how to develop an attitude of gratitude, laying hold of the special treasures and moments hidden within your sometimes-overwhelming daily life. Learn how to hang onto those special gifts and let them strengthen your heart in the midst of the chaos. Restful Relationships - “No Drama, Mama!” Come Away and learn to blunt the strife and struggle that can bring unwanted drama into your relationships. The Lord wants you to find peace in the most important relationships that surround you. Discover the “Rest” found in the middle of the “wRESTling” that describes our closest relationships at times.  Just as I Am - Come Away with the Lord now. In this PinterestPerfect world where everyone Pins their Perfect Life it’s all too easy to hold the Lord at arm’s length until we “get our act together.” The truth is, He wants you now,  just as you are, Busy Mom. Learn the secret of developing an intimate spiritual life now- not later.

BREAKOUT SESSIONS

Parenting in an Internet Age - Helicopter parents, snow-shovel parents, rigid disciplinarians or your kids best friend? There are 100 theories on parenting but we want you to help you determine what the Lord is asking of you, in your unique situation with your children. Finding the balance between theory and practice as we raise our children to serve the Lord is a challenge every Christian mom faces. Homeschooling - For those who have chosen homeschooling we’ll be sharing from our collective experience about ways to smooth the sometimes strained balance between parent and teacher while you help your children develop the self-discipline and self-motivation to walk out their unique purpose in the Lord. The Distracted Mom - Learning to be present for your husband and children as you focus on what’s truly important rather than what clamors the loudest. Discernment is essential in the all-too-crazy world we live in today as we learn to sort the essential from the urgent. The Power of a Praying Grandmother with Jerry St. John and Jane Lambert - Are you a grandmother or getting ready to make the transition into grandparenting? Hear real world wisdom from two grandmothers who have 15 grandchildren between them as they share how to pray for your children and your grandchildren- even if the situation may look discouraging. Faith is perhaps the least appreciated skill that every mother and grandmother needs! When Life Hurts with Pastor Allen and Joyce Kvalvik - in this very intimate session, we will be talking about the different faces of grief. If you have experienced the loss of a child, particularly miscarriage or a stillborn, we hope you’ll attend. This session will not be recorded.

EVENING DISCUSSIONS

iMom - Join Heidi and the Busy Mom Writers for some honest talk about the dark side of a media-mad world in which both children and parents are all-too-often in the same room yet worlds apart as their brains are engaged in FaceBook, Pinterest, Twitter, cell phones, pads, pods and all things “I”. Great for blogging moms! What He’s Really Thinking with Jay St. John, Steve Lambert, Allen Kvalvik and Ryan Bates: Honest talk from four husbands in different seasons of marriage. Moderated (in Busy Mom style) by Heidi St. John Creating a Remembrance Marker - Join the staff at The Busy Mom as we put together a special gift and talk about the importance of creating “markers” in our lives. Don’t miss this unique opportunity!

She retired a few years ago from her job as an office manager and now devotes her time to caring for her husband and encouraging her family. He serves on the board of directors of Firmly Planted Family and brings his diverse experience as a husband, father, grandfather, pastor and entrepreneur to every conversation. Steve has an uncanny ability to cut through the fog and anxiety of living in today’s fast-paced world, reminding young parents of the eternal truths that bring peace and hope in the midst of chaos. Funny, passionate and articulate, Steve loves encouraging people. JAY ST. JOHN Jay has spent most of his life in full-time ministry. As a worship pastor, he has a passion for leading God’s people before the Throne in worship. His years of experience in leadership have provided the foundation for Firmly Planted Family Ministries, a parachurch ministry that encourages and equips parents as they seek to build stronger marriages and to disciple their children. Jay and his wife, Heidi, have been married for 25 years, have 7 children and recently became grandparents!

Heidi St. John has been married to her husband Jay since 1989. They have seven children ages 2 to 21 and have homeschooled all the way through high school. A popular radio guest, blogger, author and conference speaker, Heidi approaches mothering with humor and grace at events across North America and Europe.   Her passion to encourage homeschool moms and set them free to be who God has created them to be will bless and encourage you. Heidi is the author of “The Busy Homeschool Mom’s Guide to Romance: Nurturing Your Marriage Through the Homeschool Years” and “The Busy Homeschool Mom’s Guide to Daylight.” Together, Jay and Heidi are also authors of the popular reflective, integrated family Bible Study program “Firmly Planted,” designed to walk both parents and children through the Word of God in a way that can change lives. Heidi and her husband Jay are also the founders and executive directors of Firmly Planted Family Ministries, a parachurch organization dedicated to helping parents strengthen their marriages and disciple their children in the Word of God both individually, and through homeschool co-ops.
