leslie stoner I paint with encaustic, which allows me to slow down my thoughts and reflect inward. My materials include beeswax, powder pigments, oil and tree resin. Fire is my preferred paintbrush. My paintings are about human emotions— fears, anxieties and self-doubt. The imagery is rooted in abstracted nature; about what lies beneath and what floats above, with an emphasis on where the two meet.

My work is an amalgamation from a lifetime of observing nature and the human form. I am particularly interested in making work that provokes thought as well as creating a sense of mystery. The wood fire process promotes that sense of mystery through the surfaces achieved by heat, flame pattern, and ash.

There are also glass vessels with winged glass paddles. There will be a variety of art work and styles. I will also be signing my various books. “The Little House that Grew” and “Thoughts”.

As a weaver, spinner, felter, and “mother” of 20 alpacas, I have the opportunity to explore the amazing world of fiber arts – from warmly textured woven wools, to light and airy hand dyed silks, to hand-painted and handspun yarns - my world is alive with inspiration and my studio is a laboratory of experimentation and creation – always something new.

I am an intuitive abstract painter and teaching artist working in acrylic, encaustic, and mixed media. My paintings and workshops explore dynamic relationships between light, vibrant transparent color, and rich texture.

I will be showing a series of abstract paintings based on a Gustav Mahler symphony, an abstract series of garden paintings, and a group of primitive/ figurative paintings. Many of the works will also have collaged elements. And, in addition, there may be some surprises.

42 Painting is an exploration. Whether I’m painting an abstraction or en plein air, painting is solving a puzzle. I make a mark and it creates a problem that will need to be solved with the next mark. The next mark creates a new problem. And so I work until I can find no more

problems to solve. My subject matter relates to nature and my love of making marks.

My work is primarily figurative, and often inspired by a vintage photo or postcard. The paintings are embellished with decorative papers, fabrics, jewelry, bits of nature - or anything that catches my fancy. Stylistically, my artwork is illustrative and influenced by the iconography of the Byzantine Era.

In motion, there is life. Art comes alive when it is allowed to move. I work to bring in light, shadows and the interplay of color into each unique sculpture. Paper, color and texture are the basis of my 2D art. Utilizing pastels, paint and line, my creations are abstract renderings of the events and experiences of everyday life.
