Commission Announces 2010 Arts and History Local Grant Awards A total of 34 (10 historical and 24 arts) grants have been awarded to (30) Ocean County arts and heritage organizations towards programs and projects in 2010.

The following heritage organizations received a total of $11,354 in grant awards from Ocean County Cultural & Heritage Commission’s Local History Program Grant towards General Operating or Special Project Support in FY 09/10: Barnegat Historical Society, Barnegat; Brick Township Historical Society, Brick; Island Heights Cultural & Heritage Association; Long Beach Island Historical Association, Beach Haven; Ocean County Library; Township of Toms River; Tuckerton Borough Landmarks Commission, Tuckerton; Vintage Automobile Museum of New Jersey, Manchester; & the Waretown Historical Society, Waretown.

Grants have been awarded by a highly competitive, peer reviewed process. The grants have been made possible by funds from the New Jersey Historical Commission. The funding will be used to foster local and New Jersey history in area historical societies and heritage groups. The following arts organizations received a total of $62,000 in grant awards from the Ocean County Cultural & Heritage Commission’s Local Arts Program Grant towards General Operating or Special Project support in 2010:

Brick Children’s Community Theatre, Brick Township Municipal Alliance Committee, and Brick Township Recreation Department; Community Chorus of Ocean County College, Toms River; Georgian Court University, Lakewood; The Island Singers, Ship Bottom; Lakewood Economic Action Program; Lakewood Township Recreation Department (2 projects); Laurelton Art Society, Brick; Lighthouse International Film Festival, Barnegat Light; Little Egg Theatre Company, Little Egg Harbor; Manchester Township, Murray Grove Association, Lanoka Harbor; New Jersey Institute for Disabilities, Toms River; Ocean County Artists’ Guild, Island Heights; Ocean County College Theatre Company, Toms River; Ocean County Library, Toms River; Ocean County YMCA, Toms River; Our Gang Players, Manahawkin; Pine Shores Art Association, Manahawkin; Plumsted Township Council on the Arts, Plumsted; the Teen Center for Education and Opportunity, Lakewood; Toms River Business Development Corporation; and World Changing Awareness, Bayville.

The Local Arts Program Grant is made possible through funding from the New Jersey State Council on the Arts/ Department of State, a partner agency of the National Endowment of the Arts. Each year, the Commission offers funding, through a competitive application process, to Ocean-County based non-profit arts and non-arts organizations, units of local government, and institutions of higher education seeking to provide arts programming and services to the public.
