Commission Announces 2011 Arts and History Local Grant Awards A total of 24 (9 historical and 15 arts) grants have been awarded to Ocean County arts and heritage organizations towards programs and projects in 2011. Grants have been awarded by a highly competitive, peer reviewed process. The following heritage organizations received a total of $12,503 in grant awards from Ocean County Cultural & Heritage Commission’s Local History Program Grant towards General Operating or Special Project Support in FY 10/11: Barnegat Historical Society; Brick Township Historical Society; Lacey Township Historical Society; Georgian Court University; Long Beach Island Historical Association; Stafford Township Historical Society; Vintage Automobile Museum of New Jersey; and the Waretown Historical Society. The grants have been made possible by funds from the New Jersey Historical Commission. The funding will be used to foster local and New Jersey history in area historical societies and heritage groups. ******************************************************** The following arts organizations received a total of $55,000 in grant awards from the Ocean County Cultural & Heritage Commission’s Local Arts Program Grant towards General Operating or Special Project support in 2011: Beach Haven Community Arts Program; Brick Children’s Community Theatre, Brick Township Municipal Alliance Committee, and Brick Township Recreation Department; Community Chorus of Ocean County College; Georgian Court University; The Guild Theater Works; The Island Singers; Manchester Township; Ocean County Artists’ Guild; Ocean County College Theatre Company; Ocean County Library; Ocean County YMCA; Our Gang Players; Pine Shores Art Association; Ship Bottom Recreation Department; and Toms River Business Development Corporation. The Local Arts Program Grant is made possible through funding from the New Jersey State Council on the Arts/ Department of State, a partner agency of the National Endowment of the Arts. These grants are given to local groups in order to support, promote and develop the arts in Ocean County. Each year, the Commission offers funding, through a competitive application process, to Ocean-County based non-profit arts and non-arts organizations, units of local government, and institutions of higher education seeking to provide arts programming and services to the public.
