About the Freedom Fund The Freedom Fund (www.freedomfund.org) is the world’s first private donor fund dedicated to identifying and investing in the most effective frontline efforts to end modern slavery. It: • generates private funding by demonstrating how effective interventions can protect those at risk of being enslaved and free those in slavery. • invests in those countries and sectors with the greatest incidence of slavery. • analyses which interventions work best, and shares that knowledge. • brings together a community of activists committed to ending slavery and empowered by the knowledge of how best to do so. The Fund commenced in January 2014. It now operates programs in Northern India, Southern India, Ethiopia, Thailand, Southern-Eastern Nepal and Central Nepal. It currently provides funding and support to over one hundred NGOs around the world. It has over $50m pledged of the $100m it seeks to raise by 2020. The organisation is headquartered in London, UK, and also has an office in Manhattan, New York. About the position After advertising this position in February of this year, we were fortunate to fill the role with a short-term placement from a close colleague of the Freedom Fund. As foreseen, the incumbent will be leaving to move overseas and we are now seeking to fill the role permanently. Reporting to the Managing Director, North America, the Communications Manager will work closely with the Freedom Fund team to enhance the profile of the Freedom Fund and to align its public communications to the broader objectives of the organisation, with approximately 20% of time spent supporting key fundraising and partnership initiatives. Key responsibilities Specifically the Communications Manager will: • Develop and execute a comprehensive communications and media plan for the Freedom Fund with the support of other team members • Manage the production of external-facing collateral material, including brochures, reports and publications, so that the Freedom Fund’s work is effectively articulated

• Manage the Freedom Fund’s social media accounts, including Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn • Manage the Freedom Fund’s e-communications, including drafting and publishing emails to distribution lists, so that e-communications meet the highest standard • Work with outside vendors to execute updates to the Freedom Fund’s website; • Prepare strategic communications materials, including media releases, media plans and opinion pieces; • Proactively monitor the news cycle • Maintain and oversee the Freedom Fund’s brand guidelines • Where needed, work with Freedom Fund donors and partners to effectively promote their support of the Freedom Fund • Support key fundraising initiatives, such as salons and donor convenings, establishing innovative ways to share the story of the Freedom Fund’s impact at a wide range of events • Represent the Freedom Fund in a variety of public contexts, being able to articulate the organization’s mission and impact • Build relationships with current and prospective investors, being able to effectively communicate funding opportunities • Create and update communications materials, both print and digital, to promote and share about the work of the Freedom Fund to a variety of audiences.   Qualifications and experience • Strong copywriting and editing skills, up to a standard required for publications, strategic reports, and social media • Ability to undertake basic tasks to manage the Freedom Fund’s website updates, using WordPress or a similar platform • Ability to produce and manage media releases, including preparing briefs for key media contacts • An entrepreneurial track record, with an ability to think outside the box and develop new ideas, initiatives and strategies • Experience in transforming content to suit a variety of formats • An understanding of media hooks, PR opportunities, and media landscape analysis, including an ability to judge and implement tactics and campaigns that will attract local, national and international press attention • Excellent planning, project management and organizational skills, so as to manage multiple priorities at once, while also retaining a thorough attention to detail • Ability to develop key relationships and strategic partners, around both communications or fundraising opportunities • Ability to clearly and powerfully articulate and communicate the Freedom Fund’s mission, business model, and work in a wide variety of contexts • Strong IT skills, including a familiarity with email marketing platforms • At least three years of experience in a professional environment. Experience in the international development or human rights sector would be highly valued, as well as some partnership experience, though neither is essential to be considered • Bachelor’s degree Key personal attributes • A commitment to the Freedom Fund’s vision, mission, values and goals, with a passion to work in promoting human rights around the world • A willingness to work as part of a team in a cooperative and supportive way • A commitment to excellence and a relentless pursuit of results, with an exceptional work ethic, strong organisational skills and a can-do attitude

• An entrepreneurial drive and exceptional attention to detail • A willingness to undertake careful planning, and to manage multiple activities under pressure and with high levels of precision • Ability to make critical judgments, solve problems and to be resourceful Compensation • Salary will be USD$70,000 per annum (requests to pro-rate salary over four days per week would be considered) • 25 days holiday pro rata, plus public holidays • 10% non-contributory pension scheme • Generous health insurance scheme • Some time flexibility may be discussed for family circumstances or to allow for seniority of candidates Application procedure Applications should be submitted in English, and include a CV, cover letter (maximum one page) and contact details of three personal and/or professional referees.
