COMMUNITY ENGAGMENT MANAGER Pay Grade: 10 (Exempt) The Community Engagement Manager works in collaboration with and under the supervision of the director to cultivate relationships and form partnerships in the Skokie community. This department manager oversees the work of a talented team focused on listening to, learning from, and connecting with members of the community in order to create responsive solutions addressing Skokie’s aspirations and needs. Aspects of the Community Engagement department include services to local schools (including preschools) and childcare centers, health services, services to immigrants and refugees, business services, senior services, bookmobile services, and services to youth and adults with disabilities. Minimum Qualifications: (education, experience, and certifications) • MLS degree from an ALA accredited library school OR relevant experience and study • Experience in building and managing community partnerships • Experience in facilitating group discussions, networking, and public speaking Minimum Competencies: (knowledge, skills, and abilities) • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills • Broad cultural competency knowledge and skills, and ability to work effectively with a culturally diverse workforce and community • Demonstrated commitment to the pursuit of equity, diversity, and inclusion • Ability to see the big picture and think strategically about the library’s involvement in the community • Ability to develop and maintain strong working relationships with colleagues and community members • Ability to motivate, inspire, and lead direct reports and other colleagues • Ability to anticipate and creatively solve problems with a flexible mindset • Ability to work independently and oversee multiple initiatives while meeting deadlines • Strong facilitation, networking, and public speaking skills • Deep personal commitment to public service Preferred Qualifications: • Three years of increasingly responsible experience in public libraries, social work, education, and/or community organizing, including supervisory experience • Awareness of and experience working in or with public libraries • Familiarity and experience with using the Harwood Institute for Public Innovation model of community engagement Preferred Competencies: • Familiarity with Skokie and existing relationships within the community (e.g. civic leaders, community leaders/influencers) • Project management abilities • Organizational skills with attention to detail • Strong analytical skills and ability to make data-driven decisions

Essential Functions: • Provides leadership through participation on library’s management team and supervision of Community Engagement departmental staff • Engages with community leaders and members in order to establish sustainable relationships with key community partners • Shares information about the community’s aspirations and needs with colleagues across the library and community partners • Aligns community engagement efforts with the mission, vision, and goals of the library Represents Skokie Public Library at key community events and meetings, which • may include some evenings and weekends Solicits sponsorship and grant proposals for community initiatives • • Assists with strategic planning processes and the design and implementation of annual objectives • Hires, manages, trains, and reviews performance of staff • Collaborates with members of administration and management team to ensure successful library operations and services; assists in development of policies • Contributes to public services in the library at public service areas and in the community Builds knowledge about community resources available to the public • • Maintains current knowledge of library and other relevant fields (e.g., education, social work, business, health) Prepares quarterly and annual reports for administration and Board of Trustees • Other Functions: • May serve as Librarian-in-Charge • Performs other related duties as assigned Physical/Mental Demands and Environmental Conditions: • Reasonable accommodations to these requirements will be made as needed • Ability to perform office-related functions including extended concentration on a computer and typing capability • Work may include prolonged sitting and standing • Manual dexterity, clear speech, hearing acuity, and correctable vision are required • Noise level is generally moderate • Scheduling may require availability during any library operating hours, including days, evenings, weekends, and occasionally when the library is closed.
