Community Engagement Specialist Location: New York City Timeline: Asap - August 2016 (with possibility of future work) Details: Part time employment (20hrs/week) with competitive salary, compensation and the opportunity for a future full time position with benefits What We Do: Fair Care Labs generates ideas and solutions that make work better for nannies, caregivers, and cleaners. As the social innovation arm of the National Domestic Workers Alliance (NDWA), one of the country’s most dynamic and successful social change organizations, Fair Care Labs is charged with experimenting with new ideas, building partnerships with the private sector and launching sustainable business ventures that will create a fairer future for the care industry. Alia, the newest technology platform to emerge from Fair Care Labs, will revolutionize work for thousands of domestic workers across the country and help undo legacies of generational racism and sexism that have shaped the industry for decades. Alia draws from the best that new tech labor platforms and apps, like Uber and Airbnb, have to offer, but infuses a social mission and dedication to dignity and fairness to the millions of domestic workers in the USA. The Alia platform is the socially responsible way to pay the house cleaner you trust and finally allows house cleaners to enjoy the benefits that most of us take for granted in our jobs. For just a couple dollars more per each cleaning, house cleaning clients can ensure that their house cleaners receive life changing benefits like healthcare, sick days, disability insurance, retirement, and more benefits that have been out of reach for generations. What You’ll Do: As a Community Engagement Specialist, you’ll have a rare opportunity to organize, facilitate and develop a vibrant community of workers as a part of one of the most innovative labor efforts in the country in the past 25 years. Your responsibilities will include: ● ● ●

Growing the community of workers using the Alia platform during initial expansion in NYC through a variety of online and offline movement building and marketing strategies. Supporting workers to ensure success with the Alia platform, including equipping them with the strategy, assets, and confidence to introduce the platform to their employers. Advising the curriculum development and training execution during in-person and online worker training sessions.

Who We’re Looking For:

You are ambitious, focused and hard-driving in your pursuit raising standards for domestic workers. You love the challenge of finding new ways of doing things, not just replicating existing strategies. You’ve got organizer smarts and a genuine curiosity about people’s stories, interests, and dreams. You’re empathically patient and can easily slide into somebody else’s shoes. You like to build things from the ground up. You treat workers with respect. You have significant experience working independently and on a team. You know how to ask for help when you’re spinning your wheels. You’re okay with a little bit of ambiguity. You raise disagreements agreeably. You are comfortable with virtual communication and supervision. You are organized, thoughtful, and fun to be around. You want to win. You must: ● Live in NYC ● Have least 3 years of organizing, training, or comparable experience ● Be fluent in English and Español
