Angel Field Creative Campus Angel Field, at the Creative Campus, is no ordinary garden. Inspired by the gardens of the Renaissance and emblematic both of the University’s educational philosophy and its Christian foundations, Angel Field offers a place for relaxation and reflection. The garden is designed in sections, creating a sense of flow and space. Quotations skilfully set into stone feature among the flowers and shrubbery and evoke the theme of each area. Origins is a belt of woodland with a circular pool and the words of St Thomas Aquinas: “Nothing is in the intellect that was not first in the senses.” The Body is an apple orchard set in a small area of wildflower meadow. On scattered stones are the words of Pied Beauty, by local poet-priest Gerard Manley Hopkins, who worked at St. Francis Xavier Church, which overlooks the garden, in the 1880s. The Mind features a performance area surrounded by hedges, pom-pom pines and a fountain rimmed with Shakespeare’s immortal lines: “All the world’s a stage/And all the men and women merely players.” The Soul is a cloister adjacent to the Cornerstone Building. A modern angel sculpture that glows of an evening stands guard and can be seen through the feature windows in the Great Hall and mezzanine. Angel Field provides a fantastic backdrop for fashion shoots and live performances, as well as being perfect for wedding photography. If you are interested in holding an event in Angel Field, please contact us and we will be happy to discuss your requirements.
