OCTOBER 2016

Calgary Catholic celebrates new school openings Calgary Catholic was pleased to open the doors of the brand-new Our Lady of Grace School on September 6. This K–9 school with a capacity for 900 students is serving residents of the northwest community of Evanston. The school features innovative, high-tech learning spaces as well as an outdoor amphitheater. Congratulations to Principal Judy Yurchuk, staff, students and families for coming together on a smooth new school start-up!

Prince of Peace School, a K–9 school serving the southeast community of Auburn Bay will be ready on October 11. We know staff and students are looking forward to teaching and learning in their brand-new building! Two additional schools will open in 2017 in the southeast communities of New Brighton and Cranston. Thank you to everyone who has been involved in getting our new schools ready for students. For more information on future schools and school modernizations, please visit our website under Schools.

November 6 is Catholic Education Sunday

Did you know? The Calgary Catholic School District has started an Instagram account! Connect with us at calgarycatholicschooldistrict to see some of our favourite photos and stories!

Catholic Education Sunday is a once-a-year appeal to parishes and parishioners to support quality Catholic education in our community through the Calgary Catholic Education Foundation. It is an opportunity to ensure the continued success of our Catholic schools and to promote the mission of Catholic schools to spread God’s message of love and peace in the world. On November 6, there will be a special collection at each mass. Look for the envelopes in the pews of your parish. The funds from this collection will make a difference to Catholic schools and students in need. We thank you in advance for your contribution. For more information, visit www.theccef.ca.

No Classes – Thanksgiving Day and Faith Day There will be no classes on Thanksgiving Monday, October 10. As Thanksgiving approaches, we recall the bounty of God’s attentive love and blessings, especially the gift of God’s mercy which we encounter in the words, action and entire person of Jesus Christ. All schools will also be closed on Tuesday, November 1 for our annual Faith Day—an inspirational, faith-based professional development day for all staff. Each year the event provides district staff with a unique opportunity for professional growth, reflection and reaffirmation of our common goal of Catholic education.
