The New Forest’s ancient and ornamental woodlands are some of the best places in the country to see autumn colour. The beech, Sweet chestnut and oak provide a truly magical display. The Tall Trees trail is one of the top spots to experience the array of colours in the New Forest, so take a stroll through its peaceful surroundings and marvel at its vivid colour display.

From Blackwater car park head straight along the short path towards Blackwater Arboretum. Take your time to explore this small arboretum, in particular, look out for the beautiful rich red leaves of the Japanese cedar. Why not take a moment to sit on one of the benches and admire the trees in their fiery red and orange glory? When you’re ready to continue, head out of the arboretum and back along the path. Take the first left and the path will wind up to Brock Hill car park. As you walk through the woodlands you will pass two of the largest trees in the New Forest, the Giant Sequoia. As you pass, stop here and look up in wonder at the trees reaching into the sky above you.

When you reach Brock Hill car park cross the Rhinefield Ornamental Drive and let the path take you back into the woodland and down the other side of the drive. As you walk down through the woodland breathe in the fragrant pine air from the Douglas fir lining the driveway and bring your attention to the bird’s overhead. Take time to enjoy the beautiful forest surroundings.

The path you are on will wind through the woodland in front of you until you arrive back at the Blackwater car park.
