Trip to United Utilities  Competition time

It was great to see last year's Year 11 at school last night for their awards' ceremony - thank you to Mr Burkitt, Miss Scholes and Miss Wyatt for organising. I am sure that this year's Year 11 are working hard to ensure even better results in 2018! There have been a number of trips and visits this week and students have been a credit to the academy in the way they have conducted themselves outside of school. It was also lovely to have so many parents and carers in yesterday for our Well-being Day and Christmas Fair, held jointly with Melland. Well done to the Year 7s for their storming performance of 'Revolting Children' from the musical 'Matilda', and to the other students who helped to support the event. Don't forget that tickets for our Christmas Concert on December 19th are now available from the Performing Arts Department. Have a great weekend.

Business & Enterprise On Monday Miss Watson visited United Utilities with Y10 to get an insight into what it is like to work at the company. Pupils met staff in the ICT, Marketing & Product Development departments where  students asked about their jobs and the type of training opportunities at the company, During the afternoon everyone was taken on a tour of the science labs and checked out what went on behind the scenes. At this crucial time in their education students begin thinking about life after school, therefore staff presented a Q & A session and talked about the benefits of kicking off their career with an apprenticeship, The best part of the day was when students were asked to break away into groups and design an app, fired up they pitched their ideas to a panel of judges in a Dragons Den style competition. Everyone enjoyed the day – including the United Utilities staff who did a tremendous job in putting on all the activities.

Attendance Challenge & House Competition At Cedar attendance is paramount to learning however during December we step it up a gear! Between the 1st - 21st December if pupils hit 100% attendance and are on time everyday their name will be entered into a draw for a chance to win an AMAZING prize. They double the opportunity of winning if they've hit 100% since September. Last year some of the goodies on offer were vouchers for Nandos, Showcase Cinema, Jump Nation, Primark, Sports Direct, H & M & Superdrug. The star prize was a BIKE!!!!!! GOOD LUCK.

Message from Miss Singh Hi Everyone! For the next House Competition I am running a donation competition for the Wood Street Mission in Manchester. I have spoken to them and said we are happy to donate items by the 12th December. We are looking for one or more of the following from each house: A new toy, gift, book, toiletries or new clothes suitable for children and young teenagers up to the age of 14. Suggested value £10. No high value items please! Do try and remember older children as Wood Street struggle to secure enough donations for this age group. You can also donate non-perishable food suitable for families eg tinned fish, meat, beans, fruit, vegetables, soup, pasta sauce, pasta, rice, long life juice or milk, biscuits & confectionery. Food should have an expiry date of no earlier than January 2018. Deadline is the 11th December so that we can prepare the items ready for collection on the 12th December. Points to be decided with Mrs Watson and Ms Perreira. Let’s get collecting and may the best house win!
