Sports Day DMSF Graduation BBC Radio

It is always lovely to be thanked by students for the support and opportunities that they are given, and lots of our students are really good at making sure that they do that. I have worked in a lot of different schools across my career ( I have been a teacher since 1993!) and the opportunities and help you are given at Cedar Mount are among the best I have ever seen. In one week we have had Sports Day, a group of students travelling to Paris for a residential visit, a Science Show, students attending the T20 cricket at Old Trafford, a cricket team competing in the Manchester Final, trips to University and Sixth Form College, a visit from an athlete. students winning a range of prizes at the Portico Sadie Massey book awards, students speaking and receiving prizes at the DMSF awards and the Year 11 boys beating the staff at football! Plus there will have been loads of other great stuff going on that I didn't know about or have forgotten. My point is that you would not get this range of opportunities at every school and that these chances only come along because staff are prepared to invest in you. I haven't even mentioned the brilliant work that lots of staff do to keep you safe or to support you when you are going through difficult times. So please find time today to thank a member of staff for something they have done for you or an opportunity you have been given - it will make their week! I have also received lovely compliments about the behaviour and hard work of students from a range of sources this week so well done if this applies to you. Next week there will be lots more opportunities so make sure that you take advantage of them. Have a great weekend whether you are watching the football, the cricket, the tennis or no sport at all! See you next week.

Sports Day 2018  On Tuesday 3rd July the whole school headed to Sports City for the much anticipated Inter House Sports Day competition. With war paint slicked on and banners prepped fierce rivalries were ignited as a pupils fought it out in the track and field events. The crowd went wild as they watched brilliant performances from athletes across the four Houses. The overall winners on the day will be announced at the end of year assembly. Good luck!

DMSF Sports Graduation.. Last Friday pupils who take part in the DMSF programme were invited to the annual graduation, its one of the  highlights of the year and celebrates the achievements and hard work of pupils, youth groups and the team behind DMSF. This isn’t a traditional ceremony full of pomp, the dress code is sportswear (preferably adorned with the DMSF logo) and the theme of the evening is ‘Have fun…..as much fun as you can have in 3 hours!'  In addition to a beautiful buffet, entertainment was provided by resident compare Paul Sleem #joker who is too funny for words and had everyone in stitches of laughter. Lamin Deen was next on stage and spoke of his journey growing up in Moss Side and competing in the Winter Olympics. Not one to blow our own trumpets Cedar swept the board in terms of achievements, the evening came to a climax when Mariam and Alicia took to the stage and gave emotional speeches about how DMSF had transformed their lives, very emotional especially for Miss Gill & Miss Bennett. A big thanks to Diane and Bex for organising a great evening at UK Fast, we had a brilliant time and came away with some fantastic treats in our goodie bags.

BBC Radio Manchester  Empathise with parents of Y11 leavers as prom season hits, it’s all about the dress, the suit, hair, nails and getting the right EYEBROW! This week BBC Radio came in to interview students about their preparations for the extravaganza at Denton Golf Club, they talked facials, waves and discussed their hopes and dreams for the future. Next Friday BBC radio plan to shadow students during the morning and follow them as they get ready for the special occasion. We’ve yet to receive confirmation as to when it airs however we’ll provide updates on our social media pages and text parents once we have a date.
