COUNCIL HIGHLIGHTS April 17, 2018 Residents Invited to Help Clean Up Whitby for Earth Week

This April 16 to 22, in recognition of Earth Week, a number of free activities are planned that will help make Whitby a cleaner and greener community. Each year, in the lead up to Earth Day (April 22), Earth Week invites people in communities around the world to reconnect with nature and take action to create a greener and more sustainable future for our planet. In Whitby, residents are encouraged to pick up their free clean-up kit and participate in the Earth Week events: Project Property Sweep Whitby (April 16 to 22), 16th Annual Pitch-in Brooklin (April 21) and the Downtown Whitby Spring Clean-Up (also on April 21). Free clean-up kits are available for pick-up at Iroquois Park Sports Centre (500 Victoria Street West) and the Operations Centre (333 McKinney Drive). They can also be picked up on-site at both the Pitch-in Brooklin and Downtown Whitby Spring Clean-Up events. For more information, visit whitby.ca/earthweek or email [email protected].

New Hospice Care Centre of Excellence Being Considered for Whitby

Durham Region Hospice is looking to develop a ten-bed residential hospice and Palliative Care Centre of Excellence in Whitby. Residential hospices provide free care and support to those diagnosed with serious, life-limiting illnesses or their families. The approximately 3-acre property (Block K Plan Ml133) being considered for donation is located on the north-east comer of Prince of Wales Drive and Crawforth Street. In 2016, through the Mayor’s Community Development Fund, the Town provided a grant of $25,000 to the Victorian Order of Nurses (Ontario Branch) to help build a residential hospice in Durham Region.

COUNCIL HIGHLIGHTS April 17, 2018 Corporate Rebrand Project Moves to Design Phase

The Town has embarked on Phase Two – the design development phase – of the Town’s Corporate Rebrand Project. Scott Thornley + Company (STC) – a brand development company with more than 25 years in the visual storytelling business – is working with the Town to build on the seven core brand attributes derived out of the research and public engagement phase of the rebrand project that was completed last fall. The seven core brand attributes are growth and innovation, community, heritage, active spaces, sincere, welcoming and vibrant. These attributes will be used to develop a new logo, supporting colours, typography and messaging. A new brand architecture and standards will also be developed to ensure a consistent, united brand is delivered going forward. The design of the new brand will be brought forward for Council approval this June and is expected to be rolled out publicly in the implementation phase this fall. To stay informed on this project, visit whitby.ca/brand or email [email protected] to be added to the Interested Parties List.
