What are the Bookmobiles and what do they do? San Diego County Library operates two bookmobiles to help bring library services into the unincorporated areas of San Diego County. All members of the public are welcome to use the bookmobile at any of their scheduled locations. Children and adults can find a variety of books, magazines, audio books and DVD/videocassettes on board.

How do I find a bookmobile stop near me? The bookmobiles make scheduled stops at neighborhoods, retirement residences and other community locations throughout the county. P lease check the alphabetical listing of stops inside this pamphlet for the location that is most convenient for you. How do I use the bookmobiles?
Overdue fines are .25 cents for adult and young adult materials. Overdue fines are .10 cents for children’s materials per item per stop missed. Video/DVD overdue charge is $1.00 each item per stop missed. Library cards will not be renewed/replaced unless all overdue fines and/or fees are paid. Overdue accounts of $100.00 or more will be subject to collection agency action. Other fines and fees may apply, check with staff.
Check out period for once a week stops is 7 days with two renewals at no extra charge, unless item is on reserve for another customer. The check out period for bi-monthly stops is 14 days with two renewals at no extra charge, unless item is on reserve for another customer. Once a month stops are 1-month check out, no renewals.
The bookmobiles operate as branches of the San Diego County Library. Materials that are borrowed from the bookmobiles may be returned to the bookmobiles or any of the San Diego County Library branches. Likewise, materials that have been borrowed from any of the library branches may be returned to the bookmobiles at one of their stops.
If a bookmobile visit is cancelled due to weather conditions, unforeseen staff absences, unscheduled departmental staff meetings or mechanical problems, books will not accrue fines.
Do I need a library card to use the bookmobile?
Bookmobile customers can also log on to the Library’s web catalog and request that items are brought to them on the bookmobile for their scheduled stop.
A library card is needed to check out any items from the bookmobiles. The bookmobiles carry library card applications and can issue cards to applicants. To register for a library card, customers 18 years of age or older must fill out an application and present picture identification and provide verification of current address. Juvenile library cards may be issued to persons under 18 years of age. The signature and identification of the parent/guardian is required. In order to sign as the responsible party for a juvenile's library card, parent/guardians must be customers in good standing. The first library card is free to residents of California. First replacement is FREE-subsequent replacements are 1.00 each.
