Information, Advice & Guidance Our staff hold the MATRIX standard for excellence in providing the best information, advice and guidance to meet your needs. They will be your first point of call for any assistance you may need prior to, and throughout your training with us. Counselling Whatever your worry, whether it’s personal, work or training related, we’re

here to listen and support you in a non-judgemental way. Our business development team will be your first point of call for any concerns you may have during your time with us.

Safeguarding and Prevent (the government initiative to reduce the risk of radicalisation in our communities). We are committed to our responsibilities for the safeguarding of learners. If you have any concerns for your own or anyone else’s safety in training, your workplace or at home our staff will listen in confidence and refer you to our safeguarding lead if it’s appropriate to do so. Your Voice We listen to your feedback and have made many improvements as a

YOU CAN LEAVE SCHOOL AT 16 AND JOIN US ON A FULL T IME ST UDY PROGRAMME OR APPRENT ICESHIP! A common misconception is that you have to stay at school, either at 6th Form or College until you are 18, this is not the case. You do however, need to stay in full time education which includes our courses and apprenticeships.



MONEY MATTERS Employed Apprenticeships Will be paid a minimum rate of £3.50* per hour (often more). Bursary Can support you with continuing learning for example with travel costs if you

are on a full time course.

Lunch Vouchers These are available to learners on a full time course, check with your Recruitment and Guidance Advisor for eligibility. Hardship Additional financial support to overcome barriers to learning can be applied for through your Recruitment & Guidance Advisor. The support is usually offered in the form of a loan or a grant if you are training on a full time course.

Advanced Learner Loans Learners aged 19 or over and wishing to study Level 3 qualifications in hairdressing or beauty therapy at one of our training centres can apply for an Advanced Learner Loan. APPRENTICESHIP REFORMS May 2017 saw the introduction of the apprenticeship reforms, which included a Register of Apprenticeship Providers (RoATP). Companies that are listed on the RoATP, of which we are one, have been through an application process with the SFA that considers due diligence, capability, quality and financial health to assess their capability to deliver high-quality apprenticeship training. The funding landscape for apprenticeships changed significantly, a new apprenticeship levy for large employers was introduced. The Digital Apprenticeship Service was created to source approved training providers and manage all payments for apprenticeship training in an online account.

The initial key business impacts are: There will be a £1,000 Employer Payment made to the employer for each 16-18 apprenticeship start (Up to 24 if learner is care leaver or has an EHP). There will be a 10% (£200 - £400 initially) employer contribution required for all 19+ starts (except if learner is care leaver or has an EHP). Employers with an annual wage bill of £3M or more will be required to contribute 0.5% of their total wage bill to the new apprenticeship levy and current apprenticeship frameworks will change to apprenticeship standards starting in 2018 with Independent End Point Assessments (EPA) being introduced to replace the current model of continuous assessment.

FAQS Q. How do I recruit an apprentice for my business? A. We are interviewing 100s of school leavers who are interested in apprenticeship opportunities. We can short-list applicants and arrange interviews for you. Q. Is there a charge for recruiting apprentices? A. No, we provide this service free of charge. However, we do wish to provide the training for the people that we recruit on your behalf. Q. Do I have to pay an apprentice? A. Yes, an apprenticeship is a full time employed position. The minimum rate that an apprentice should be paid in their first year is £3.50* per hour. Q. Will I be involved in the training? A. You will be asked to plan the apprenticeship training with us to ensure both your business and apprentice get the most out of the apprenticeship. Q. Will I have to release my apprentice for training? A. 20% of your apprentice’s time needs to be off the job training. We offer day release training in our training centres as an option. If this is not suitable for your company’s needs, we can visit your apprentice in your workplace. This usually takes place fortnightly and your apprentice will require some time between visits to complete their work. Q. Does my apprentice need to be issued with a contract of employment? A. Yes. Information regarding contracts of employment can be found on the gov.uk website. Q. Can you supply a young person to help us on a temporary basis? A. Yes, we usually have a choice of young people on our full time courses who are keen to gain experience in a company such as yours. Q. What else can you offer my company? A. You’ll have the support of a Business Development Adviser who will be happy to visit you to discuss your needs at any time. We will keep you up to date with new developments such as funding and new qualifications via our quarterly newsletter and promote the achievements of your staff. Q. Is Heart of England Training regulated? A. Yes, we are inspected and graded by OFSTED. If you work with us it is likely that you will be asked to be involved in the inspection process. BARBERING APPRENTICESHIP The average salary once qualified in this role is £12,000-£16,000 Awarding Body: What is involved in the apprenticeship? Learners will work full time in either a Barber’s Shop or Hair Salon that offers a full barbering service. Duties will likely include booking appointments, shampooing, conditioning and treating the hair and scalp as well as learning specialist methods like cutting men’s hair and facial hair using different barbering techniques. Optional units give you the choice to study other services such as perming, neutralising and colouring hair, assisting with shaving services and fulfilling reception duties. Barbering Apprentices will spend a lot of time on their feet in a forward facing customer service role, good communication and customer service skills are a must, along with good personal presentation.

What levels can I do this apprenticeship at? You can complete this apprenticeship at Level 2 (intermediate).

What are the entry requirements? There are no formal entry requirements, however if you do not hold a GCSE Grade C / 4 or above in English and Maths, we will incorporate English and/or Maths functional skills into your training.

Where will I train? You can train either on a day release programme at one of our training centres or in your own workplace where one of our trainers will regularly visit.

How long will it take? This apprenticeship usually lasts between 12-18 months.

How will I be assessed? Your performance will be continuously monitored throughout the programme by our trainers through a mix of practical demonstrations, observations and theory work. New apprenticeship ‘standards’ are being introduced between 2017-18. These ‘standards’ will involve ‘end point assessments’

What are my progression options? Upon successful completion of your Barbering Apprenticeship, we offer a number of progression opportunities you can work towards. BEAUTY THERAPY APPRENTICESHIP The average salary once qualified in this role is £13,000-£18,000 Awarding Body What is involved in the apprenticeship? Learners will work full time in a beauty therapy based setting, this could be a salon or spa environment. Learners will be introduced to a range of techniques and processes that are essential to succeed as a qualified beauty therapist.

What levels can I do this apprenticeship at? You can complete this apprenticeship at Level 2 (intermediate) and Level 3 (advanced)*.




How will I be assessed? Your performance will be continuously monitored throughout the programme by our trainers through a mix of practical demonstrations, observations and theory work. BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION APPRENTICESHIP The average salary once qualified in this role is £13,000-£18,000 Awarding Body What is involved in the apprenticeship? Learners will usually work full time in an office environment, this could be in a number of job roles including Administration, Marketing, Human Resources and as a Receptionist. This apprenticeship is one of the best ways to gain an insight into the business sector and will offer a wide range of essential skills to improve performance across all business areas including, IT, Communication and Project Management.

What levels can I do this apprenticeship at? You can complete this apprenticeship at Level 2 (intermediate), Level 3 (advanced) and Level 4 (higher).





What are my progression options? Upon successful completion of your Business Administration Apprenticeship, we offer a number of progression opportunities you can work towards. These include up to Level 4 in Business Administration, or specialising in a specific business area for example: Customer Service, Retail, Marketing or Management and Team Leading.




CUSTOMER SERVICE APPRENTICESHIP The average salary once qualified in this role is £12,500 – £17,000 Awarding Body What is involved in the apprenticeship? Learners will usually work full time in a customer facing role, this could be in an office, a call centre, a retail outlet, warehouse or salon. Customer service is the key to good business. In this apprenticeship you will learn about communication using customer service language, resolving problems.

What levels can I do this apprenticeship at? You can complete this apprenticeship at Level 2 (intermediate) or Level 3 (advanced).


Where will I train? You will train in your own workplace where one of our trainers will regularly visit.

FACILITIES SERVICES APPRENTICESHIP The average salary once qualified in this role is £12,500 – £17,000 Awarding Body What is involved in the apprenticeship? Learners will usually work full time in an operational role at a school, leisure centre or any site which requires facilities management. Day to day duties may include supporting the facilities manager with the maintenance, caretaking and security of a building.






What are my progression options? Upon successful completion of your Facilities Management Apprenticeship, we offer a number of progression opportunities you can work towards. These include up to Level 5 in Management and Team Leading.




HAIRDRESSING APPRENTICESHIP The average salary once qualified in this role is £12,000-£17,000 Awarding Body What is involved in the apprenticeship? Learners will work full time in a salon environment undertaking a number of duties including booking appointments, shampooing, conditioning, cutting, styling and colouring hair. Hairdressing theory will be studied and covers topics including the principles of hair colour selection, patch testing and the effect of different chemicals on the body. On the advanced apprenticeship, learners will develop their existing cutting and colouring skills further.

IT APPRENTICESHIP The average salary once qualified in this role is £15,500-£18,000 Awarding Body What is involved in the apprenticeship? Information Technology underpins the infrastructure of most businesses, IT has moved away from just computers. This apprenticeship will enable you to maintain and update software, identify ways to optimise performance, give a broader understanding of telecommunications, different operating systems, content management systems and computer hardware.



Where will I train? You will train either in your own workplace where one of our trainers will regularly visit.

How long will it take? This apprenticeship usually lasts between 1218 months.

NAIL SERVICES APPRENTICESHIP The average salary once qualified in this role is £11,000-£14,000 Awarding Body What is involved in the apprenticeship? As a nail technician, learners will improve the appearance and condition of clients nails, hands and feet. You will learn how to provide professional manicures and pedicures, create nail extensions and nail art using a variety of techniques and you may also be expected to fulfil salon reception duties such as booking appointments and greeting clients.

PE IN SCHOOL SPORT APPRENTICESHIP The average salary once qualified in this role is £13,500-£15,000 Awarding Body What is involved in the apprenticeship? Learners would be based in the PE department of a local school and be working alongside the Head of PE and PE teachers. Our apprentices would be involved in the planning, delivery and evaluation of a number of sports sessions for the students.






What are my progression options? Upon successful completion of your PE in School Sport Apprenticeship, we offer a number of progression opportunities you can work towards. RETAIL APPRENTICESHIP The average salary once qualified in this role is £11,000-£15,000 Awarding Body What is involved in the apprenticeship? Learners would be based in a retail environment, this could be a high street shop, department store, supermarket or specialist retailer. Your apprenticeship would enable you to maximise sales through product knowledge and positioning, take stock, process payments and built rapport with customers and retail team members.

SPORTS COACHING APPRENTICESHIP The average salary once qualified in this role is £13,500-£15,000 Awarding Body What is involved in the apprenticeship? Learners would be based in a coaching environment, this usually is a community setting such as a sports clubs, leisure centres and local schools. The apprenticeship will cover planning, delivery and review of activities as well as supporting club members’ personal and social development.






What are my progression options? Upon successful completion of your Sports Coaching Apprenticeship, we offer a number of progression opportunities you can work towards. SUPPORTING TEACHING & LEARNING IN SCHOOLS APPRENTICESHIP

The average salary once qualified in this role is £14,000-£17,500 Awarding Body What is involved in the apprenticeship? Learners would be working full time at a school as a classroom assistant. Duties would include supporting the class teacher in a range of activities which may include: contributing to the planning and delivery of lessons, evaluating learning outcomes, administering school trips and hosting after school clubs.

TEAM LEADING APPRENTICESHIP The average salary once qualified in this role is £17,000-£19,000 Awarding Body What is involved in the apprenticeship? Learners would be working full time as team leader which could be in a number of industries including warehousing, retail, leisure and hospitality. The units are broad ranging and can be applied to any industry. As a Team Leading Apprentice you will learn how to increase productivity and performance across your team using a range of management techniques.






What are my progression options? Upon successful completion of your Team Leading Apprenticeship, we offer a number of progression opportunities you can work towards. The natural progression route would be up to Level 5 in Management, however you may want to broaden your skill set and opt to work towards a qualification in: Customer Service or Business Administration.




WAREHOUSING & STORAGE APPRENTICESHIP The average salary once qualified in this role is £11,000-£15,000 Awarding Body What is involved in the apprenticeship? Learners would be working full time in a warehousing or storage environment and play a key part in their businesses logistics process. This apprenticeship will equip you with the skills to assemble and dispatch orders efficiently (picking and packing), understand the importance of Health and Safety in the workplace and also learn how to operate specialist machinery such as cranes and forklifts.






What are my progression options? Upon successful completion of your Warehousing and Storage Apprenticeship, we offer a number of progression opportunities you can work towards. These include up to Level 5 in Management or broadening your skill set with complementary subjects including: Customer Service, Business Administration and Team Leading.




FULL TIME STUDY PROGRAMMES BUSINESS & IT AVAILABLE IN: Coventry and Rugby Awarding Body What is involved in the course? These courses are an ideal starting point for anyone who wants to work in a corporate environment. The Business BTEC covers all the essential elements of business services, including strategic planning, managing finance and marketing. Our IT course includes units on software development, hardware, data analysis and networking.

What levels can I do these courses at? You can complete both courses at NVQ Levels 1 and 2 in Rugby and Coventry and we are also offering Business Professional Level 3 at our Coventry Training Centre.

What are the entry requirements? GCSE Grade C / 4 or above in English and Maths, if you do not already possess these qualifications we can incorporate English and/or Maths functional skills or GCSEs into your training.

Where will I study? You can train either at our Rugby or Coventry Training Centres which are both located in the town and city centre.

How will I be assessed? Your performance will be monitored throughout the programme by our trainers through practical demonstrations, observations, assignments and coursework. If you need to incorporate functional skills (Maths and English) into your training these subjects you can choose how and when you would like to sit your exam(s).

What are my progression options? Upon successful completion of your Beauty Therapy Apprenticeship, we offer a number of lude: Hairdressing, Customer Service or Management and Team Leading.

Financial Support You may be eligible for a bursary. This can be used to support with things like travel and equipment and are assessed on an individual basis. Speak to your Recruitment & Guidance Advisor for more information on bursaries.

Work Experience During your course you will gain valuable work experience working in our training centre, we will support you to find external placements during your time with us and will assist you when the time comes to decide on your next steps…

These courses are an ideal starting point for anyone who wants to take the first steps towards a career in hair and/or beauty. Our training centres are fully operational commercial salons which means that unlike many other training providers you’ll be able to gain valuable salon work experience and provide treatments and services for paying clients.

What levels can I do these courses at? You can complete both courses at NVQ/VRQ Levels 1, 2 and 3. We offer Beauty Therapy Level 3 General Route in the Coventry and Leicester centres and the Massage Route in our Birmingham and Rugby Centres.

What are the entry requirements? There are no formal entry requirements, however if you do not hold a GCSE Grade C / 4 or above in English and Maths, we will incorporate English and/or Maths functional skills or GCSEs into your training.

Where will I study? You can train at any of our Training Centres which are located Birmingham, Coventry, Leicester and Rugby.

How will I be assessed? Your performance will be monitored throughout the programme by our trainers through practical demonstrations, observations, assignments and theory work. If you need to incorporate functional skills (Maths and English) into your training these subjects you can choose how and when you would like to sit your exam(s).

What are my progression options? Upon successful completion of your study programme you can work toward the next level up, up to level 3 either remaining on a study programme or by moving over to an apprenticeship in a local salon or spa. Alternatively you could look at expanding your skill set with a complementary apprenticeship such as Customer Service.

Financial Support Free kit and uniform worth over £100 for all learners who enrol before their 19th Birthday. You may be eligible for a bursary. What is involved in the course? Our full time sport courses are available as a BTEC or NVQ, both of which will set you up for a great career in sport or sports coaching. You will receive 10 hours of professional UEFA coaching and two match days per week. Fixtures will include a number of professional clubs, US colleges and touring teams as well as regular matches in the ECFA league.

What levels can I do these courses at? You can complete both courses at Levels 1, 2 and 3.


Where will I study? You will train at our football facilities, Castle Vale Stadium in Birmingham.

How will I be assessed? Your performance will be monitored throughout the programme by our trainers through practical demonstrations, observations, assignments and theory work. If you need to incorporate functional skills (Maths and English) into your training these subjects you can choose how and when you would like to sit your exam(s).

What are my progression options? Upon successful completion of their sport qualification our learners either progress on to scholarships in the USA, undertake a degree at University, gain employment or undertake a sports based apprenticeship.

PRE-16 VOCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS We work with a variety of schools, academies and local authorities to offer 14-16 year olds the opportunity to learn, and gain nationally recognised qualifications in a practical and stimulating vocational environment. Learning work based skills in a new setting away from the classroom offers young people an engaging and practical stepping stone into higher level qualifications.

We can offer your students bespoke training in a range of subjects including Beauty Therapy, Business Administration, Hairdressing and Information Technology. Our pre 16 learners can attend either 1, 2 or 3 days a week and can start at any time throughout the year.

VOCATIONAL ASSESSORS AWARD (CIAVA) The Vocational Assessors Award is designed for individuals interested in assessing learners taking National Vocational Qualifications (known as QCFs). The course comprises of three theory days (various dates and locations are available, see website for details) and individual tuition to build your portfolio.

AWARD IN EDUCATION & TRAINING (PTLLS) PREPARING TO TEACH IN THE LIFELONG LEARNING SECTOR This qualification is at level 4 and is for people who want to progress onto teaching in the lifelong learning sector.

Units: THESE ARE THE MANDATORY UNITS IN THIS QUALIFICATION:

• Roles, responsibilities and relationships in lifelong learning • Understanding inclusive learning and teaching in lifelong learning • Using inclusive learning and teaching approaches in lifelong learning • Manage learning and development in groups • Principles of assessments in lifelong learning

What are the entry requirements? You are expected to have a level 3 (or equivalent) qualification in the sector you want to teach in. On application, you will be required to complete an initial assessment in English and Maths, for which you will need to achieve a Level 1. If you do not initially achieve a Level 1, support can be arranged to bring you up to PTLLS standard. From this point you can then progress onto the CTLLS course (see below for details).

DAY COURSES BEAUTY THERAPY APPRENTICESHIP HAIRDRESSING & BEAUTY THERAPY

The average salary once qualified in this role is £13,000-£18,000 INDIAN HEAD MASSAGE

Learn how to give your clients a relaxing and invigorating Indian Head Massage. This can be delivered at the backwash or as a stand-alone service and is a great way to increase takings in a salon.

SPRAY TANNING

In this course you will learn how to give your customer an excellent spray tan. As part of this day course you will also have a chance to become the client and receive your own spray tan.

BARBERING

This day course is delivered in two parts, the first is an interactive workshop delivered by our professional barber who will teach you techniques involved in cutting and styling men’s hair. The second part of the day will enable you to cut and style your own model’s hair (you are required to bring your own model for the day).

THREADING

This workshop will enable you to have an understanding of, and the ability to perform the threading technique to remove unwanted facial hair, as well as gaining a theoretical and historical knowledge of the process.

Fee: £95 EMERGENCY FIRST AID AT WORK (ONE DAY COURSE) This fully accredited HSE (Health and Safety Executive) course covers basic regulatory requirements for first aid in the workplace and is delivered by a former fire fighter with many years of real, hands-on experience and covers the following topics: • First Aid regulations • Treating an unconscious casualty • Common work place injuries
