Common Safety Training Program CSTP CORE SAFETY CS The Common Safety Training Program (CSTP) has been designed by industry for industry to reflect knowledge and skills represented in the following 6 key areas; The Safety Case and Safety Managment Systems, Work Under an Issued Permit, Identify Hazards and Risks, Contribute to Safe Work Practices, Control Minor Incidents and Respond to an Emergency. All personnel regularly working in Australian offshore production and drilling operations must undertake CSTP and hold a CSTP Card. Onshore personnel are largely not required to undertake this course, however it is applicable and available to workers. In some cases it is required by employers. AUTHORITY / REGULATOR The Australian Petroleum Production & Exploration Association (APPEA) works with Australian governments to help promote the development of the nation’s oil and gas resources to maximise the return to the Australian industry and community. APPEA aims to secure regulatory and commercial conditions that enable member companies to operate safely, sustainably, and profitably. CSTP is administered by APPEA on behalf of the Australian oil and gas industry.

PRE-REQUISITES None

STRUCTURE & ASSESSMENT This course is given through classroom presentations, activities and participant discussion as well as practical components within a simulated workplace environment using specialised equipment. Trainees assesment will be conducted through on and off-the-job demonstration, oral questioning, use of a workbook, role playing and practical exercises in an appropriate industrial scenario.

CERTIFICATION On successful completion trainees will receive a Common Safety Training Card which attests to there being evidence from the workplace and ERGT that required behaviours have been demonstrated. The card is issued by an independent reviewer operating at the discretion of the oil and gas industry.
