COURSES AND WORKSHOPS AT BRIC All courses are free unless otherwise stated Maths Functional Skills – Approx. 12 weeks Struggling with numbers and want to improve your level of Maths? Learn how to do subtraction, work with money and use percentages and fractions (to name a few). From Entry Level up to Level 2. Gain a nationally recognised qualification! Start date: Every Wed (10am – 12noon) English Functional Skills – Approx. 12 weeks Need to improve your everyday English skills? Get support to help you with your reading, writing, spelling and grammar. This course is ideal for building your confidence whilst gaining a nationally recognised qualification. Start date: Every Wed (1pm – 3pm) English Additional Support If you’d like to do an English qualification, but just don’t feel your skills are there yet – then get in touch! We have specialist one to one support to help you learn the skills and knowledge required so that you can go on to successfully complete a qualification. Start date: Every Mon and Wed from 9.30am with 1 hour slots allotted to individuals, enabling bespoke learning Numeracy Additional Support Numeracy skills count… improved numeracy skills lead to employment, better paid jobs, greater wellbeing and a less stressful life. Numeracy skills are not just for scientists or accountants, many professions require at least a basic level of understanding when it comes to numeracy and mathematics. Take some time to develop your numeracy skills – it’s never too late to learn. Start date: Every Fri (10am – 12noon) Craft for the Over 50’s: Craft Making Mixture: Course Fee £15 8 weeks A merry mix of crafts. Different workshops including: candle making, soap making, bath bombs, silk painting, glass/ceramic painting, mosaics, jewellery, collage and paper mache. Start date: Mon 9th Jan (10am – 12noon)

IT for the Over 50’s – 6 weeks This course is ideal for anyone over 50, with very little experience of computers. The course is flexible so that learners cover what they’d like to, including: o Mouse & keyboard control o Searching online o Staying safe online o Emails o Accessing health services online Start Date(s): Tue 10th Jan (10am – 12noon) Thu 9th Mar (1pm – 3pm) Calligraphy for the Over 50’s: Course Fee £10 8 weeks Come and enjoy a relaxed, fun and welcoming atmosphere of calligraphy learning, whether a beginner or with experience, you will not be disappointed. Start date: Tue 10th Jan (1pm – 3pm) Family History for the Over 50’s: Course Fee £10 - 11 weeks Researching your family tree can be great fun, fascinating and enlightening. You will cover a range of topics to improve your experience and skills, from who to research and get started, to recording and tracking information. You’ll explore a range of historical records and finding key information. Start date: Tue 10th Jan (1pm – 3pm) IT for Job Seekers - (Entry Level 3 Qualification) – 3 weeks Covers everything from the Basic IT course, plus more support and focus on Universal Job Match and job searching. Start Date(s): Tue 10th Jan (1pm – 3pm) Tue 31st Jan (1pm – 3pm) Tue 28th Feb (10am – 12noon) Tue 28th Mar (10am – 12noon) Basic IT – (Entry Level 3 Qualification) – 6 weeks This course is ideal for those with very little experience of computers, and you have the option to gain a qualification. o Accessing health services online Start Date(s): Wed 11th Jan (10am - 12noon) Wed 1st Mar (1pm - 3pm) Moving on in IT – 6 weeks A follow on course from our Basic IT, learn how to: o Complete Online Forms o Understand Public Services o Make money work o Shop Online o Use Facebook o Banking Online o Staying safe online Start Date(s): Wed 11th Jan (1pm – 3pm) Tue 7th Mar (1pm - 3pm) Craft for the Over 50’s: Textiles: Course Fee £15 8 weeks Workshops for those with a love of learning new styles, techniques and ways of using fabric and felt including: wet felting, needle felting, soft toy/doll making and creative collage. Start date: Thu 12th Jan (10am – 12noon) Art & Drawing for the Over 50’s: Course Fee £20 13 weeks Creative workshops for all levels. Experimental weeks using different media to draw and paint. Whatever your skills are, the learning is fun and informal. Start date: Thu 12th Jan (1pm – 3pm) IT Functional Skills Level 1 – 13 weeks Learn how to use search engines, word processing, spreadsheets and multimedia presentation software. Students will also learn about internet safety, cyber-bullying and social, legal and ethical issues relating to using technology, including acceptable use and copyright. Successful completion of the course gains an NCFE Functional Skills Qualification ICT Level 1. Start Date: Fri 13th Jan (9.30am - 12.30pm with an option of additional computer support until 3pm) Craft for the Over 50’s: Knitting & Stitching: Course Fee £15 8 weeks Create using embellishments, applique and stitching. Lots of lovely things to make, whatever

your skill. Stuck with that pattern that you can’t work out? Come along and learn how to do it. Start date: Thu 16th Mar (10am – 12noon)

IT TASTER SESSIONS Getting to know Email Create an email account or learn how to use an existing one. Find out how to send and receive emails, as well as attaching and opening documents and photos. Date: Tue 28th Feb (1pm - 3pm) Tablet Computers Do you want to know how to set up and use your tablet or are you considering getting a tablet? Find out how to set up your wi-fi, what apps are and what else you can do with your tablet. Date: Thu 2nd Mar (1pm - 3pm) Wise with Word Explore word processing and how to open, create and save documents. Find out how to change text size, fonts, use bold, italic and underlining, as well as formatting any word documents. Date: Tue 21st Mar (10am – 12noon)

Computer & Internet Security Learn how to stop viruses, malware and spyware. How to identify phishing emails and spam and the damage they can do. How safe is shopping online and how to recognise safe sites. Security settings for social media. How to stay safe online. Date: Wed 22nd Mar (10am - 12noon)

Work with our team to gain skills, qualifications and work experience to enhance your job prospects, as well as working closely with employers to identify employment opportunities, ensuring you have the skills you need. This is not a one size fits all approach as support is tailored to your needs and what you’d like to achieve. Be part of this exciting project

Mock Interviews with Greggs Invaluable opportunity with a Resourcing Advisor from Greggs to attend a mock interview practice session, delivered on a one-to-one basis for ½ hour. You will be following a structured questionnaire format using a short interview form and then asked questions and allowed to respond naturally. Constructive feedback will be provided and you’ll receive experience in strengthening your performance at future interviews. Date: Wed 22nd Feb with ½ hour slots for appointments Customer Service & Customer Relations Learn about many aspects of customer service (internal and external), understanding customers’ needs, and the benefits and negative effects of poor customer service. Invaluable knowledge for consumers and customer service providers (professionally and personally). Date: Thu 9th Feb (10am – 12noon)

BRIC EMOTIONAL WELL BEING SESSIONS Motivation and Positive Thinking Learn strategies for taking control, dealing with negativity and getting yourself in a better frame of mind. Date: Tue 10th Jan (10am - 12noon) Assertiveness Explore how to have the confidence to make decisions that are right for you as well as learning how to put your opinion across constructively. Date: Tue 31st Jan (10am – 12noon) Effective Communication and Dealing with Difficult Situations Explore how you react to certain situations, look at how to change your behaviour in helping to deal with conflicts and disagreements. Date: Tue 28th Feb (10am – 12noon) Dealing with Stress

COURSES AND WORKSHOPS AT OTHER VENUES Get Ready for the Future – Free Support If you’d like to get your first job or return to work, this informative and friendly course is ideal. We can help upskill you in IT and practical skills (including free qualifications), support you with writing a CV, complete job applications and provide interview preparation. Further personal development includes emotional wellbeing subjects such as Motivation, Positive Thinking and Confidence Building. Support will be tailored to individual needs and catered towards what you’d like to achieve. This is not a one size fits all approach. Funding is provided from ISOS and we especially welcome their residents, although support is available for everyone. Three venues are available.
