HOW TO PAINT FAST, LOOSE & BOLD with Artist and Author Patti Mollica

Fri./Sat./Sun. September 14, 15 & 16

9 am–4 pm

$375 residents / $380 non-residents

Patti Mollica is an impressionistic and contemporary painter, and author of “How to Paint Fast, Loose & Bold,” “Modern Acrylics,” “Color Theory for Painters” & “Getting Started in Acrylic.” Patti believes that a painter’s job is to show the viewer the inherent beauty of all subjects and scenes. This workshop will begin with a full explanation of materials, methods and a step-bystep painting demonstration. You will learn how to simplify and see values clearly, how to create a value sketch as a “roadmap” to a successful painting and how to translate values into colors. Students will use more paint and bigger brushes with fewer strokes for a bolder look. Patti will explain how to simplify and determine what details are important. This workshop is essential to understanding how to use energetic, gestural brushwork to keep colors clean and bright. Patti’s work can be seen at: www.pattimollica.com. Call Artsplace for a registration packet. Patti will present a FREE Golden Demonstration on Thursday, September 13 from 6–8 pm at Artsplace. The GOLDEN Acrylic Lecture Demo is a fun, fast-paced informative 2 hour lecture covering a technical review of acrylics and their varied application possibilities. The lecture demo will present information on pigment types, characteristics, heavy body, fluids, OPEN paints, gels, mediums, pastes, iridescents, and much more. This demonstration/lecture is open to the public. Call 203-272-2787 to reserve a spot.

ARTSPLACE ANNUAL STUDENT / TEACHER / STAFF ART SHOW It Doesn’t Look Like the Photo! --- Not the usual art show. These instructions were given to participants, “Freely crop, change, rearrange or eliminate subjects from the photo as you desire.” Artsplace wants the public to see how artists actually use photographs for inspiration and not for copying. Visit the Cheshire Public Library to see the show July 3–26 (Mon.–Fri.). Call the library in advance at 203-272-2245 for art show hours. The public is invited to a reception in the Mary Baldwin Room on July 16 from 6:30–8 pm.
