Creative events for everyone in Colin Crafts, leisure, sport, family trips, history, culture and more!

Welcome to Creativity Month in Colin Colin Neighbourhood Partnership, in association with the Urban Village initiative, is delighted to present to you our 4th Creativity Month in Colin programme. Throughout the month of March there will be lots of events for children and adults including pottery workshops, cookery classes, circus workshops, candle making, photography, wood crafts, an ice rink in the Dairy Farm Centre, and much more! All children must be accompanied by an adult. Photos and video footage will be taken at these events. All info correct at time of going to print.

“Travel, As I Go” Photo Exhibition Colin Glen Library, Dairy Farm Centre, during library opening times throughout March A photographic exhibition inspired by the idea of egress. Created by tenants of Hemsworth Court Supported Housing for People with Dementia. Part of the Here and Now Older Persons Festival 2016.

Woodwork Class - Make a Traditional Wooden Stool Starts Monday 27th February for 5 weeks. 10am-2pm, Colin Allotments, 30 Colin Glen Road, Belfast. This workshop will teach you the skills needed to make your own piece of furniture in the form of a traditional 3 or 4 legged stool, otherwise known as a Creepie. Suitable for beginners. Woodcarving for Beginners Starts Monday 27th February for 5 weeks. 7pm-9.30pm, Colin Allotments, 30 Colin Glen Road, Belfast. Woodcarving is fun, accessible and creative. The aim of this class will be to produce a relief carving of a leaf. You will also learn about different woods and chisels and how to use them safely and effectively. This class is ideal for people that just want to try something new along with those that want to take their skills to the next level. All materials provided. £3 per class. Circus Workshop Monday 27th February, 6.30pm-8.30pm, Brook Activity Centre, Twinbrook. Youth circus workshops for those aged 8+. Participants will learn from a range of skills including diabolo juggling (balls and scarves), stilt walking, unicycle, plate spinning, tight wire, devil stick, acrobatics & hat manipulation. £3 per person. Deliciously Healthy Cookery Classes: Beautiful Breakfasts Wednesday 1st March, 11am-1pm. Colin Allotment Kitchen, 30 Colin Glen Road, Belfast. Learn how to create a balanced breakfast to keep those energy levels up throughout the day. You will learn how to make mouth-watering and nutritious recipes including banana pancakes, muffins and overnight oats. £5 per person. Photography Workshops Starts Thursday 2nd March for 5 weeks. 2pm-4pm, Cloona House, 31 Colin Road, Poleglass, Belfast. Always wanted to learn how to take the perfect photo? Award winning photographer, Carrie Davenport, will show you how to use a camera or smart phone to its full potential. Find out how to edit and enhance photos, and how to snap that once in a lifetime memory. £3 per person per class. Pottery Workshops Starts Thursday 2nd March for 5 weeks. 7.00pm, Cloona House, 31 Colin Road, Belfast. Create a range of objects including personalised door signage, decorative bowls, and picture frames. Use a pottery wheel and paint the objects created. £3 per class. Wax Melts and Decorated Candle Workshop Monday 6th March, 6pm-8pm, Colin Community Hub, Laurel Glen Shops, Stewartstown Road. This fascinating workshop lets you use the double boiler method to create a wax melt which you can use in an oil burner. You will also get the opportunity to decorate a premade candle. £2 per person. Itty Bitty Circus Workshop Monday 6th March, 6.30pm, Brook Activity Centre, Twinbrook Especially for the younger kids (4-7 years) this workshop uses a variety of circus equipment such as juggling balls, scarves, flower sticks, and spinning plates. £3 per child. “Inspiring & Celebrating Women in Colin” Wednesday 8th March, 10.30am-1.00pm, Balmoral Hotel, Blacks Road, Belfast. An invitation to all women in the Colin area to come together and celebrate International Women’s Day. This event will feature inspirational speakers and include information and discussion sessions. Women will have the opportunity to experience aromatherapy & massage taster sessions, as well as benefit from health checks & advice on wellbeing and much more. Healthy food and snacks will be available to tantalise the taste buds. This free event promises to be a treat for the mind, body and soul. Belfast Giants v Nottingham Panthers Ice Hockey Match Friday 10th March at SSE Arena, Belfast. Bus leaves Dairy Farm Centre 6.15pm, match begins 7pm. Come and experience the energy of an ice hockey game when the Belfast Giants take on the Nottingham Panthers in the elite league. Creativity Day Friday 10th March, 3pm-6pm, Dairy Farm Shopping Centre, Stewartstown Road, Belfast. This hugely popular event promises a fun filled afternoon of creative fun for all the family. Visit the international arts & crafts stations where you will have the opportunity to create art & crafts from different cultures. Take part in traditional Polish, Mexican and Bollywood dance. A soda bread baking demonstration will also take place, as well as food tasting, and storytelling in the library. An event that is sure to keep the family busy and entertained for hours! Seniors Trip to The Lyric - “Nivelli’s War” Saturday 11th March. Bus leaves Dairy Farm Shopping Centre at 12.45pm, show starts 1.30pm. For older residents of the Colin area. Cahoots NI, in association with the Lyric Theatre, presents Nivelli’s War – Charles Way’s family drama set at the end of World War II. Based on the moving true story of a Holocaust survivor, Nivelli’s War is told through a blend of theatre, magic, illusion and original music. £3 per person. Ice Skating Rink at the Dairy Farm Centre Monday 13th – Thursday 16th March, Dairy Farm Shopping Centre, Belfast. The Colin area will have its very own synthetic ice rink for 4 days in the Dairy Farm Shopping Centre. So get your skates on and come join in the family fun! Opening times: Monday 13th - Wednesday 15th March from 1pm-8pm and Thursday 16th March from 11am-6pm. £3 per person, family of four £6, for 45 minutes. No booking required. Hobbit Heaven at Colin Allotments Starts Monday 13th March, 6.30pm. Are you or your family member a Colin Allotment holder? On Monday and Wednesday evenings in March, artists and craftsmen will be creating a mythical hobbit style dwelling at the allotment site and we would like as many hands as possible to help create a fairy-tale scene for visitors. St. Patrick’s Day at Colin Glen Forest Friday 17th March, 11am-4pm, Colin Glen Forest Park, Belfast This event, organised by Colin Glen Trust, will allow you to have a go at a range of outdoor activities including the climbing wall, zip line, high and low ropes course, team games, laser tag and archery. The park will be filled with music, entertainers and there will be face painters, bouncy castles and a craft village. £4 per child, £5.50 per adult. Translink will provide a Park & Ride service from the Black’s Road Park and Ride site from 10.45am to 4.30pm. No parking available on site. A Shared History - Museums Trip to Free Derry Museum and Siege Museum Thursday 23rd March, Bus leaves Dairy Farm Centre at 9.30am, returns 5.30pm. Join us on this unique trip to Derry to visit the Siege Museum which will include discussions with representatives of the Apprentice Boys of Derry. Then it’s off to the Museum of Free Derry which will include discussions with representatives of the Bogside Residents Group. Lunch and transport provided. “Room On The Broom” at the Lyric Theatre Friday 24th March, bus leaves Dairy Farm Centre at 4.15pm, show at 5pm. Iggety ziggety zaggety zoom! Join the witch and her cat on their mission to defeat the dragon in Tall Stories’ magical, musical adaptation of the classic picture book by Julia Donaldson (‘The Gruffalo’) and Axel Scheffler. Bath Salts & Votive Candle Workshop Monday 27th March, 3pm-5pm, Colin Community Hub, Stewartstown Road, Belfast. Flower Essences Workshop Thursday 30th March, 9.30am, Colin Community Hub, Laurel Glen Shops, Stewartstown Road, Belfast. This workshop will look how flower essences can be used as remedies to help promote emotional health and wellbeing. They are a gentle way to let go of negative emotions and feelings and bring emotional health back into balance. They can be used by everyone including adults and children. “Wonderland” Theatre Trip Thursday 30th March. Bus leaves Dairy Farm Centre at 6.45pm, show starts 7.30pm. Wonderland is an enchanting musical adaptation of Lewis Carroll’s ‘Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland’ and ‘Through the Looking Glass’, with a huge heart, a medley of magic and a whole lot of wonder. A timely and touching story of love in all its forms, this is an adventurous exploration of who we are, who we want to be and the power of everyday magic in our lives. The Colin Youth Awards Colin Neighbourhood Partnership, in association with the Urban Village initiative, is asking you to nominate an inspirational young person for a Colin Youth Award. The awards recognise and celebrate the achievements of young people in our community. You can nominate online at www.newcolin.com. Nominees will be invited to a Gala Awards Ceremony in Crumlin Road Gaol, Belfast, on the evening of Friday 31st March. Winners in each award category will receive an award on the night. The closing date for nominations is Friday 3rd March at 4pm.
