Crim Severe Weather Policy  Saturday morning weather forecasts indicate showers and possible scattered thunderstorms.  While our goal is to provide an excellent Crim experience for everyone, participant safety is our  number one priority. For your safety, please review the Crim’s severe weather policies and  procedures listed below.    All decisions regarding race delays or cancellations will be made in accordance with established  USA Track & Field safety guidelines and protocols, in consultation with the Crim Fitness  Foundation Board of Directors, Race Committee, and public safety officials.    

Downtown/Prior to Races   If lightning is spotted within a 10 mile radius prior to the start of any race, the race will be  delayed until 30 minutes after the last lightning strike within that area.  Racers, spectators,  and volunteers will be instructed to seek shelter. This includes everyone on the festival lot.  TENTS ARE NOT CONSIDERED A SAFE SHELTER.     If no obvious lightning has occurred after 30 minutes, racers should report back to the  start line. Check the  Crim Races and Events Facebook page  regularly during this time for  updates and alerts.     Designated Shelters:   Downtown Area (See Map)  ● Riverfront Banquet Center (Commit to Fit Health and Fitness Expo Hall)  ● University Pavilion  ● James Rutherford Parking Ramp  ● Downtown Parking Ramp adjacent to Riverfront Banquet Center  ● University of Michigan­Flint Parking Ramp just east of the Festival Lot  ● State of Michigan Parking Ramp just north of the Festival Lot   

     

Severe Weather DURING Races  If severe weather is deemed to be a significant threat to racer safety while one or more  races are in progress, race cancellation is a possibility.  I n the event of race cancellation,  courses will be closed and racers will be instructed to seek immediate shelter until the threat has  passed. Two designated areas along the course include Kettering University’s Campus Center  and Recreation Center at Chevrolet and University Avenues, and Powers Catholic High School  at the corner of Court and Miller.     All ambulance and police vehicles along the course will block roads and personnel will provide  instructions to racers. All official water stations will be closed upon race cancellation. Volunteers  along the course will be instructed to seek shelter in vehicles.    Once threatening weather has passed, racers on the course will be guided towards downtown  using Kearsley Street as the main avenue.     In the unlikely event of this type of cancellation, any racers who have not yet crossed the finish  line will not receive an official time and will not be eligible for overall or age division awards.     As a reminder, all decisions regarding delays or cancellations will be made in accordance  with established USA Track & Field safety guidelines and protocols, in consultation with  Crim Fitness Foundation Board of Directors, Race Committee, and public safety officials.  Racer, volunteer and spectator safety is of utmost importance.
