KANTURK MILK OF ISRAEL n Venue & Time: Trade Unions Hall, Kanturk. Screening at 6pm, 7pm and 8pm Contact: [email protected] Cork film maker Colette Lewis will show   two video works:  Yaccov, Yanki, Jack  and  Monitor’s I-IV.  Set against the backdrop of the dairy farming community in Kanturk Co Cork in 2010, Milk of Israel follows the supervision process of Super Kosher milk production in North Cork Cooperative Creameries for Yavney Food Industries in Israel. 

KINSALE CULTURE NIGHT KINSALE n Venue & Time: St. Multose Church, Kinsale | 7.30pm Contact: [email protected] Once again, St. Multose is the venue for this fantastic event. This year will feature performances by Kinsale Music Academy, Kinsale Amateur Orchestral Society, local primary school students and special guest, Dan Twomey.

MACROOM SOUNDOUT n Venue & Time: Macroom Town Hall, The Square, Macroom | 8pm Contact: [email protected] or 021 434 6210 Macroom Town Hall will host a performance by SoundOut, a jazz trio comprising of saxophone, bass and drums. The group have composed and arranged music that loosely includes element of Jazz, Latin and Middle Eastern forms. They will be performing some of the new material they have been developing for Culture Night.

MALLOW LIGHTBULB YOUTH THEATRE OPEN EVENING n Venue & Time: Mercy Centre, Mallow | 7pm Contact: [email protected] or 087 698 2887 Open workshop for young people 12 - 18 years old. Lightbulb Youth Theatre has provided opportunities for young people in Mallow to learn and develop through participation in drama and theatre. Lightbulb YT performances have been staged locally, nationally and internationally. Members have the opportunity to take part in many aspects of drama both in Lightbulb and through the various festivals and exchanges the the youth theatre takes part in.

Following that, at 7pm, Tony Harpur will give a talk entitled Architects & Architecture of Midleton 1717 - 1908 in which he will discuss the architecture of Midleton and the people who created it.

SCHULL MASQUERADE nnn Venue & Time: Throughout Schull all afternoon and evening Contact: [email protected] - www.schull.ie/schullture   Yet another packed programme of events for this year’s Culture Night celebration in Schull. There will be a display of specially commissioned art work, an intimate performance with Schull Drama Group, a selection short films featured at the Fastnet Short Film Festival 2015, reading of new material with Playacting Theatre and a New Orleans style Jazz and Masked Ball. The Blue House Gallery will host two exhibitions for the evening including Nona Pettersen - A Retrospective and a selection of work by new artists. It will be a showcase evening with Irish dancing, set dancing, traditional music, storytelling, singing and recitation.

MITCHELSTOWN CULTURE NIGHT MITCHELSTOWN nnn Venue & Time: Various venues | 2.30pm - late Contact: [email protected] There is a fantastic selection of events planned for Mitchelstown’s Culture Night celebrations including a meeting of Mitchelstown’s Writers Group at Kingston College (2.30pm - 4pm), an exhibition of arts & crafts with performances by local poets and musicians at Mitchelstown Library (5pm - 9pm) and a ‘round the fireside storytelling session in Ramble Inn with music and craic guaranteed (9pm - Late).

NEWMARKET CULTURE NIGHT AT SCULLY’S BAR n Venue & Time: Scully’s Bar, Newmarket | 9pm Contact: [email protected] or 087 910 0087 Scully’s Bar is famous for hosting one of the oldest music sessions in Ireland and this year’s Culture Night event will feature plenty of the Sliabh Luachra music we are famous for, peppered with interludes of poetry, song and dance from both local and visiting guests. Our Culture Night programme this year features a vast array of free arts and cultural​events taking place in many towns and villages throughout the county. This group will perform at various venues throughout the town on Friday afternoon, for Culture Night. They will also perform in Bandon on Saturday 26th September as part of ENGAGE Bandon Arts festival.

Their will also be performances by Cuisle Avondhu, Laharn Crossroads Dancers and Doneraile Dramatic Society.

Join local singers and musicians, both young and old, in Ard na Laoi for a lively afternoon of music and song, with acclaimed sean-nós singer, TG4 Amhránaí na Bliana 2012 and winner of Corn Uí Riada 2014, Nell Ní Chróinín as bean a’ tí. Special appearance by Ballingeary Pipe Band and other guests.

CASTLETOWNBERE IN THE GARDEN OF LAST THINGS n Venue & Time: Sarah Walker Gallery, Castletownbere | 6pm Contact: [email protected] or 027 70387 In the Garden of Last Things, an installation by Bénédicte Coleman, combines her distinctive use of industrial air filters with new elements. Coleman links into the wealth of symbolism surrounding gardens in both mythology and religion to explore the likelihood of destruction overtaking creation and possible outcomes of this scenario. In the Garden of Last Things is supported by the Culture Night Cork County commission scheme.

Breda has a particular interest in the art of portrait painting and her exhibition will feature portraits of some well known Charleville personalities.

SACRED HEART / SHAPE NOTE SINGING WORKSHOP n Venue & Time: Sirius Arts Centre, Cobh | 7.30pm Contact: [email protected] or 021 481 3790 Sacred Harp music is a four-part a cappella music that dates from the 16th through to the 20th centuries and is characterised by haunting harmonies, traditional modes, raucous songs, serene hymns, fast fugues, and high-energy anthems. The notation is written in shapes that correspond to degrees of the scale, making it easy to sight-sing, even for those with little musical experience. Newcomers and beginners are very welcome. COBH CONFRATERNITY BAND OUTDOOR PERFORMANCE n Venue & Time: Band Stand, Kennedy Park, Cobh | 6pm - 7pm Contact: [email protected] or 021 463 0390 Founded in 1967, Cobh Confraternity Band is one of the busiest brass and reed groups in the south of Ireland, making around 35 public appearances annually. The talk will consider some of the specific events that will or may form part of the commemorative programme in Cork city and county to mark the centenary of the 1916 Easter Rising, together with some observations of a more general nature on the local and national commemoration programmes.
