Positions Current 1999- Senior Researcher, Meertens Instituut / KNAW. I served as head of the linguistics department 1999-2002, and 2007-2008, and since 2012 as leader of the theme group Language, Culture and Cognition

2007– Professor of Phonological Microvariation, Leiden University. Until 2012 this was a position by special appointment, founded by the Leiden University Foundation; afterwards it became an ordinary (unpaid) position. Between 2008-2014 I served as head of the Research Master programme.

Previous 2013–2014 Fellow, Dutch National Library & NIAS. This was a special fellowship to explore the possibilities of digital humanities research.
