District Attorney Charges North County Man in Loan Modification Fraud Vista Resident Took Homeowners’ Money, Didn’t Modify Loans San Diego County District Attorney Bonnie M. Dumanis announced felony charges today against Vista Resident Mark Allen White, Jr., 37, who fraudulently promised homeowners he could secure loan modifications or refund their money. White is charged with 11 counts including burglary and grand theft, forgery and identity theft. Eight separate victims complained to the District Attorney’s Office that White took their money, but failed to obtain the promised loan modifications and failed to return the victims’ money. If convicted of all charges, White faces up to 11 years and four months in local prison. “Loan modification scammers continue to take advantage of homeowners in distress and our office is continuing to hold them accountable,” DA Dumanis said. “Our office has prosecuted more than 90 defendants for real estate related crimes over the last three years.” White was arrested on January 29 and arraigned on January 30 in San Diego Superior Court before the Honorable David M. Szumowski. He pleaded not guilty. A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for February 13. The case is being prosecuted by the District Attorney’s Economic Crimes Division.
