Team Reports Matilda - Player of the Week Leila (on the right) Encouragement award

White wolves took on the Red Dragons on Saturday and faced a very determined and focused team. The wolves, however, played with matched enthusiasm and were able to convert 3 goals to 0. The game was won in defence with Michelle and Cory showing the way. In addition special mention of Zali who was player of the match. Zali was unstoppable and clinical in her play and assisted the defence in bringing the ball out and creating attack. Also Rhys with some excellent lead up work and spectacular goals and Lucy applying excellent pressure in the oppositions D. Lucy created at least 5 short corners through her unrelenting play. Amelia and Leah did a great job on the wing halves and Leah almost scored a goal while she was temporarily asked to fill in at centre forward. Luca played and persisted even though he was feeling a bit ill. Oscar scored his first goal for the season, well done Oscar. It was good to see that the team worked together backing each other and did not give up right though the 60 minutes—even in the hot weather. EJ didn’t have a lot of work due to the excellent play from the backs but he did a great job when he was called on. Sophie helped out and did a great job with Crispin who also worked hard in the heat out on the wing. As we head now into the final weeks Kate continues to be a great super sub and really helped the team to the great result on the weekend. The Wolves are working hard on their team game and their individual games as we head into the finals. Great hockey, great game. Well done Wolves. Paul

U16 Maroon Madness played the Blue Bombers and won 4-1. All players had a great game, and goals were scored for maroon by Steve Clements, George Norman and Ved Reshamwala (2). Player of the week: Ved Reshamwala Encouragement award: Cameron West

Reps - Women’s Masters Last week-end two teams of Masters Women's headed to Bundaberg to compete in the Women’s Masters State Championships all vying for a position in the Qld teams, of which there are several age groups. Not that that is all they went for, there was also a lot of fun had. Especially in the Redlands team, although if you listened up you could hear most of the other teams groaning on their previous evenings endeavours. Team 1—played 5 games in total, lost the first 2, won the second 2 and for the finals lost to Rockhampton 1, which placed them in 6th place for Division 1. Goal scorers for the week-end were Jo Symes—2; Mel Woosnam— 2 (both off strokes); Cathy Dickmont—1; Robyn Larcombe—1; Donne Swartz—1; Blossom D’Silva—1. The awards (chosen by the players) were “Players Player” - Tammy Drews; “Most Valuable Player” - Mel Woosnam; and the most memorable moment was Jo Symes’ second goal against Brisbane 3, with only moments to spare before the game ended and wold have been decided by a shoot out. (which means we would have been late for dinner, priorities!!). Team 2—also played 5 games, lost their first 2, drew their 3rd, won the 4th and for the finals drew with Brisbane 6, placing them equal 5th place in Division 5. Goal Scorers for this team were Deeane McCarthy, Tania Williams, Meegan Thomas, Nicole Bahr and Donna Fantuzzi (or is that funtuzzi?) all with 1 goal each. Congratulations to all players who have been selected to represent Queensland at the Australian Women's Masters Championships being held in Hobart from 7th - 15th October 2016, especially our own - Donne Swartz (shadow for the over 35s); Petra West (Over 40s); Rebecca O’Neill aka Posh and Jo Symes (Over 45s); Cathy Dichmont (Over 50s). Also congratulations to Joanne Park and Bernadette Systa who both achieved their level 0 junior tech bench qualification at the masters tournament this weekend, both of these ladies also played for Ipswich. Thank you Chelsey and Kerri for rubbing out the ladies tired and sore muscles, I am sure they appreciate having you come along and also thankyou to Mel and Stacey for coaching the teams and Sue for managing Team 2, I managed Team 1. …….. Alice.
