Maroon’s , pre game preparations

Senior Men's With only two home & away rounds left timely to provide an update on the Senior Men’s Competition for the year. The first thing to mention is how well our younger players have adapted to playing alongside and against their older counterparts some of whom could be confused as being their grandfathers. They certainly have matched it skill wise (in fact too well some would say) and have the speed and pace that leaves many of us breathless. It’s still good though to see though the Baby Boomers getting up a canter and revisiting yesteryear just one more time. What the oldies lack in speed they more than make up for in experience.

And this leads me to the second point being the longevity of these well-seasoned veterans, each week presents a new set of challenges to them. I mean just to get those aches and pains under control through the liberal application of Nurofen and the numerous heat and gel rubs coupled with hideous amounts of strapping and pain killers

all followed by the weekly appointment with the physio….pheew tired just talking about it.

So the season so far team by team… Gold, last year’s Premiers have been the team to beat all season or so we thought. Up until Round 13 they were doing it beautifully having not lost a game. However the last two rounds have not been kind losing both games. Are the cracks beginning to appear, can they arrest their form slide against “All on Red” this weekend coming, this will be a match to watch. They have the players to go back to back but need to pull it all back together in time. All on Red…considered to have a great blend of youth and experience with good goal scoring capacity these boys when on their game are genuine contenders for the title. The big question for Red is simply a question of how they turn up on the day and play. Rest assured they are tipped to be there again come finals (I mean everyone’s a winner) but they need to get the points against Gold this weekend to strengthen second place. Of interest Red have not beaten Gold this season…interesting.

White Knights are charging, two consecutive wins against Gold and Red make this team one to not cross of your list just yet. To the uneducated a first glance sees a lot of golden oldies who can’t run but don’t be fooled, where speed is lacking skill and experience is plenty. Great to see Paul back on deck and with younger legs in their midfield and attack they are showing why they have a chance. Is there such thing as a dark white horse because these lads are pushing hard for the double chance? Blue Bloods, in summary a year of more downs than ups full of inconsistency…apart from round 1 their season has seen many draws and a crippling inability to scoring goals being their Achilles heel. With two wins in their last three outings and 50% of their YTD goals coming in that period strangely they can still secure a double chance if results go their way but they must win their last two games. Whilst every team will play week one finals the final make up is far from sorted out and with that in mind it makes for a great final two rounds to see who goes where.

Out and About Last Thursday evening a group of RHA members joined in with members from the cricket club and the flyers to participate in a First Aid course run by AWFA. At the end of the course the three clubs will receive a defibrillator that everyone will have access to. The course concludes this Thursday evening.
